Runway Rundown: Yohji Yamamoto Fall 2009 emerging fashionYohji Yamamoto showed the fashion world that he was going to combat the credit crunch with his Fall 2009 collection. Focused on the fall/winter essential, the pea coat, Yamamoto launched a collection ready for the recession, because hey, who doesn’t have one of these babies? Keeping clean and asymmetrical cuts in mind, Yamamoto created a variety of tuxedo-like lapels, gauzy overlays, color blocked and ruched coats. Although Yamamoto mixed it up with a long dress and a jumpsuit, the collection would have made a bigger statement if it were simply an array of pea coats.
