Hermione, A History
Jul 12, 2011 - by Jessica Lapidos
Our indie crush of the week has totes been the drop dead stunning Emma Watson. For the past decade she's always pleasantly surprised as she morphs in and out of Hermione Granger to become a Lady. But let us not forget the bushy haired, buck toothed bookworm that took her to the stratospheric level she's at today. Today our retrospective reflects on her dorky alter-ego, that ultimately *spoiler* saves the world. We know Harry and Ron wouldn't last 5 minutes without her. And the movies wouldn't have lasted five minutes without her if she had actually dropped out after Goblet of Fire to get "an education".
With that, we take a look back at Hermione's more awkward moments of Harry Potter:
Hermione Granger and the Sorcerer's Stone
Hermione is a sprightly little know-it-all in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Director Christopher Columbus ran the first few scenes of the movie with Hermione in fake buck teeth. Upon learning that the little starlet couldn't speak with them in, they decided her teeth were bucked quite enough for the role.
Hermione Granger and the Chamber of Secrets
In the Chamber of Secrets, we see that Hermione has acquired not just the ability to make Polyjuice Potion, but also some sort of potion to tame the hair. Her curls are more relaxed, as are her views on rule-breaking.
Hermione Granger and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Here in Prisoner of Azkaban, with a new director, Alfanso Cuarón, the students of Hogwarts were allowed out of the cloak-and-tie uniform in their off time. This means we really got to see Hermione struggle through adolescence in a juicy-like zip-up, flared denim, and chunky knit winter hats. Ah, this really turns the time back.
Hermione Granger and the Goblet of Fire
Hermione breaks out her glam side as she busts out of chunky sweaters for the black tie Yule Ball. She's got an internationally famous quidditch player after her heart, and she impresses in pink (though she really should be in blue, and they really could have found a better dress).
Hermione Granger and the Order of the Phoenix
So it's not actually surprising that Hermione becomes quite the little khaki-polo prepster as a 15-year-old in Order of the Phoenix. She's loving her carlyle, and we're loving her increasingly ballsy moves, like her Rita Skeeter payback.
Hermione Granger and the Half Blood Prince

Hermione became kind of a weepy mess in the Half Blood Prince. They all got all messy with their teenage emotions, all making out with one another and whatnot. But I must say, her hair is finally looking mighty fine.
Hermione Granger and the Deathly Hallows
We've arrived at the Deathly Hallows, and I must say Hermione stuns in red at the Weasley-Delacour wedding. But she's got a year of roughing it ahead of her. And now that we've finally seen her muggle home - a neat and orderly place, the transition into chaos of life on the horcrux hunt is even more heartbreaking.
It All Ends Friday.
