RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Vivienne Tam Fall 2009Sticking to her Chinese roots, Vivienne Tam’s Fall 2009 collection took the Chinese calligraphy symbol for “nothingness” and turned it into a whole lot of something! Although terribly crowded, Tam’s Mercer Street boutique was the perfect location for her presentation, giving press, buyers and friends the opportunity to see her immaculate craftsmanship and detailing up close. As a girly-girl herself, Tam’s collection consisted of all feminine pieces. From silk chiffon dresses, to pleated skirts and ponti blouses to quilted coats, Tam’s pieces were covered with the brushstroke calligraphy symbol and seemed more like walking art than ready-to-wear items. I doubt items this intricate will make it, carbon copy, into stores, but if they do, I call dibs on the calligraphy applique coat!
