Nora Logan's Diamonds are Pure Dead Brilliant

Sep 28, 2012 - by Amanda Gabriele

And there's no blood involved either. When designer Nora Logan designed her signature diamond jewelry collection - that, in fact, has no real diamonds involved - we hadn't seen anything like it before. Inspired by world travels, tattoos and public transportation, Pure Dead Brilliant (PDB for short) Jewelry is one of the most whimsical lines we've seen in quite sometime. Take a look into Nora's world with our one-on-one interview after the jump.

AG: So the diamond collection, how were you inspired to create that line? NL: I started with the ring because I wanted to do a diamond I could wear, which isnt a real diamond. And I wanted to do something big, and I love those [diamond] tattoos you see on people, so I was inspired by those as well. There are so many unethically mined blood diamonds out there, so I wanted to do a collection about that idea.

Thats really cool. You said earlier you're very inspired by transit as well. Does that stem from a love of travel? Designer: I grew up moving. Im from New York originally but my parents moved to London when I was little, then from London to France to Italy and Indonesia. Ive spent my whole life traveling every two years, so it's just part of me and my ethos. I wanted to make pieces that reflect it, whether its the buses, steamboat or Vespas.

The London transit collection is so on point with the Olympics having just passed. Did you take any inspiration from there? No, I mean it was just because I grew up in London and I love and miss London. And I love buses there, so thats where that came from.

Thats amazing. How long have you been designing? Two years

And is this something youve always wanted to do or did you fall into it? I sort of fell into it. A lot of people say that, but I really did. I worked for a designer in London and then for another designer in Indonesia. I started doing my own stuff on the side, and I fell in love with it. I had so many ideas and so much creativity, and I think part of it came from living in Bali, a new place. And the rest is sort of history. I love designing, so I think it's great I stumbled upon what I wanted to do by accident.

Are there any specific trends youre seeing for Spring 2013? Im seeing a lot of color, people are using a lot of enamel in jewelry. I actually have one piece that hasn't come out yet, but I designed it in a bunch of different colors. And its funny because I did it a few months ago because Im always doing new styles just because I have so many ideas.
