Hopefully everyone on the East Coast is huddled in their apartments because Frankenstorm is about to hit. Otherwise known as Hurricane Sandy, Women's Wear Daily has outlined the emergency procedures that New York City retailers are going through to prepare for the craziest storm the East Coast has experienced in years.
Last evening, the MTA and bus routes were shut down along with most flights flying to and from the East Coast. Hurricane Sandy, otherwise known as the Frankenstorm, is about to hit New York City and here's how retailers like Bergdorf Goodman and Target prepare for emergencies such as these.
Most businesses were evacuated on Sunday, but most smart shoppers were more interested in last-minute storm supplies. Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Aéropostale were all seen boarding up their windows in preparation, where retailers like Walmart kept tabs on the advancement of the storm to meet the needs of their customers while keeping the safety of their employees first priority.
Many retailers have emergency hotlines set up to keep employees informed on store closings and openings and how to get help. After the storm has hit, stores like Target have a recovery plan set in motion. This is where they make sure that they supply essentials to the stores that are in the path of the storm and make sure the perishable items are replenished quickly after in the case of power loss.
