Sonia Rykiel Wove a Rainbow of Pattern & Texture for Fall 2011
Mar 07, 2011 - by Amanda Gabriele
There's something magical about that initial cool day off fall when it's time to wear a new sweater. Whether the first day of school or bundling up on a sunny Saturday for the outdoor flee market, the excitement of taking a new fall outfit on its maiden voyage still puts butterflies in my stomach. Sonia Rykiel understands, and the vision for her Fall 2011 collection shown during Paris Fashion Week came through in Fair Isle knits, colorful plaids and bright, luscious furs. Sweater dresses were modernized with sheer sleeves, and fitted cigarette pants had panels of plaid fabric down the sides. Evening wear was offbeat yet chic - dresses of all lengths included metallic stripes, and deep cutouts in the front and sides required one of the fabulously electric fox stoles for warmth. Polar opposite footwear spiced-up action below the ankles, including creepers and pointy toe patent leather pumps. Though eccentric in color and composition, I would be delighted to wear pieces from this collection on my first fall adventure.
