RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Maison Martin Margiela Fall 09

Black is back, and apparently so are cut-outs? Personally, this is a trend that I would like to remain in the 90s, only with hopes to escape the return of midriff-bearing shirts and butterfly clips.

Margiela does have an array of interestingly constructed jackets with a variety of texture (including a vest that appears to be made out of VHS tape?), alongside many veil-like ponchos/shirts/sacks, or whatever you may call them, but he obviously has a vision for the future: backless jackets, legless pants, and transparent shirts. Who knows, maybe this fall ready-to-wear will make its way from Paris to the States in a matter of years, but for now I’d like to think of Margiela’s collection as abstract art, interestingly conceptualized, but even toned down, not exactly wearable.
