Starbucks Picks Rodarte For Their First Fashion Collaboration
Oct 11, 2012 - by Emily Draznik
Mass coffee retailer Starbucks has collaborated with a lot of businesses in the past, but never with the industry that houses some of its most supportive customers. The fashion industry. Starbucks and designer sister duo Rodarte have collaborated for a holiday line that will accessorize your caramel macchiato perfectly.
We're pretty sure that the Starbucks chain almost entirely keeps the fashion industry going. Especially during fashion week, fashion's biggest names would never be seen carrying an off brand espresso. Therefore this holiday season the two industries have finally decided to pair up. For their first collaboration with a fashion brand, Starbucks and Rodarte are releasing limited edition items to be sold at the designer coffee chain.
Laura and Kate Mulleavy are the pair of designers behind the American fashion label Rodarte. For their first collaboration with Starbucks, they have designed limited edition gift cards, coffee mugs, tote bags, and cup sleeves in a pixelated green print.
Samie Barr, VP of brand management at Starbucks hopes that Rodarte will put them, "on the map as a true inspirational gifting destination."
As you can imagine, many are quite surprised that the mass-market coffee house would tap into the indie fashion label for their first fashion collaboration. To the benefit of the Rodarte sisters, Starbucks is exposing their name to millions of customers on literally every street corner.
The sisters struggled with designing in the smaller gift arena, but the collaboration was a no-brainer because they are daily coffee drinkers. So considering we've never bought anything from Starbucks except for a frappuccino, this collaboration may have fashion lovers shopping at Starbucks more regularly. Especially if they see it every morning on their way to get their morning buzz.
