Haute Couture, ever wondered what all the fuss is about and what Haute Couture is anyway??

Haute Couture, the most prestigious made-to-measure art tailoring was born in Paris in 1858, as Charles Frederic Worth, an Englishman, opened his couture house and started the 'tailor-made Couture' phenomenon. Couture art is made with exquisite high-quality garments & materials, a very high level of hand-made artistic excellence, with the outmost perfection and attention to details.

Haute couture is a ‘protected name’ that can be used only by firms that meet certain well-defined standards.
In France, the term Haute Couture is protected by law and defined by the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris. Their rules state that only “those companies mentioned on the list drawn up each year by a commission domiciled at the Ministry for Industry are entitled to avail themselves of the label Haute Couture”. The criteria for Haute Couture was established in 1945 and updated in 1992.

To attain a 'couture' label, the fashion house must meet the definite criteria; firstly the designer must present perfectly fitted & individually inspired custom-made designs for private clients. The designer must also present two collections a year consisting of at least thirty-five outfits during Paris haute Couture week in January & July.

All members of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture must follow these rules:

* Design made-to-order creations for private clients, with one or more fittings.
* Have a workshop (atelier) in Paris that employs at least fifteen people full-time.
* Each season (twice a year), present a collection to the Paris press, comprising at least thirty-five runs/exits with outfits for both daytime wear and evening wear.

I love Paris Haute Couture, it is the most exciting fashion week..

Our reports & impressions are soon to come…
