Google Glasses and Valentino on the Diane Von Furstenberg Runway
Sep 11, 2012 - by Samantha Lim
Mr. Valentino, Mr. De la Renta, and Carrie Bradshaw supported our CFDA President in the front row while she showed off candy colored, flowing clothes inspired by la dolce vita in Rome, the gardens of Marrakesh, and the deserts of Jaipur, all accessorized by futuristic eyewear.
Coral, lime green, and violet energized the Spring collection, which was full of drapey jumpsuits, palazzo pants, and flowy caftans. In a confusing accessory twist, models wore "Glass by Google" headpieces that have tiny cameras by the eye, providing a whole new point of view for the runway show. Granted, no one had any idea what the glasses were at first, setting up a lot of interesting theories by the audience. One woman next to me thought it was a new way to wear a headband (we later found out that the glasses also function as a hands-free smartphone and a digital camera). Diane even walked the runway at the end with Google co-founder Sergey Brin, also modeling the futuristic eyewear.
Here are some of our favorite looks
