Designers Drawing on a Flowering Spring

Sep 10, 2011 - by Jessica Lapidos

I smell a trend that's coming up daisies. Illustrated florals have gone sketchy and have hit several runways before day three. Luca Luca, Cynthia Rowley, Doo.Ri and Duckie Brown have turned up the flower power for boys and girls to shower over Spring 2012.

In what feels like an ode to Alexander McQueen's final word, Cynthia Rowley uses terrestrial plant life to create a digital collage of flowers.

Luca Luca keeps it peachy, a delicately pale floral arrangement. Lined up to spiral about the leg, these daisies evoke an innocent school doodling - a young spring. This print was a mainstay throughout the collection.

Doo.Ri's daisies are darker, the greens more acidic. Pulled in by dramatic drapes, it does not occupy the whole shirt. And it was the only instance of this print in the whole collection.

Duckie Brown's Steven Cox put his men in full bloom. This trend crosses gender grounds - birds, bees and trees alike are taking to the drawn flower.

*Little known flower fact: Roses are a male aphrodisiac. So when he's giving you a dozen, it's because they turn him on.
