Marc Jacobs is one of America’s most famous and adored fashion designers, and he’s set to add to his fan base. Jacobs will become the first in the “couture” end of the fashion industry to create a clothing line for larger sizes. Jacobs says he thinks women who wear larger sizes should have as much of a choice in their clothing as thinner women.

The president of Marc Jacobs, Robert Duffy, said on Twitter that the company is “in talks” with partners about making larger sizes. He also says that he hates the term “plus sizes” and is open to suggestions for a replacement term.

While Jacobs and other top ten fashion designers may have the altruistic motive of giving larger women more choices in great clothing, there is also the fact that millions of larger size women would love to buy more designer clothing if they could find it in their sizes.
