Lara Stone on Her Love for Dogs, Carine Roitfeld and Particularly Carine Roitfeld’s Shoes

Edited by

Clad in a clingy Calvin Klein, Lara Stone looked every inch the supermodel as I sat down — flustered and fresh off the subway — to interview her and photographer Alex Prager about their collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. During our little chat in the swanky Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge, I tried to explain the concept of a spirit animal — I muttered something about Native American mythology as the concept isn’t particularly clear to me either — but I feared that it would be lost somewhere in translation. After a few more explanations, we finally got around to the heart of the question – ”Who is your celebrity spirit animal?” As soon as she said the name, I realized the answer was fairly clear.

INTERVIEW: Creative Director Stefan Campbell Makes Magic at Michael Bastian

Edited by

At 11 A.M. today, Exit Art was bustling with t-shirt-flannel-n-jeans guys with ladders, gold paint, real leaved branches and tree trunks sitting apart, and two Swarovski crystal chandeliers hanging from a rolling rack. This team of set builders were being kindly and meticulously directed by Stefan Campbell, the man responsible for translating Michael Bastian‘s collection into a three dimensional space that garners an emotional reaction from the audience before the clothes hit the runway.  Earlier this week, he removed the front row so Chadwick Bell could have a 14 foot-wide glowing fuchsia runway instead of seven. Today, he’ll be scenting Michael Bastian’s show with Aedes. After speaking with Stefan today, we can confirm that he knows the tricks to making a runway show magical. See Stefan Campbell’s secret tips and advice at the end of the interview. And we’ll go see the show now.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Moncler Grenoble Fall/Winter 2012

Edited by

Let it be known that Moncler Grenoble completely shut it down at its Fall/Winter 2012-13 presentation Sunday night. Show attendees walked down the sloping hill to Wollman Rink in Central Park where hot rum ciders and roasted chestnuts awaited us before the show began. The rink, surround by trees set aglow by brilliantly colored lights, soon filled with the sights of figure skaters and sounds of The Harlem Boys Choir belting out Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York, all dressed in Moncler. The numbers that followed were truly spectacular, and you can watch them all right here.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Joy Cioci Autumn/Winter 2012

Edited by

We’ve already established orange is burning for Fall 2012, and Joy Cioci is right on trend for the season. Along two leafy backdrops, models stood on white platforms wearing 20 looks from the designer, and it’s easy to see that Cioci knows how young women want to dress. In both the tailored and more flowing pieces, the mood was all about the power of femininity: ruffles and pleats to subtly accentuate curves in all the right places, cutouts and sheer panels perfectly placed around erogenous zones. Practical yet incredibly gorgeous fur pieces reinforced her luxurious yet wearable line mentality.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Tommy Hilfiger AW12

Edited by

Looking around the scene at Tommy Hilfiger’s fall 2012 runway show I thought I had mistakenly wandered into an English garden. Vines of ivy twisted their way along brick columns and trees fully in bloom sat in their own separate little fields. If not for the giant catwalk winding around those fields, I would’ve expected a tea party to commence at any second. From this setting I also expected very light, dainty, ladylike fare – but from the first look it was apparent that the house that Tommy built was not serving tea. A thread of military dressing ran through the collection, centered heavily on coats in shearling, bonded leather and Melton wool. Dresses in silk suggested a ladylike quality, but this lady’s ready to face the ravages of fall and stare it down till the spring.
