Eight years after being arrested for stealing merchandise from high end retailer Bergdorf Goodman, 36-year old Erica Wang was arrested for stealing $52,000 worth of Ralph Lauren merchandise over the course of six months.
36-year old Erica Wang was arrested for stealing after finding $5,944.25 worth of merchandise that she bagged up and hid in a storage room. Later on, Wang admitted that she stole an additional $45,000 worth of merchandise since she started working on the accessories floor at the Ralph Lauren flagship store in January.
The shoplifter was once engaged to the famous chef Todd English, who is behind The Plaza Hotel Food Hall and other successful eateries. In 2009, he called her on her wedding day and said he couldn't marry her. The chef is reportedly not surprised of Wang's latest actions.
A former Wang business associate said Wang, "always seemed very charming, but these series of legal events demonstrates an underside to that charm. Obviously, she has some issues.
Whether the $46,000 worth of stolen Ralph Lauren merchandise still exists is still up in the air. Ultimately, it appears as if seemingly charming women like Miss Wang often have a dark underside that can lead them to steal 50 grand worth of designer crap.
