The Daily Back Row: Better Late Than Never

An insider look from the outside. Issue 5: "OhshitisthatKanye?!"

Once Fashion Week really gets going one tends to hit ones stride. The cycle of shows, work and partying finally sync up and it becomes as easy as breathing. Or sleeping, which there is very little of. Case in point, yesterday began with Bibhu Mohapatra at Lincoln Center.

Theres no better crowd deterrent than a 9 a.m. show. Everyones still openly hungover and as were in the home stretch, the ability to roll out of bed and into a heel wavers. The spirit may be willing but the body needs some goddamn beauty rest.

But the real troopers showed up and all in all it was a great way to start the day. Mohapatras was a lovely, beautifully-tailored collection and the architectural chartreuse dress that shouldve closed the show has been one of the favorite looks Ive seen.

I went back to my beloved Mandarin Oriental to work and sadly had to miss out on Elizabeth & James  and reportedly Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at 1:30, but when duty calls you gotta answer. Or get fired. I did make it, however, to the Gant by Michael Bastian presentation at Industria Superstudios where there were rum cocktails a-flowin.

3:30 being as good as any a time to tie one on, I buzzed about the room buzzed, taking in the preppy but tribal collection. Models stood on pedestals modeling the looks but, like Libertine before it, they were having fun and dancing leading me to think that maybe they had dipped into the rum punchbowl beforehand.

On my way up to the Regien presentation at the Sanctuary Hotel rooftop, I got snapped by The Cut s special NYFW shuttle service and got some free Piperlime bracelets I shared with the FI kids. Jetting back downtown, I accidentally got off a stop too early and had to hoof it on over to Milk Studios for the Louise Goldin show.

Any fears that I might have been late were automatically assuaged as I found still-empty seats and people still having a kiki with each other. The show was scheduled for 6:45 which clearly meant it would start at 7:15. Yet there was 7:15 and the lights were still on and seats were still empty from people still having a kiki.

Then at 7:21, Hurricane Kimye rolled in, out of seemingly nowhere. What the hell were Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, the most buzzed-about alleged pairing in the pop culture zeitgeist, doing at a relatively unknown designers first show in some two years?

I, and pretty much everyone, shared my seating neighbors reaction: OhshitisthatKanye?!

I met up with A manda and Intern Emily to finish the night off at Vivienne Tam s after party for her collaboration with fine jeweler TSL, at new eatery, Hakkasan. Swanky would be a great way describe it. There, we scarfed down the delicious dumplings and enjoyed the freely flowing champagne.

Perhaps we enjoyed ourselves a bit too much since midnight struck and we were politely asked to leave.
