Apr 03, 2012 - by Zosia Baroody
Are you looking for a dream internship but have no idea where to start or how to land it? No worries, you are not alone. Here are some inside tips on securing the perfect job.
WATCH WHAT YOU POST ONLINE: If you apply to work for anyone in fashion media, expect to be searched on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram... and anything else that pops up on Google. Keep things appropriate. Ask yourself would I want this particular future employer to see this before you post. NOTE: This does not mean be boring, stale, or too safe. If you're applying for a fashion internship -- be stylish! Show off your personality, show off your style, and make your voice known. The bolder and more confident you are, the more we will see that you have the intelligence to learn and charisma to make an impact during your time with us.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT: We want to know whom were going to hire. Cover letters and résumés are important too, but its the more personal pages like Tumblr that give us a taste of your true colors. In fact, for some jobs (like web editors fashion reporters) having an online profile is much more important than the prior. Writing a fashion blog or consistently posting about fashion-related things on Twitter shows us your drive. Plus it shows us that you already know what youre doing. You dont need to have a huge audience, but you do need to have a refined image that defines your specific style and tastes.
This is a prime example of bad internet etiquette.
