Make You Move (Janet in Todd Lynn)

What’s good, Indies?

Let me introduce myself.. I’m Marcus and I’ve been sent here to make you move.

Well, actually this is my first post aside from my own blog, Smoke & Mirrors, (where I discuss high fashion, personal style, and hip-hop) and I thought it’d be fitting for you to get a sense of my voice and tastes.

Janet Jackson\’s \”Make Me\”

Janet is one of the most underrated performers nowadays. She may be cougar status, but, the woman can still break things down. She practically invented the dance break for all it’s worth! Take a peek at Miss Jackson’s new video for single “Make Me” (link above) where she’s decked out in head-to-toe Todd Lynn (S/S 2010). The viking shoulder pads are totally insane. Just one question: What is that inflatable buoy doing on the sister ship from Scream?

Story by Marcus Holmlund

Somewhere in between Oliver Twist and 70’s rock star, I’ve honed a look that’s often shocking to the onlooker. I refuse to be confined within the lines of menswear. To make sense of it all, look to those I’m influenced by: there’s Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler, Bowie, Janet and Michael, Prince, Amadeus, Jesus, pimps, beggars and stoners – confusing enough? All androgynous in their own right, they’ve inspired my every facet...I feel like my second mother was Miss Janet [Jackson]. I have her to thank for my appreciation of all things hip-hop and R&B. I’ve been deemed the 'little white boy that could' due to the fact. I’m currently studying Design and Management (with a concentration in fashion and pop culture) at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City and have interned for stylist Mel Ottenberg, Elle and V magazines, and PR firm Black Frame. My life goal is to become the next great fashion/music editor.
