5 Ways to Liven-Up Dead Winter Tresses

Nov 01, 2011 - by Danika Daly

Halloween may have put you in a ghastly mood, but there is no reason for you to cling onto the horrifying holiday with dead hair. The winter months can be harsh on our tender tresses, causing them to be dry and brittle. These five tips will lead you to a healthier mane.

Do not hold onto your split ends just because your hair looks longer - it's not flattering. Your hair will look noticeably healthier and voluminous with just a few snips of those straggly ends.

Keep your hair hydrated with deep conditioners or hair masks throughout the colder months. It will make your hair look soft and shiny, even when the weather is dry and gloomy.

Don't dry out your hair even more with a blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron. Try air drying your hair instead. If you absolutely must use heated products, be sure to use a heat-protectant spray.

Taking a note from the last tip, a great way to air dry and to get gorgeous waves is to make one or two braids. Once it's dry, unbraid for beachy waves that won't frizz in the cold air.

Take care in combing or brushing your hair. Do not overbrush or brush straight from the roots if your hair is tangled. This damages your hair. Instead, brush starting with the ends and work your way up. Comb through with a wide-tooth comb while conditioner is in your hair, or use a detangler spray.
