Streep is pretty much a shoe-in for her 17th Academy Award nomination — and that’s no hyperbole — for The Iron Lady, a biopic on English prime minister, Margaret Thatcher.

In the film, Meryl plays Margaret from age 49 to 85, an experience that certainly took its toll both physically — ”We were on a tiny budget, we had very long days and there was no rest. Standing for 12 hours at a time was very painful and all I wanted was a great masseur” — and emotionally –  ”With something like It’s Complicated, I really left it at the set. But this I carried with me more, because it was more personal,” Streep said referring to her 2009 romantic comedy starring noted frequent flier, Alec Baldwin.

Meanwhile, in her Vogue story, Streep puts aside her Lady pains to loll in a few jokes about age. Now 62, Meryl claims that she’s the “oldest person” to land the mag’s cover and reminisces about being offered three roles as witches after turning 40. Taking it to mean that women her age were “grotesque on some level,” she then turned to her husband and said, “It’s over.” That Streep’s done some of her best work in those resulting 22 years proved that not only was it not over, but really just beginning. The spread’s title is probably in reference to the 1949 film of the same name starring Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift. Not only did de Havilland win an Oscar for Best Actress, but Edith Head won one of her eight trophies for costume design. Kenneth Goh takes the mantle of superb silver screen styling set forth by Head, Adrian and others by supplying the story with dramatic looks worthy of any femme fatale.

“It was incredibly glamorous and fantastic. I don’t think I’ll experience something like that again in my lifetime,” said the Oscar-winner of filming the commercial, which debuted Sunday night at www.dior.com.

Adding to the surreal glamour are digital recreations of the late Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe. The three movie legends just happen to be hanging out backstage of the Dior show when Theron storms in, every inch the movie star — giant sunglasses and all — throwing her purse at the first person, place or thing she sees. Then she’s stripped, be-gowned and thrown down the runway to Gossip‘s “Heavy Cross.”

ABC News correspondent Cynthia McFadden discusses the role of Coco with Shirley MacLaine.

Last night marked the world premier of Lifetime’s upcoming presentation, “Coco Chanel,” the story of the troubles and triumphs of an icon in fashion history. Joseph Urban Theatre housed the event, filling hundreds of seats with some of the fashion industry’s most crucial players.

As in any event, the evening kicked off with a social event for guests to eat, drink and be merry. Following the hors-d’oeuvres was an interview with ABC’s own Cynthia McFadden and Academy Award winning actress, Shirley MacLaine. MacLaine humorously commented on her experience playing the infamous cavalier, Coco Chanel, and left the guests in stitches over her farewell: “Goodnight, enjoy the bitch.”

The film itself was a bit of a letdown in comparison to MacLaine’s enchanting description of the role. The audience expected scenes filled with dazzling garments, couture fashion and the industry’s drama. What they got, however, was cliche love scenes in the snow, awful French accents and sappy quotes about determination. Sorry Coco, but I think what we wanted was a little more of your couture fashion and a little less of your relationship passion!

 On a lighter note, Shirley MacLaine performed phenomenally as the wicked fashion witch and stirred constant laughter with her sarcasm and believable arrogance.
