Looks like we have our own real-life Ocean's 11 on our hands. Only it's minus the casino and George Clooney. On Wednesday night, three masked men in high-visibility track-suits stole £500,000 or $810,000 worth of watches from Selfridges' Manchester Exchange in less than 80 seconds.
It's not everyday that you hear about a high volume jewelry heist. Well on Wednesday night at 7:20, three highly organized thieves made away with £500,000 worth of designer watches from Selfridges' Manchester Exchange.
The burglary happened while the store was open during a busy transaction night and was done in under 80 second. The burglars stole approximately 100 high-end time pieces from brands such as Audemars Piguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Hublot, and Cartier.
They made their way off in a parked Mercedes-Benz which was manned by a fourth member of their gang and later on they found the getaway car abandoned. Constable Adam Cronshaw made the statement that the robbery, "was clearly well planned and executed. These men were in and out in less than 80 seconds and were very particular about the watches they selected.
The identities of the perpetrators have yet to surface as police continue to investigate the crime. So if you're one to shop on the black market and happen to see a Cartier watch on sale for a severely discounted price, you're most likely purchasing stolen merchandise from this heist. And no, that doesn't make you more of a bad*ss.
