The New, The Cut
Aug 12, 2012 - by Samantha Lim
Launching tomorrow morning, strategically the same day as the Fall Fashion Issue of New York Magazine, is a fancy new version of TheCut.com.
A 12 month work in progress, the 12 million readers of New York Magazine's online publication are about to get a whole new dose of fashion content. New York editor in chief Adam Moss told us that their "intent is to have the strong visual impact of a September glossy with the immediacy of the internet. The new site will have the best in class photo experience, presenting images that rival print".
Getting an early walk through of the development site, we saw examples of said visuals, that also had incredible zoom functionality. You could see massive, incredibly clear detail to the point of whether a runway model had shaved her legs! The site also boasts new features such as runway report cards that make analyzing a runway show simple, beauty Q&A's where they test products on real women, and a massive vintage photo archive of iconic celebrity style.
With fashion being the largest advertising category in the 12 year old New York Magazine empire, it comes as no surprise that so much has been invested in developing the new TheCut.com. We're excited to keep up with their 40 pieces of daily content, including this week's cover feature posing the question "Should Kim Kardashian be on the cover of a fashion magazine?". Enjoy, explore, and let us know what you think of the new fashion publication.
