Lana Del Rey, whoever she is, won’t be going away anytime soon…ish. Because there’s now a bag named after her, thanks to Mulberry and its $1,000 “Del Rey.”

Mulberry Names Newest Bag After Lana Del Rey, Baglash Ensues

Creative director Emma Hill was apparently taken with the singer — that is what we’re going with, right? — the singer’s “soulful, melancholy voice” saying, “I love Lana’s nostalgic references to bygone glamour and the fact that her look is retrospective, yet so modern. This inspired us to create a bag that was timeless, refined, and elegant.”

For her part, Del Rey is quite happy getting bagged up:  ”‘I love the design, it’s a perfect mix between old school Hollywood and contemporary style. It’s an honour that such a classic and prestigious brand would name a bag after me.” Del Rey, while praising the spring 2012 collection, also happened to mention something about Mulberry not jumping on the “trend bandwagon.”

Anyway, Mulberry’s bag named after a viral internet sensation with two singles and an album released a month ago will make its debut in May, by which time the trend bandwagon may have already rolled over Lana Del Rey.

I was center square from 1969 to 1978, during which I perfected the art of the zing as well as a crippling cocaine addiction. Bea Arthur was responsible for both. @LesFabian lester at fashionindie.com
