Britain Creates Commemorates the London Olympics with Designer-Artist Collaborations
Jun 27, 2012 - by Lester Brathwaite
It's really a great year to be British. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The 2012 London Olympics. Kate Middleton generally shutting it down everywhere. Add to that Britain Creates, a briliant collaboration between some of the country's top fashion designers and visual artists.
An initiative backed by the British Fashion Council and Harper's Bazzar's BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation to celebrate the 2012 London Olympics, Britain Creates 2012: Fashion & Art Collusion paired nine designers and nine artists to create nine individual one-off pieces.
The works will first go on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum from July 6-29 before moving to Selfridges, where they will serve as the centerpiece for the department store's Olympic window display in August.
Proceeds from a special gala event, as well as a charity auction for two of the pieces hosted by Selfridges, will raise money to further support and encourage collaboration between fashion and the arts. [Guardian]
But for now, strap on your artsy-fartsy glasses and take a stroll through the FashionIndie Museum to witness for yourself the innovative and inspiring collaborations from Britain Creates 2012:
