River Island is Hopping the Pond Towards U.S. Expansion

Aug 06, 2012 - by Emily Draznik

Following the announcement of songstress Rihanna's collaboration line, British fast fashion retailer River Island is reported to have their eyes set the American market.

Following in the footsteps other high street retailers, River Island is rumored to be opening a New York store as early as next year. With the success of the Topshop  American expansion that began in 2009, River Island is looking to be the next fast fashion outlet in Manhattan. With the announcement of their Spring 2013 collaboration with singer Rihanna, the British brand has increasingly been in the consciousness of American consumers. And while the retailer already has an international presence in Singapore, Russia, and the Middle-East, the American market is famous for being a tough egg to crack. While other Manhattan retailers like Daffy's close all of their Manhattan locations, it's reassuring to see a little hope on the horizon of what is hopefully no longer the doomed retail/recession market. Therefore this is one British invasion that we're welcoming with open arms.
