Harper’s Bazaar’s Redesign Features a Faceless Gwyneth Paltrow

Harper’s Bazaar has had some serious work done and she is looking good. Glenda Bailey is determined that nobody put her baby in the corner and has revealed a new look for the magazine beginning with the March issue. Harper’s is now one inch larger with thicker paper, new typograhy and features — and who better to launch the makeover than Bailey’s favorite cover girl, Gwyneth Paltrow? Photographed by Terry Richardson, the striking subscriber cover features Gwyneth with her face obscured by her flowing golden locks while giving body and leg for days in a revealing dress by relatively unknown designer Anthony Vaccarello.

“It’s a very daring thing to do, where you don’t immediately see her face.” Bailey told WWD, adding for good measure, “As you know, I was the first to develop this two-cover approach.” Let ‘em know Glen.

While still fourth among fashion pubs in ad pages, the March issue saw a 15.5% increase with new advertisers including Tom Ford, Hervé Léger and Alberta Ferretti. Between those ads you’ll notice new features such as “The List” — “the ultimate list of things to be aware of this month,” according to Bailey — a monthly travel column called “The Escape,” an expanded beauty section, more news and Derek Blasberg‘s previously online only “Best-Dressed List” makes its way to a monthly column.

Christian Dior tried to rebound from a potential PR nightmare, to varying degrees of success. Diffusion lines easily out-shined their designer homes. An editrix reinvented herself amidst a sea of rumors without losing a beat. And underaged fashionistas grew up in front of our very eyes. Here are our picks for the 25 most memorable and stylish moments of 2011.

25. Beyoncé at the VMAs How does an internationally-renowned pop diva announce her alleged pregnancy with as little -- and yet as much -- fanfare as possible? Why in Lanvin and Dolce and Gabbana, of course. Cupping her burgeoning baby bump on the red carpet, Bey let loose the dogs of publicity war when she thew her mic to the ground, ripped open her Dolce jacket, and announced to the world the coming of the Messiah.

11. Marc Jacobs stolen spring 2012 collection Lifted from a train en route from Paris, the theft of parts of Marc Jacobs' spring 2012 collection was this year's biggest and most intriguing mystery. Besides, of course, whether Marc himself would defect to Christian Dior or stick it out with Louis Vuitton -- who, coincidentally, was also a victim of theft just two weeks later. Yep, big coincidence.

Moss wed longtime beau Jamie Hince in an epic three-day long ceremony known cheekily as Mosstock. BFF Naomi Campbell was one of her bridesmaids, and in a show of solidarity, Moss chose a wedding dress by John Galliano. Kate Moss' wedding was not only front-page news, it garnered the most coveted cover of the year: Vogue's September issue.

8. Bill Cunningham New York Originating and perfecting the art of streetstyle photography decades before The Sartorialist picked up a camera, Bill Cunningham finally got his time in the spotlight thanks to a heartwarming documentary that reveled a little of the man behind that ubiquitous lens.

4. The reinvention of Carine Roitfeld Quele scandale! Did she get fired? Did she quit? Are she and Emmanuelle Alt no longer friends? The rumors have been buzzing around Carine Roitfeld since she officially exiting Vogue Paris in February -- and in the process creating a future supermodel in Saskia de Brauw -- after 10 landmark, nipple-bearing years. But through it all, Carine has been the picture of calm and chic, hiking up her pencil skirt and reinventing herself as a brilliant and in-demand stylist/the coolest bitch on the planet. Stay tuned for another reinvention when Carine launches a new magazine and starts life as a grandmother next year.

3. Kate Middleton's Alexander McQueen wedding dress The speculation was unbearable for what was the biggest and most well-kept secret in an age of superfluous information. Though an unsurprising but nevertheless brilliant choice, Sarah Burton's handiwork cemented the Duchess of Cambridge (née Kate Middleton) as not only a bona fide style icon but a phenomenon on both sides of the Atlantic. Meanwhile, Burton proved she was the right person to carry on McQueen's brilliant legacy and take it to the next level.

Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty The most successful fashion exhibit in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's history, Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty set records and inspired fashion lovers and neophytes alike. The exhibit proved so popular, in fact, the Met extended its run twice. Even then, there were still lines of people waiting hours to get into the museum, but for 661,509 people it was well-worth the wait.

John Galliano stars in Gallianogate John Galliano's downfall has loomed large all year, particularly since Christian Dior has yet to announce his replacement, despite a neverending back-and-forth with a stubborn Marc Jacobs. Following a stint in rehab, a guilty conviction in Paris for making anti-Semitic remarks, and the general destruction of his reputation, Galliano at least had one bright spot this year: designing good friend Kate Moss' wedding dress. Galliano's dismissal also raised questions about the stress designers are under to deliver multiple collections a year -- just ask Balmain's Christophe Decarnin. Everyone's still waiting to see who Dior picks to take the throne and if Galliano can make a comeback after such a devastating fall. As 2011 comes to a close, 2012 has the promise of even more scandals, breakdowns and breakthroughs that we cannot wait to cover obsessively for you. Prabal Gurung really knows how to make a woman feel like a lady; something Sheen usually undoes in a matter of minutes, but a pastel pink can soften anyone’e edges.

Some goddesses deign to walk the earth with mortals, while some come alive in nature. And for some, like Chronic Girl 2010, Natalie Kenly, nature holds the promise of some really choice bud. What better way to answer that age-old question “how green was my valley?” then with this floral-inspired number from Alberta Ferretti.

Besides ancient Greece, the greatest goddesses resided in the 70s: Diana Ross, Cher, Liza, Bianca Jagger, Elton John. Prada took a page out of that glittery era’s chapter with this sequined fur number that would look great hunched over a pile of cocaine on Charlie Sheen’s coffee table.

Versace

The bodice of this gown is positively Grecian, but the skirt says fiesta. A goddess can really kick up her tranny heels with this gam-bearing confection, whether they’re dancing vertically, or more likely, horizontally in a pool of tiger blood.

If anything, a goddess loves to feel powerful. What’s the point of all those Sheen-baiting gifts if you don’t show ‘em off once in a while, am I right? And nothing says “power” like a gold lamé pantsuit. Business-fabulous.

It’s doubtful that Natalie and Rachel could walk in these towering platforms, but they’re on Team Sheen and Team Sheen is all about winning. And winners don’t fall, except perhaps from grace.

Red Carpet Report Card: Best of the Golden Globes

Welcome to the Red Carpet Report Card, Golden Globes addition. So many dresses, so little time to grade them all. First, let’s take a look at the best dressed of the night.

My best dressed choice was tied between three different beautiful ladies, but Anne Hathaway stands just a bit above the other two in Armani Privé. For a tall beauty with perfect curves like this, a structured shoulder is the best thing you can do for your body. She looks so graceful and statuesque in these beautiful rose sequins.

The back is to die for. It’s provocative, feminine and lovely. Anyone else, I would have said the hair should be worn up, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Anne looks. She is a goddess. She gets an A+.

Green was the color of the night, and no one wore it better than Angelina Jolie in Versace. Again, we’re seeing a beautiful padded shoulder that opens up the back and draws attention to her tiny waist. She looks glamorous without that “going to prom” nod that so many celebrities decided to do. I love the top to bottom sparkles and her elegant and unfussy hair. Grade A.

Not only is she talented enough to be on one of the best TV shows of our time, she is the only actress who could pull of this sexy, fringed Versace gown. Everything from the color, to her hair and that beautiful cleavage, January is a fashion risk-taker, and I love her for it. A

In a Hollywood full of tramps and star fuckers, how beautiful it is to see a real lady stand by her man. Catherine Zeta Jones was absolutely glowing in this green Monique Lhuillier princess gown. It was so good to see her and Michael Douglas on the red carpet together. Beauty from the inside out: A.

If you have a flat chest, a 1920s style dress like this is prefect for your body. Jayma Mays got it right in this elegant and sexy Alberta Ferretti plunging v-neck gown. The accessories and curly locks perfectly complete the look. The lipstick looks a little orange, but it works against her hair and skin tones. A-

Now let’s talk about a big chest. Scarlet Johansson has a gorgeous, very voluptuous rack, and this dress enhances in a different way. Instead of spilling her cleavage all over the red carpet, Scarjo chose this demure and elegant Elie Saab gown in a lovely dusty pink. It sparkles just the right amount, and the sleeve is extremely flattering. Plus, she had the best hair on the red carpet. A-

I commend Leighton Meester for trying to take fashion risks, but lately they’ve been backfiring hardcore. I was pleased to see her looking so elegant and sophisticated in Burberry Prorsum on the red carpet last night. Her makeup is absolutely gorgeous and those Jimmy Choo shoes are fab-o-rama. It’s not my favorite, but I do love the dress and her. B

I’m not used to putting Eva Longoria in the best dressed category for her red carpet looks, but she looked ravishing last night in a fitted, black Zac Posen gown. It fits her like a glove and her whoa cleavage is saying hello to every single man in that crowd. Slightly bored, but I think that’s a good thing in her case. B

Here is the thing about Lea Michele‘s Oscar de la Renta gown: It does not photograph well. When watching her on the red carpet, she looked young, fresh and vibrant in this light salmon dress. It looks too consuming in photographs. But the color on her is amazing. I am so sick of this whispy, bull-shitty kind of up-do, so no points there. But the shoes, HELLO! B-
