Dolce & Gabbana Seduces Us With Secret Eyes Mascara

Jul 07, 2011 - by Samantha Lim

We silently (and fashionably) squealed in our seats when a signature shiny black and gold Dolce & Gabbana bag floated its way into the FashionIndie loft. We knew we were expecting the brand's new Secret Eyes mascara, but we were not should have been expecting its over the top, ultra exquisite packaging: a black cylinder glass vase of eight indigo calla lilies (full of water at that) wrapped in black tulle and a grosgrain ribbon was packed next to a gold Dolce & Gabbana engraved black lacquered box.  The box was sealed by magnets and opened to reveal a velvet cushion lined package, on par with those made for fine jewelry or expensive pens.  Nested inside, a gleaming gold tube of Secret Eyes mascara.

Here she is in all her glory! Dolce & Gabbana have definitely upped the ante when it comes to packaging beauty products.  The box has successfully been perched on my desk since it arrived earlier this week, and I do not plan on moving it. Lester was the first in the office to try it out, and may I say, his man lashes were as long and luscious as a young Liz Taylor, rest her soul.  Click through for a photo...

Ok, ok so this is obviously not a photo of Lester, but the flirty model does resonate the Secret Eyes alter ego we channeled when testing the mascara.  We tried to conjure up the way the product made us feel, but ended up turning to legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath for her expert opinion,

"Secret Eyes is simply brilliant.  The brush is designed in such a way that even the tricky corner lashes are coated using one easy stroke and, at the same time, the texture is so buildable that when I layer or re-apply, it's always clean and effortless, virtually smudge proof."

All in all, an amazing beauty product:  performing mascara, beautiful packaging, and a metaphorical mission that will amp up your femme fatale.  We leave you with a quote from Stefano and Domenico themselves

"True seduction begins with a woman's eyes. When a woman glances up through a soft, silky veil of lashes, she's performing the most intimate act in the art of flirtation -- it's the utmost form of feminine conquest."
