5 Airport Gems for the Chic Traveler

Nov 15, 2011 - by Danika Daly

Sleeping in a rigid terminal seat, shopping over-priced duty free perfume and spending $15 on some stale excuse for a salad - if you've ever been stuck in the airport before, this is probably how your day played-out. On the contrary, we've found 5 fabulous airports that are considered gems rather than dives. These are the airports with such amazing amenities, you might just want your flight delayed a tad bit longer.

Heathrow Airport, London Getting stuck in Heathrow is a shopper's dream. The T3 terminal shopping center stands up to central London with stores like Mulberry, Zara, Reiss, Dior, Hermes and Harrods. Once you're done spending all your money, the art museum is a free cultural fix in Terminal 5. Need a nap after all that? Check into the Yotel in Terminal 4 starting at £25 for four hours.

Munich Airport, Germany Beer gardens, gambling and spas. Need I say more?

John F. Kennedy Airport, New York JetBlue's T5 is the hub of more than 40 restaurants and shops. If you're lucky you might catch a Live from T5 concert - the last show featured Robyn.

Changi International, Singapore There is so much to say about this airport. If you're jet lagged, Changi International was voted the best airport for sleeping. Transit hotels are located in Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and you can catch a nap starting at $30. Bring your swimsuit in case you'd rather relax by the pool or jacuzzi. If staying indoors is more your speed, there are two movie theatres showing new releases and one theatre showing free classics. If you have at least five hours to spare before your next flight, you can take a free two-hour tour of Singapore.

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport There is not too much that is spectacular about this airport, but a one-hour massage for $5 sounds like a gem to me.
