Models At The Met

Models At The Met all indieBeing exposed, first hand, to all the glorious fashions from runway shows and editorials, one would think that models would steal the the best dressed award on last night’s Met Gala red carpet. While Chanel Iman, in her stunning Zac Posen dress, was a show stopping attendee, Shalom Harlow looked rather homeless and out of place in her crumpled, Gareth Pugh-ish garbage bag. Brooke Shields looked like a mermaid body builder. Agyness Deyn was an over-bronzed transvestite. Brooklyn Decker rocked out a Mary-Kate worthy outfit. All in all, the model fashion was skewed across the board. Tsk tsk…I expected big things from such fashion relatives.

SPREAD UM: Alek Wek in I D Magazine, March 2009 magazines

I believe Alek Wek can do no wrong, and this spread is no different. The supermodel is transformed into an African queen for the latest issue of I-D magazine. Wek shows off the ethnic fashion of the season better than anyone else could. I absolutely love her shoes in this photo; finding out where to buy them would put my wallet in grave danger.

WTF!?! Alek Wek #fashionfail

WTF!?! Alek Wek #fashionfail all indie

Alek Wek seems to have mixed up the Golden Globes for a night of clubbing in the Meat Packing District. The model decided to alter this Christian Dior dress converting it into a horrid Forever 21 rejected mini.

Domini-can: Arlenis Reps it for the Hispanicals in Black Vogue

ArelisSo I’ve already talked about the all black people issue of Vogue Italia that is set to hit newsstands in June, but what I didn’t realize is that the issue will also feature some of my peeps.  Arlenis, a fresh faced Dominican model, will be gracing the pages of the issue with a solo spread and one where she’ll play model friendly with Alek Wek, Jourdan and Iman Chanel.

So that begs the question to be asked.

Is it an all Black Vogue if some of the models aren’t black? Or is this more a non-white Vogue?

Either way, it’s kind of exciting to see a model on the runway from the island countries. It isn’t my native Puerto Rico, but I’ve spent enough time with Dominicandies to call them friends.
