Last Wednesday, Lester, Emily and I made our way to the interactive classroom of Scratch DJ Academy in Cooper Square to learn ourselves some new musical skills. Co-founded by the late Jam Master Jay of Run D.M.C., Scratch DJ Academy is the educational sector of the three part Scratch Music Group. It is the world's first DJ and music production school with academies worldwide, including New York, Los Angeles and Miami in the States.

When we arrived, we were greeted with cocktails and turntables as our personal instructor Ellison, aka Dr. Unos & Dubs, began to teach us the basic DJ scratches. We learned short, medium and long scratches and battled each other to the death in a scratch match. Turns out we're all winners because we're all still alive. But in all seriousness, if you want to hone your skills and really learn the art of DJing, Scratch Academy is definitely for you.
