Menswear billowed into womenswear.The androgyny laid not in cutting a man's suit for a woman, but taking those elements that define a man's wardrobe and blowing it out with a feminine angle. Like a tuxedo shirt that melts into draped jersey. Or suit pants that slit upen to reveal another trouser.

Spring was designed in sheer delight. Whether crochet or clear like water, we see through next spring, and so will you.

Let the leg out. While we're still loving the maxi, they're being steered in a sexier route. Thigh high slits make the floor length look thankfully less austere.

OVERSIZED BLAZER: This one by Acne, is long enough to cover a tight skirt. You can ditch the skirt at the office on the way out. FYI, A cardinal rule for work appropriateness – cover your bum. That said…

Olive has consumed me. Which is strange because it’s typically me consuming olives, like three, in a slightly naughty martini. But the pitted extra virgin maker is the hue I’m so drawn to right now.

It’s that brown with just a droplet of green – and not a drop more or you’re going too jungle. Why so perfect? Its chameleon ability to match with black, gray and brown, and nearly every other color you desire. Like that cool Fendi blue in the previous post.

Based on the classic Western shirt, these styles are named after Dynasty characters: Alexis, Sammy Jo and Krystle. I love the idea of creating a collection like this. Not to get all hippie and shit, but it sounds like a splendid, one-love collaboration to me.

After an all-star punk festival fell apart, the bands involved found themselves with some spare scratch and a landscape ripe for shootouts and standoffs.  The plot revolves around three hitmen/bank robbers who happen upon a small town populated by wild and wacky weirdos who they have to commingle with while they wait for the heat to die down.  Things, of course, go awry.  Honestly the plot is secondary though to the rollicking nature of the film, the setpieces, and total absurdity.

The film’s cast reads like a who’s who of the era’s punk and new wave scene.  There’s Joe Strummer, The Pogues, The Circle Jerks, Grace Jones, Elvis Costello, and even soon-to-be indie film god Jim Jarmusch.  And as an extra added bonus they’re all playing dress up.  Oh and Courtney Love‘s there too.

And she’s dressed well, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise if you follow her new Tumblr.  Pink dress with white polka dots not unlike this offering from Leifsdottir.  She might want to close those legs though.  But the matching watermelon‘s a nice touch.

Concerning the guys, check out Dick Rude‘s pants.  They’re very reminiscent of pairs shown off by Vivienne Westwood on a regular basis, which only seems fitting considering her place as the godmother of punk fashion.  Joe Strummer’s got on a ho-hum slim black suit but such a suit is almost always a recipe for looking good.

The gorgeous Jennifer Balgobin is, throughout the movie, basically a walking ad for American Apparel.  Look at the top picture for an example.  Spandex top?  Check.  High waisted bottoms?  Check.  That’s not to say she doesn’t class it up a little, though.  A simple, strapless blue dress which looks perfect for the weather…and also strikingly like this Jason Wu.

It’s almost frightening how much the women’s wardrobe in this movie matches up with pieces you’d find in today’s boutiques trending towards the younger gal.  Despite the film’s being over two decades old, the dress pictured above is here, here, and here.  And the boyfriend shirt?  Too many links to think about.

Similarly, this little white number on Michele Winstanley (I think) who, throughout the film, makes you wonder if Karen O got her whole schtick from this one character.  But back to the dress.  Ta-da!  And while the mariachi dressed men behind her probably aren’t exactly in style, they still look pretty awesome.

But before you think there’s only things for the ladies, say hello to Jeeves/Whitey and his killer pink summer suit.  Once again, very similar to something Westwood-ian, it also brings to mind pieces from Junya Watanabe and Filippa K.

The best ensemble in the entire movie, though, is definitely what Jim Jarmusch has got on.  It’s as if the director of such weirdo movies as Mystery Train, Dead Man, and Night On Earth decided to go as Karl Lagerfeld for Halloween.  And it is awesome.

Be warned: Straight to Hell is by no means a cinematic masterpiece, nor will it be in most people’s eyes ‘competent filmmaking’, what with a 5.5 rating on IMDB.  But if you go in with the right attitude, it’s as fun as Robocop and as splendorous as any period piece without being dry and/or expected.  Do yourself a favor and watch it.  (HINT: It’s on YouTube for free).

Bronson is held together as much by Refn’s deft directorial hand as the bombastic, unhinged performance of lead man Tom Hardy who became a mountain of muscle for the role.  With this impressive musculature, it would seem as if wardrobe would have to resort to outfitting Hardy a la the Hulkster in Mr. Nanny.  But these are Brits, after all, so bring out the tailors!

Two-toned forest green three piece suit.  The jacket’s not an oversized mess, the pants fit like a charm.  There’s no god-awful Wall Street/finance guy bootcut action going on here.  On top of that check out the sweet oxblood valise Hardy’s got going on.  I doubt anyone leaving prison’s ever looked so dashing.  Check the gallery for a closer look.

Another suit look from the film has Hardy in a black wool(?) three-piece that’s pure Savile Row.  The fit of the vest and the jacket, the collar of the button-down, all are reminiscent of venerable British designers Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood; or an up-and-comer like Oliver Spencer.  Add in the little details like the watch chain and the simple pocket square (and the face paint), and you’ve got a pretty spectacular outfit.  What could’ve slipped into train conductor shtick is instead just a great ensemble.

Let’s not forget, though, that this is a movie set in and about prison.  Costume designer Sian Jenkins forgoes the prison jumpsuit, instead infusing the prison scenes with a traditional/workwear vibe that’s been all the rage with younger designers in the States in accordance with the ongoing movement towards Americana.

The above two pictures feature pieces reminiscent of a pair of Brit designer Nigel Cabourn trousers.  Or check out Hardy’s sweatshirt–a dead ringer for this simple offering from Acne.  Then onto the jacket Matt King has on, and the workshirt featured above.  Someone should check if workwear obsessed Japanese brand Haversack cut some sort of deal with Refn.

Although Bronson has an overload of testosterone, there’s still room for the ladies.  For example, Bronson’s love interest (played by Juliet Oldfield) looks downright elegant in this McQueen-ish blouse.

Add to that this outfit on Oldfield that looks like a double for one of those ubiquitous American Apparel ads and you’ve officially run quite the spectrum throughout the film, from classic British suits to American/British-styled workwear, couture to hipster-city.

It only makes sense that Bronson runs such a gamut of styles.  The movie itself is a bombastic, complicated showcase of a great actor and director examining the life of a career criminal from stints in prison and the insane asylum, a career fighting men and animals for money, and ultimately prison again.

Even if the clothes weren’t impeccably chosen and designed, like last week’s entry Le Samouraï, the film’s worth checking out anyways.  Hardy and Refn make quite the team.

Not sure how I feel about this conceptual furniture, but I appreciate the originality.

You read it right, $2,000 for a pair of denim. Now normally I would say this is a huge waste, but I happen to love these jeans. Sure $2,000 is a ton for jeans, and I would never pay that, but these are equipped with solid silver plates on the legs. If I was fortunate enough to be able to spend that much on denim I would definitely consider buying these.

The Swedish denim kings strike again! Acne has produced yet another success for Spring 2010. They kept it simple with some solid denim and great looking coats. I love all of these looks.

The collection looks amazing, but I’m a bit confused about where/how Swarovski is involved in this collaboration at all.

Word has it design company, Acne, may be looking into fragrance. Acne founder, Jonny Johansson, says that in light of the recession he was allowed a certain degree of creative freedom, and with that freedom came the ability to look into something new and exciting. Now the perfume isn’t a definite, but it’s a fresh idea Johansson seems to be considering.

1. Naked and Famous- Rare and unique fabrics from Japan, high quality and satire play on our celebrity obsessed culture. Win.

2. April 77- Known for their attitude and underground influence, not wallet-breaking price. Made in France.

3. Cheap Monday- Tons of crazy prints and colored washes. Made in Sweden.

4. Replay-Great skinny and ‘boyfriend’ style, in a bunch of interesting washes. Made in Italy.

5. Acne- A ton of variety in mens’ fits, and repeat winner of ‘Designer of the Year’ by Swedish Elle.  Made in Sweden.

6. K(T)subi- Formerly Tsubi, currently Ksubi, this brand invented themselves based on fit, and has continued to outfit surfers in super, super jeans ever since. Made in Australia.

7. Nudie- Made from the best Italian, Turkish, American, and Japanese qualities using the best techniques. Made in Italy, with the only con being they don’t have a women’s line (yet?).

8. Diesel- I know people that swear by Diesel, mostly skinny guys who can never find sizes small enough for their 26 inch waists and still long enough for their 6’0 tall frames.  Diesel has always been known for their high-quality and long lasting denim. I may be impartial because I love everything Diesel makes, not just their jeans. Made in Italy.

9. Levis- After coming out with the 510 and 511, Levis seemed to have redeemed themselves as every hipster and musician’s best friend. Made in the US!

10. G Star- ‘Raw’ denim. Prides themselves in being about nothing more than the product itself, keeping it fashionable and well-fit. Made in the Netherlands.

Swedish brand Acne launches their new line of menswear-inspired jackets and pants, perfectly structured, and paired with sky-high platforms.  I’m not so keen on the plastic pants, but I suppose they pair well with the space-age silver platforms.  I’m sure the Olsens will be running out to get theirs ASAP.

Uggghhhhh Acne you are not helping here! I need this pink thing to be over stat, and now Acne just extended it to Fall with their classics collection. The collection is amazing, I just don’t like some of the color choices. The patterns for this collection are pretty standard, and the classic crew neck sweatshirt is a pretty cool and simple peice.

I know many of you probably like Acne, which is why we featured this collection. But I personally don’t, it’s too simple with absolutely nothing to make it stand out from the saturated world of black and white clothing. There is nothing about this collection that makes it worty of a collction, I’m even gonna go as far as saying the best thing about it is the model!

This spring, SSENSE is introducing designers Alexandre Herchcovitch, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens Drkshdw, Twenty8Twelve, Milly, Current/Elliot and Kris Van Assche to their boutique, which already includes labels like Acne, Ksubi, Robert Rodriguez, Clu and Black Halo.  This, along with the re-launch of their flagship boutique, puts SSENSE in high demand.

Opening in April 2009, on the corner of famous St. Paul street in Montreal’s historic Old Port, the two-story boutique boasts over 80ft of window display space showcasing fashion’s most exclusive design labels. The store’s interior, dominated by black brushed metal and glass, is a modern update to the boutique’s antiquated facade.  On the main floor, luxury designers Alexander Herchcovitch, Maison Martin Margiela and Rick Owens will be paired with artistic, avant-garde brands.  A steel and marble staircase leads underground to the second floor, where labels like OAK, Current/Elliot and Acne can be found.

This addition to the already well-styled website, ssense.com, will add a bit of punch to its merchandising mix. A boutique that carries Herchcovitch, Margiela and Owens in the same space almost makes me wish I was Canadian, almost.

Did you just yawn, because I certainly just did. Just as boring as the Lanvin x Acne collaboration, the denim overload accessories fail to impress me. Pieces like this were around in the 80s, so who in their right mind would drop nearly $1500 for the denim fold-over shoulder bag? Expensive. Unoriginal. Boring. Blah.

I don’t really know what to make of the Acne Fall 2009 Collection. The patterns are weird and a bit Bill Cosby-ish if you ask me. I was going to say I like the boots, but they have a weird heel on them. I will give them a plus in wearability, but that’s about all I can give them credit for. I really have to say I’m a bit let down.

Acne Fall/Winter 08 has been released with the right foot forward. The shoe collection/collaboration with Swedish shoe company Tretorn features a wide range of material and color for a variety of occasions. The bright colors used throughout the collection make the shoes a vital part of any outfit; they are certainly not a side note. There is also more basic and subtle color usage for a professional take on an ensemble.

Today, the Lanvin designer today unveiled his new collection with Acne Jeans, which will be available at Barneys New York and Bergdorf Goodman at the end of November.

“I’ve started conceptualizing all of this not so long ago, I was very pleased when I started working with Acne. They’re just young, energetic sexy Swedes and our partnership really wasn’t about signing hardcore contracts, it was really just about creating about something that was mutually fun and creative.”

Acne Jeans is rumored to be doing a collaborative collection with Lanvin. Quite a strange duo, but the collection, due to hit stores in 2009, will be a little overpriced for my taste; jeans running at the $1000-$2000 price mark. Guess Alber Elbaz’s knows what he’s doing so we’ll just wait and see.
