We thought dress codes at LES/Meatpacking etc bars were bad, but check out this ultra blue-blooded soiree in the good ol’ UK, as reported by the Star in Toronto.  The Ascot Horse Race is a big affair, with none other than Queen Elizabeth attending.  Apparently, attire in years past has been sub-par, as stricter-than-strict guidelines have been issued for those who want to mingle with the royals in their “Enclave” at this year’s event (seriously, it’s called “The Royal Enclave”; I didn’t make that up).  My most favorite rules below:

1.  Wear underwear

2.  Skirts and dresses must be no more than two inches above the knee

3.  No fake tanning.

4.  Nothing strapless, nothing off-the-shoulder and no halter dresses allowed. All straps need to be at least an inch wide

5.  A hat or substantial fascinator (think SJP’s head sculpture) must be worn by ladies. It must be big enough to cover the crown of the head.  (No word on a height limit though)

6. Morning dress in black or grey only is required for men, including top hat and waistcoat.  No brown shoes.

Story by lins

Lins is kind of like a superhero. Corporate minion by day, free spirit by night, she's set to save the world one fashion misstep at a time (seriously, put down the Crocs and back away). She's previously written for myfashionlife and has an appreciation for unusual fashion juxtapositions (men's cardigans with silk dresses make her swoon). Now, if only she could fly …
