For its January “Music Issue,” V Magazine grabbed two turntables and a microphone for a hip-hop-inspired editorial featuring Anais Mali, Chrishell Stubbs, Cora Emmanuel, Rob Evans and Travone Hill. Fashion editor Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele outfits Sebastian Faena‘s raptacular story with 80s hip-hop staples like shell-top Adidas, gold chains, tracksuits and medallions, as well as a fair share of lamé from the post-Biggie Puff Daddy and Ma$e era. Nicki Minaj could do well by herself by staying away from the Muppet-on-acid look and outfitting herself in some of these blingtastic numbers.

Deer Dana was founded in 2008 by by designers Dana Veraldi and Kevin Tekinel. Their signature collection of tees and totes feature the images of icons both mainstream and underground. the label has collaborated with prestigious name susch as: Adidas, Tory Burch, Gap, and most recently Olivier Theyskens for Theory‘s Fashion’s Night Out.

The hand drawn design are so cool and perfect for any pop culture junkie. Not to mention if you have Leigh Lezark on you’re side then you’re pretty much stamped as an official cool kid. Check out a few of our favorite styles below:

Fashion’s New Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) is, according to professional smartypants, Matthew Szymczyk, “a blanket term for augmenting the real world with digital information.” Szymczyk is the chief executive of Zegura, an L.A.-based software company that created a virtual dressing room for British e-boutique, Banana Flame.

AR is the wave of fashion’s future, adding another layer of interactivity and just plain awesomeness to the shopping experience. Adidas introduced sneakers last year, the Originals Augmented Reality Pack, featuring AR codes on its tongues that when scanned would lead to interactive games online. T-shirts by London’s Cassette Playa have AR codes that reveal horns and other weird shit on its wearer’s heads.

And in April, Burberry had an Augmented Reality fashion show in Beijing with hologrphic models catwalking side-by-side with their real life counterparts.

Fashion mags are also getting into the AR groove, with Dazed & Confused having implemented AR codes in its March 2010 issue that, when scanned with a webcam, made “the pages come alive on your screen, as a fashion film is superimposed on the magazine image,” explains the pub’s editor Rod Stanley.

As the idea of a virtual closet has tantalized me since the sartorial heyday of Cher Horowitz – everything inevitably comes back to Clueless — Augmented Reality offers a viable, though not completely perfected approximation. Though one can get the general idea of what a prospective purchase may look like via Banana Flame, the touch, the feel (of cotton) and the actual fit of the garment isn’t replicable…yet.

For now, Augmented Reality is this cool gimmick used to entice and intrigue — much like the current craze over 3-D — but unlike that gimmick, AR has the potential to completely change the way we shop — and you don’t need those funky glasses, either. [NYT]

Birthday! I Would Like You to Dance, Stella McCartney

Happy Birthday Stella McCartney! I never would have guessed she turned 40 today – positively gorjuss. And what a thrilling year she’s had: a store opening within Saks Fifth Ave, a contract to design the British Olympic uniforms, a stunning well-received Fall 2011 collection, and the opportunity to costume the MET ballet, Ocean’s Kingdom. Not only did the latter allow her to employ all she has learned at ADIDAS and with designing for the Olympics in a far more artful manner, but it gave her a chance to work professionally with the ballet’s composer, her father, Sir Paul McCartney.

It is both McCartneys’ first foray into ballet. Paul is donating his time and Stella is lending her services at a reduced rate; essentially they are doing it for the art of it. Though Paul is technically only the composer (whose role typically is over after the music is delivered), he has been there at every rehearsal, contributing to the set, choreography, et all. He wrote the storyline and is seeing the project, as he does, from start to finish with his hands deep in, committed to the project. It was, in fact, not his idea to bring his daughter on board, rather the producers of the show suggested it. Brilliant, thank you.

Mob Style Takes a Hit

Picture it. Sicily. Jail. Imprisoned mobsters in Palermo’s Ucciardone prison are too fly and the new governor Rita Barbera is straight up playa hatin’. Barbera is imposing a new prison order by banning the stylish mobsters from wearing luxury brands such as Prada, Gucci, Valentino, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Armani.

“The popular image of this jail is linked to the silk suits of godfathers and we need to cancel that image,” says Governor Barbera. But Barbera is an equal opportunity killjoy; in addition to the finer threads in life, she has banned Nike and Adidas. ”We need to cancel class differences and the showing off of status, power and wealth,” she emphasized.

The mob wives, for their part, are taking it as calmly as can be expected. “My husband will be left naked,” remarked one wife. ”He only has designer clothes, and that’s not because he’s flashy but because they last much longer and are better quality. Why humiliate him? Why force us to buy clothes at street markets?” She then tipped over a table, threw her drink in someone’s (anyone’s) face and lunged after the governor’s neck screaming about said naked husband.

The Ucciardone prison, known to inmates as “The Grand Hotel,” has been witness to mobsters holding lobster and champagne birthday banquets as well as a formal wedding in the prison chapel.

Why deny the sacred — and stunning — tradition of mobsters openly flaunting the law and looking great while doing it? I wouldn’t be surprised if Governor Rita Barbera wakes up next to Raquel Zimmermann‘s head one day. [Guardian]

Music and fashion have always seemed to go hand in hand; one inspiring the other, one amplified by the other, one blatantly stealing from the other, etc. As rock and roll became a lifestyle and MTV invaded the airwaves, the line between music and fashion began to all but disappear. That is in large part thanks to these 10 performances, albums, songs, music videos — moments in pop history — that forever defined and redefined the relationship between music and fashion.

1. Madonna – Blond Ambition Tour (1990)

Always lauded, and at times harshly criticized, for her chameleon-like reinventions, she is nevertheless the artist who most brilliantly illustrates — and has done the most to encourage — the symbiotic relationship between music and fashion. Madge reached her sartorial high point during her wildly successful Blond Ambition Tour, featuring costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier who designed the now legendary cone bra.

2. Michael Jackson – “Beat It” music video (1983)

Perhaps the most iconic single article of clothing in pop music history, MJ’s red leather jacket was a cultural watershed moment because it became almost synonymous with Thriller, i.e. the biggest album of all time. The ankle-baring trousers — a nod to Fred Astaire – white socks and black shoes were also trademarks of the 80s and still loom large over the singer’s incredible legacy.

3. The Beatles - The Ed Sullivan Show (1964)

When the Beatles invaded America, they brought along with them enduring and generation-defining trends such as the Beatle boot, collarless suits and the mop top — not to mention hysteria the likes of which Justin Bieber could only dream.

4. David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust Tour (1973-74)

Without Ziggy, Elton John would never have discovered his love of feathered headdresses, LaBelle wouldn’t have strutted around New Orleans in their silver lamé and simply put, there would be no Lady Gaga. A high-concept album with a high-concept look, David Bowie introduced androgyny to the pop culture masses, and decades later his seminal faux rocker is still a fashion favorite.

5. Diana Ross and the Supremes – “Come See About Me” on The Ed Sullivan Show (1964)

Three black girls from Detroit became the epitome of style, grace, beauty and glamor in the midst of social upheaval and racial injustice. Oprah said it best (as she does with everything): it was life-changing.

6. Ramones – Ramones (1976)

While the Beatles inspired bands to dress up, the Ramones’ relaxed, almost comalike coolness influenced other bands to keep it simple — years later their pared down style still feels like quintessential New York. Especially with all the hipsters dragging their Converses, skinny jeans and leather jackets around.

7. George Michael – “Freedom! ’90″ video (1990)

George Michael’s identity crisis led to the zenith of the supermodel explosion. Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Tatjana Patitz took the place of the singer — reluctant to appear in his own video — and lip-synched their way to iconic status in the clip directed by future friend of Facebook, David Fincher.

8. Nirvana - “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music video (1991)

Marc Jacobs‘ landmark Grunge collection for Perry Ellis in 1992 may have led to his dismissal, but it also cemented the enormous cultural impact Kurt Cobain and Nirvana had inadvertently etched out for themselves thanks to the success of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Till this day the sight of plaid inspires those famous first notes and the image of zombie cheerleaders dancing through my head.

9. Run-D.M.C. – “My Adidas” (1986)

Hip hop has long been obsessed with fashion and material goods, but we wouldn’t have Kanye “The Louis Vuitton Don” West rapping about haute couture if we didn’t have Run D.M.C. extolling the virtues of their shell tops.

10. Lady Gaga – “Bad Romance” music video (2010)

Gaga went from popstar to phenomenon on the heels of her Alexander McQueen armadillo shoes. The video stands as an homage not only to McQueen and his legacy, but to the woman most responsible for Gaga’s amazing aptitude for reinvention: Madonna. And she’s been paying homage ever since.

Men Trends: A Little Leopard

This spring leopard will be the must have print for the upcoming warmer weather seasons.

The high fashion inspiration comes from the Givenchy S/S mens collection which featured many leopard print pieces including the jacket Kanye West is wearing and the pants Garrett Hedlund wore on the cover of W magazine which are both featured in the image above.

It might be the Jersey in me but I’ve always had a soft spot for this specific animal print and now there are so many ways for guys to pull it off without looking gaudy.

I love that this look great in both high and low-priced pieces. For example if you want to go for a super sophisticated you can get the H&M Hearts Lanvin bow tie, special edition Rolex Daytona watch, or Gioacomorlli leopard horsehide studded loafers.

When it come to prints Jeremy Scott always does it right and that’s why you should pick up any leopard inspired pieces from his Adidas collaboration.

At the end of the day leopard is a wild and cool print. For the cool kid and trend setter these leopard shorts from Crooks & Castles. My favorite leopard inspired piece is probably the aviators from A-morir by the fantastic Kerin Rose.

Blue Margaritas & Awesome Kicks at Diesel

Last night, Diesel held an exclusive launch event for their Spring 2011 sneaker collaboration with Adidas at their Lexington Flagship store in NYC. We got a first look at five classic Adidas styles redesigned by Diesel for a limited edition capsule collection. While browsing all of the fab merchandise, we sipped on blue margaritas and Radeberger Pilsner and had our ears blasted with tunes by DJ Blaqstar.

These were my favorites sneakers. I love the different studs.

Check out this tweet from Mediabistro’s UnBeige: “A reliable source tells us that Nike is cooking up a major collaboration with fashion designer Alexander Wang.”

Fashionologie said Wang‘s PR team could not be reached for comment. I guess Nike wants to join the likes of Adidas and Puma with a designer collaboration, producing clothes that actually make me want to go to the gym. I can’t wait to hear if this one is true or false.

After peeping the Sofles character wearing the adidas heels on Saturday night I was grossed out but when I spotted the real thing by Adidas, the Y-3 Torsion heel, on Kari’s blog, I almost spewed!! Reminds me of skanks wearing Adidas jackets with an Ed Hardy cap and heels thinkin’ they’re real urban and shit, or remember J-Lo in the Timberland heels in the Jenny on the Block video as if jackin' a Beatnuts beat wasn't enough?? or it reminds me of tacky chicks like this we all love to hate…

Call me a tomboy, but I’m sure dudes with taste aren’t feeling this shit either……It defeats the whole purpose of what a sneaker is made for!!! I’m sure we’ll see Suri playing sports in them soon enough…

As the weather warms up, adidas Originals introduces three new color ways of their Hillsdale silhouette.

The three new color-ways, Black/Metallic Gold, White/Collegiate Royal and Aluminum/Macaw, take inspiration from the New York City streets, that combines urban street style with skate and contemporary rock star flavor and authentic basketball roots.

Long Live McQueen: The Influence of an Emerging Designer

of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves St Laurent, wasn’t it, who showed
cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean
quickly showed up in the collections of 8 different designers. Then it filtered
down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic
casual corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin.
However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so
it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you
from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was
selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of stuff.” This said
by the ever popular Miranda Priestley can represent many designer’s
accomplishments. In this case, it will represent Alexander McQueen’s accomplishments
and his fashion influences through out his short lived career

On February 11^th, the week of New York Fashion Week, McQueen was
discovered dead in his London home. He was 40 years young.

He was discovered hanging in his wardrobe, and was left with a note of which has
not been revealed to the public. Just a few days before his death, McQueen’s
mother died and a few years ago his very close friend Isabella Blow committed
suicide, leaving many to believe that he committed suicide because of their
deaths.

Alexander McQueen has started many trends that have influenced many designers to include
these trends in their collections. Remember when it was cool to walk around
school with Adidas sandals and socks? Remember Ginger Spice of Spice Girls who
used to wear patriotic footwear? The list can drag on but what is most
important about these styles that Alexander McQueen started them all.

Shown in his 2009 Spring Mens Ready-to-Wear collection, Alexander McQueen sent his male models
down the runway wearing gold sandal sneakers with socks. A small portion of his
show then spread to the public like a disease eventually being mimicked with
the Adidas sandals and socks trend.

In 2006, McQueen experimented with showing his runway shows live on the Internet. He was the
first designer to live stream his show and has influenced other designers such
as Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, and Isaac Mizrahi.

Designing for the ever so popular Lady Gaga has also made Alexander McQueen a legend, with his
Futuristic meets Victorian style. Ever since he debuted his ten inch armadillo
heels, which were seen in Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” video, they became a hit
and he was immediately contacted for orders.

McQueen’s fashion house will still go on without his presence, but his vision will forever be
gone. His last show was presented on March 10^th during Paris Fashion
Week at a private show. Womens Wear Daily described it to be “Solemn,
funereal and even a little spooky.”

It is a shame to see one of fashion’s most influential designers go in such a sad way. Seeing
everything about McQueen said in past tense seems so wrong. Long Live McQueen.

Agyness Deyn, Ana Ivanovic, Cassandra Steen, Hyori Lee, Whitney Port, Tallulah Morton, Ciara and Cheer Chen all get their groove on and even Mark “The Cobrasnake” makes appearance. Following in Jeremy Scott’s and Kazuki’s footsteps is David Beckham with his very own Adidas Originals by Originals collection. The upcoming fall collection was created with the help of James Bond, the owner of the Undefeated sneaker-freak boutiques.

Their design approach was to update classic American sportswear with fashionable silhouettes and details. The apparel range features materials such as leather, cashmere and silk, while the footwear builds on iconic Adidas styles. The duo also developed accessories and thermal layering pieces.

But don’t get too excited, David has no plans of making appearances to promote the line. BOO!

Yesterday it was the Adidas sneakers by Jeremy Scott, today we have the Adidas Orginals Collection by Jeremy Scott. I will say it started off not so bad, then it got real bad real fast. I mean I don’t think I really have to explain why it’s so bad, but why not make sure you get the point. Unless you are being a pimp/whore or the cast of the Lion King for Halloween don’t waste your money. This line can easily be summed up by that picture of that girl in the hoodie, a big leopard printed log of shit! That hoodie has weird arms sticking out of the side and a creepy hood, it really isn’t good looking at all. For those of you who are looking to land the back of your 5 IQ head on Back-stabber, buy that sweatshirt and come hang around our office and your bound to be discovered. Oh Jeremy Scott, I almost liked for a whole day this time!

Fuck Redbull, Jeremy Scott will give me wings! Another collaboration another Jeremy Scott success. In his recent work with Adidas, Scott has produced three stlye shoes that come in three colorways each. The gold hightops with wings are some of the coolest tennis shoes I have seen in a long time. No word on a price yet, but the collection is another Spring line, so you’re going to have to wait for these ones.

Why do guys commonly use the term “high-tops” to mean the classic Converse sneakers or the recently popular Nike Dunks? You can never go wrong pairing your black Converse with a pair of raw denim straight legs, a black button-up and a few accessories here and there. And we all know how versatile those Nike Dunks can be…a red and black pair to match your plaid or even neons to go with all of your hiliter yellows, oranges and greens. But take a look around…your brother, your cousin, your best friend’s uncle’s ex-wife’s son’s next-door neighbor ALL have these shoes. I assure you, there are other high-top options out there!

Above are a few pairs I came across while searching Ssense and Revolve Clothing. Although these high-tops are rather similar to the designs and concepts of Converse and Nike Dunks (slim fit, aeration pores, ankle laces) they have enough detail and flare to make them unique. Depending on the brand and material, these shoes can set you back anywhere from $100-$400…but it beats looking like every other Beatle band reject and fake NBA star out there!

What is the point of fashionable athletic gear if it isn’t breathable, resilient and downright comfortable? British designer Stella McCartney didn’t simply show us her Adidas collection, she showed us how it moved in action. Forget the models, Olympic athletes decked out in McCartney’s designs showed buyers exactly how these garments performed. Along the lines of the London Fashion Week trends, McCartney showed bright colors infused in scalloped athletic tops and spandex leggings. McCartney’s contoured spring athletic gear was designed specifically to make the female body appear toned and fit. Thanks Stella for giving us another reason to lace up the sneakers and hit the gym!
