A period piece is simply another word for a historical or period film. An actor can then have a period piece role.
Keira Knightley is famous for playing period roles and always gets a reaction from the public/critics/fashion people that she looks gorgeous in these films/looks the part and plays them very well.
As the public has had a similar reaction to Emily Blunt in this film the writer is trying to say that she will now take priority over Keira Knightley and therefore "steal" them away from her in casting sessions.

Please, could someone explain the meaning of the phrase "Emily Blunt looks all but poised to steal all the period piece roles away from Keira Knightley."? I'm italian and, despite my medium knowledge of english and many searches on the dictionaries, I couldn't understand it (for instance, what's the meaning of "stealing something away from someone" and what's a " piece role"?
