The channel is part of YouTube’s $100 million initiative to produce higher quality content in conjunction with other media companies in an effort to attract bigger and better advertisers who might not be so enamored with videos of dogs doing the darnest things and tweens sincerely singing Adele off-key into their computer screens .

YouTube provided Hearst with $10 million to start-up the channel, but the publisher will determine the content, which will be more plot-oriented than past online media and inspired by its magazine’s print features. So you can look forward to (?) video versions of Cosmo‘s “Sexy vs. Skanky” and Marie Claire‘s “Big Girl in a Skinny World.”

Hearst is also launching a Car and Driver channel on May 1 to appeal to its man magazine demographic that will feature a mix of service and reality shows such as Driver Rehab and Battle of the Beaters. The latter, to my chagrin, is not about the joys of self-service but about two auto body shops competing to fix up old cars.

Hudson’s emotional performance was one of several poignant moments during the telecast, including Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt paying tribute to the late Etta James and Amy Winehouse‘s parents accepting their daughter’s trophy with Tony Bennett for their duet, “Body and Soul.”

While Adele had to hitch a U-Haul to her limo to take home her six trophies, the Foo Fighters walked away with five including Best Rock Album for Wasting Light while Kanye West won four, including Best Rap Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Best Rap Song for “All of the Lights.”

Last but certainly not least, one Ms. Diana Ross was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, her first Grammy after 800 years in the business. The supreme diva took to the stage in a cloud of hair at the end of the night to present Adele with her Album of the Year award. And while the show featured countless moments that would best be forgotten — I’m looking at you Katy Perry and Taylor Swift — the symbolic passing of the torch from Whitney to Jennifer and Ms. Ross to Adele made this a night to remember.

With big hair, big cleavage, dramatic cheekbones, a pouty lip and an always-welcome cat-eye, Adele brings to mind a young Brigitte Bardot and introduces a more grown-up and sexy side of the Grammy winner. What do you think of Adele’s Vogue debut? [Styleite]

During his stint as global editor for Metro Paris on Monday, the Kaiser did what the Kaiser does best: not give a fuck. In a tirade on pop culture phenom person Lana del Rey, Lagerfeld happened to drop this tidbit: “The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.” And the backlash was akin to…well, Lana del Rey.

But Uncle Karl didn’t mean it like that. Employing the age-old PR trick of claiming his comments were “taken out of context,” Herr Lagerferld apologized…”apologized”:

“I’d like to say to Adele that ‘I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published. I actually prefer Adele, she is my favourite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you with regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.”

Even taken out of context, he’s still calling Adele “too fat” — but let’s not get into it. The point is — this the closest thing anyone will ever get to an apology from Karl Lagerfeld. Bringing up his past as a big girl himself? And then offering a plug for her nonexistent third album? It’s like Dracula walking in the daytime…without his glasses on to boot. Who knew that under that ponytail beats a heart (occasionally) of pure love and acceptance? [Vogue UK]

- Hopefully you all tuned in last night to the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race — i.e. the greatest show of all time. If you did, you might have noticed the thirteen dragtacular contestants brilliantly recreating the finale to Alexander McQueen‘s spring 1999 fashion show in which Shalom Harlow was assaulted by two paint-spewing mechanical arms. The major fashion titles were generally up in advertising from last year with W posting the greatest  gain at 25%  or 41 pages — though at a total of 204 pages, it is still only fifth in the rankings. InStyle had its biggest ad count since stomping onto the newsstand 18 years ago with 344 pages — a 13 % (39 pages) increase — bringing it in at number 2. And this is how the rest of the list shakes out:

1. Vogue — 442.74 pages, up 3.7%

2. InStyle — 344 pages, up 13% (39 pages)

3. Elle — 319 pages, up 2% (6 psges)

4. Harper’s Bazaar — 271 pages, up 16% (37 pages)

Meanwhile, what really matters in this story is that the March issue of Vogue will feature one Ms. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, which — just saying — will be a marked improvement from the current Grammy gal gracing the February issue.

- Paris Hilton‘s smelling all the way to the bank. The heiress has been standing (and probably occasionally kneeling) on her own two  for some time now and she’s claimed that since 2005 her fragrances have brought in over $1 billion. - Isaac Mizrahi is now a married woman! Mizrahi sat down with his sister from another mister Wendy Williams, revealing that he had recently married his boyfriend of six years. Turns out Wendy and Isaac share the same wedding date, though Mizrahi chose to elope to city hall in lieu of a big ceremony. - For the first time — but certainly not the last — in history, digital music sales surpassed physical sales. Lady Gaga is 2011′s most streamed artist; Nicki Minaj‘s “Superbass” the most-streamed song; and Adele‘s 21 and “Rolling in the Deep” the best-selling digital album and song, respectively. [CNN]

- Lauryn Hill‘s gorgeous 12-year-old daughter Selah Marley is a dead-ringer for her mommie dearest. [The YBF]

- Ryan Murphy cast leading ladies from his two hit shows, American Horror Story and Glee – including Lea Michele, Dianna Agron and future Emmy-winner Naya Rivera – in an editorial homage to his favorite horror movies for Elle. As usual, Amber Riley is conspicuously absent, but considering twas a horror-themed shoot, she was probably killed off in the first 5 minutes. [Elle]

-  French fashion chain La Redoute was apparently asleep at the wheel when it ok’d this image from its latest campaign featuring four adorable kids…and a naked man not-so discreetly (un)tucked into the background. Several designers have been requested to create special outfits for cover consideration in size 14 and 16 — Adele’s size — for the March 2012 Vogue issue.  The magazine declined to comment on the speculation, which is sure to be a bit embarrassing if it turns out that Ms. Wintour isn’t actually considering the songstress and just wanted extra material for draping.

Adele is up for the biggest prizes of the night, Album (21), Record and Song of the Year (“Rolling in the Deep”) — I mean, the RIAA might as well just start engraving her name on those golden gramophones now and call it a day. Kanye’s masterwork, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was somehow snubbed for an Album of the Year nod (god save the assistant who had to deal with that fallout), though Ye will go against himself in the Rap Album of the Year category — Watch the Throne, his collaboration with Jay-Z and Fantasy are both nominated.

Rihanna‘s Loud (no comment), Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way, Foo Fighters‘ Wasting Light, and Bruno Mars‘ Doo Wop & Hooligans are also up for Album of the Year. Joining Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Kanye’s “All of the Lights” (both highly deserving) in the Record of the Year category are Bon Iver‘s “Holocene,” Bruno Mars’ ”Grenade,” Mumford & Sons‘ ”The Cave,” and Katy Perry manages to sneak her way in yet again with “Firework.”

Shockingly absent from this year’s mutual admiration society is Grammy staple, Beyoncé. 4, in my opinion her best solo effort to date, received only one nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Party” — not the video version, but the good one with André 3000. Of course, Queen Bey has 16 Grammys already and she’ll probably be busy giving birth to her alleged baby come Grammy night anyway.  Her chief rival for diva supremacy, one Lady Gaga, only came out with three nods this year, and not even one for music video (if not for “Born This Way,” at least “Judas,” kids).  Meanwhile, late chanteuse and 5-time winner Amy Winehouse garnered a posthumous nomination for her duet with Tony Bennett, “Body and Soul.”

The last category anyone could possibly care about is that combination gift/curse, Best New Artist. Nicki  Minaj is the frontrunner based simply on popularity and record sales, and is the only female solo artist nominated this year. She will face off against Bon Iver, The Band Perry, J. Cole, and Skrillex.

Link Love: Socialite Life

The Swedish superstar’s Body Talk series was one (or rather three) of the best albums to come out last year and her epic ode to the self-samba, “Dancing on My Own” has yet to leave my iPod rotation. It warms what’s left of my heart to see her getting some much-deserved attention, especially after being snubbed this year at the Grammys.

Sidebar: I mean, really, Teenage Dream? But I promised myself I wouldn’t get too upset about it, especially after that incident last year with Taylor Swift.

Joining Robyn in Elle‘s “Music Issue,” out April 12th, will be the Messiah also known as Beyoncé, Florence Welch (of the Machine), hair-whipper Willow Smith, American Idol judge and apparently-still-a-”singer” J. Lo, the baddest bitch in the rap game Nicki Minaj, multi-hyphenate supermom Gwen Stefani, blue-eyed soul songstress Adele, Oscar and Grammy-winner Jennifer Hudson, the incomparable Stevie Nicks and the Queen herself, Aretha Franklin.

That’s quite the line-up and the cover is quite a get for Robyn, who will also be performing April 11th as part of  Elle‘s second annual “Women in Music” event at the Music Box in Hollywood.

So West Coast gays, I expect you all to rally in support. After all, good pop music must be treasured and nurtured like the sequin-clad bird of paradise that it is.

It’s amazing what a little contorted posing and photoshop (I’m assuming) can do for an overweight songbird. Adele is the latest chunk monster to get Voguefied. Annie Leibovitz shot this image of the recent Grammy winner, creating a shape that is a far, far cry for her normal build. Arms stretched, laying on the bed angularly while wearing all black and holding your cheek chunk back while trying to look comfortable is not a shape, it’s a yoga move, but it’s definitely not a shape.

Why can’t Vogue take the route of a soon to be more successful magazine (LOVE) and just shoot the fat girls like their fat? What’s so wrong with showcasing a couple rolls?
