Victoria's Secret Gets Sued Over Bra Patent
Apr 23, 2008 - by Rebecca Alexander
According to TimesOnline, Victoria Secret is being sued over a patented bra design. A single mother of four from New York is accusing Victorias Secret of ripping off her bra.
Katerina Plew says that the lingerie makers real secret is that they stole her patented design for a better bra that can be adjusted to prevent the straps showing. Ms Plew has filed a suit in New York seeking triple damages after discovering a display for the companys Very Sexy 100-Way Strapless Convertible Bra in a shopping mall near her home in Selden, Long Island.
Its my bra, she told The Times yesterday. Its my patent. I am the one who invented it and I had an appointment to meet with them about it. She apparently spend $12,000 on registering her invention as a patent and developing her prototype. She says that she set up an appointment to meet a Victorias Secret executive to whom she had mailed a copy of her patent. The appointment was canceled and she later saw the "VS-Bra" which was exactly her 'design.'
Interestingly, this women devoted her time and money to get a patent on her design and was ripped off. It's great to see someone fight a huge company on what she believes was a blatant act of plagiarism.
