Theophilus London Raps for Fashion Journalists, Not Models

Aug 22, 2011 - by Jessica Lapidos

Wise man, Theophilus London is, as we'll be the ones writing about him. This Brooklyn born rapper has bound onto the scene wearing nothing but fabulous, claiming to "not like fashion" yet is starting his own line, collaborating on Cole Haan shoes, throwing up vids of his shopping adventures, and sitting front row at Lanvin during Paris Fashion Week. He's also starring in a campaign for Carlos Campos, and just played with Solange Knowles at Opening Ceremony's block party. Wake up Mr. West, this boy is carving out his space as hip-hop's new fashion paragon.

His own line LVRS is slated to launch this fall, with 100 limited edition hats already sold. It will be a unisex collection of hats, blazers "and stuff". Should be pretty dope. See what's on his mind as he opens up to Style.com, and the sweet threads he's kicking now.

"I can pull off anything; I have the height and the attitude. The only thing I can't wear is a leotard, but I can wear anything else."

"Before my jeans come in, commercial or high end, I take them to my tailor for the Theophilus London fit. When I'm in Paris, I pick up different style buttons, or royal patches and zippers. I customize my jackets and put new buttons on them, sew a patch, and dye the fabric."

"Actually, I have been on the phone with [Cole Haan] like nine times today. The shoe has three different bluesit's a perfect shoe to wear while you make out with someone in a library."

"I will walk into a store and come out with the best five shirts there."

"I have a new mix tape in the works that should be really fun. It's dedicated to all the sexy women behind the scenes, not models. It's for journalists sitting at their desks and the women behind the camera."

"I got the Kanye treatment at the Lanvin show in France because he couldn't come at the last minute, so I stepped in as the black rapper kid."

"I love to shop; I'm just not like a fashion guru, though."

You just keep shopping and rapping, London. We'll be the judge of that.
