Rock Star Fashion
There are few things I love more than being outdoors in the hot sun listening to a great band. Summer is the time for me to rock my favorite combination: a short dress, slouchy bag, straw fedora and gladiator sandals. Oh, and a tan of course. Here’s some of my favorite celebs that embrace this haute hipster look:
Mary-Kate Olsen. She always looks like she’s on her way backstage to meet the band with her knowing smirk and disheveled mane.

Leigh Lezark, MisShapes DJ. She throws on Chanel and underground labels like Obesity and Speed with ablomb for nights out in NYC. She’s a champion of mixing tunes AND unexpected ensembles.

Kate Moss, the English festival queen! I love her boots, tangled blond hair and appreciation for rock stars.

What’s essential to embodying rock star fashion appeal is your attitude. It’s never ok, and in fact, rather impossible, to look overdone and perfect while jamming in the front row. Smeared eyeliner and faded lipstick can look chic, and isn’t reserved for Courtney Love-era grunge. Bags need to be big enough for a camera with a zoom lens to capture those moments of dancing and drinking with girlfriends, as well as make-up to apply for the after party and a flask…
Personally, I love oversize racer-back tanks in black, grey, navy and white paired with statement jewelry. Some of my favorite brands for oversize tanks and tees are Ameican Apparel (of course), Sophomore and LNA. These look spot on with sawed off jean shorts you wouldn’t mind spilling beer on. I built up a collection of beat up boots – my thrifted cowboys that are tan, beaded, and fringed to perfection; black leather knee high pirate boots with snap details around the top; and brown suede slouchy ankle booties that are just right for the transition to fall. Boots are comfy and make an otherwise casual outfit interesting.
Long chains and huge pendants are a must, as are an amagamation of bangles and charms. Also, I must mention that I just picked up a gold beer bottle opener ring at Urban Outfitters for $8! Hilarious and handy. As for other rocker accessories, headbands and headwraps are beautiful components that allow you to stand out in a crowd. Look at Natasha Khan, aka Bat for Lashes, and how she constructs one-of-a-kind hair pieces.
It doesn’t matter if you’re headed to S X SW or Lollapalooza. Whether you love metal, electronica, hip-hop or reggae. If you’re looking hot while rocking out, the experience will be magical. Just make sure to pick up the perfect concert accessory: the rockstar boyfriend!
