Hudson’s emotional performance was one of several poignant moments during the telecast, including Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt paying tribute to the late Etta James and Amy Winehouse‘s parents accepting their daughter’s trophy with Tony Bennett for their duet, “Body and Soul.”

While Adele had to hitch a U-Haul to her limo to take home her six trophies, the Foo Fighters walked away with five including Best Rock Album for Wasting Light while Kanye West won four, including Best Rap Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Best Rap Song for “All of the Lights.”

Last but certainly not least, one Ms. Diana Ross was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, her first Grammy after 800 years in the business. The supreme diva took to the stage in a cloud of hair at the end of the night to present Adele with her Album of the Year award. And while the show featured countless moments that would best be forgotten — I’m looking at you Katy Perry and Taylor Swift — the symbolic passing of the torch from Whitney to Jennifer and Ms. Ross to Adele made this a night to remember.

When and how did your line begin?

I launched my accessories line in the Fall of 2010 with a concept design of epaulets.  I created a small collection in different styles and they ended up in the hands of some fashion influentials. I’ve since introduced earrings, bangles and eyewear.

What inspires your work?

I watch a lot of nature documentaries. I’m in love with the beluga whale. I watch the same documentaries over and over.. I’ve seen the Blue Planet series over a hundred times and I now watch Microcosmos fanatically. Have you ever seen ladybugs make love? It’s a fascinating and a gentle experience.

Where do you finding the amazing leathers and animal skins that you use on your accessories?

I buy my leather at the same place that Helmut Lang, Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar De La Renta buy from. Its expensive and the best in the city. Libra Leather. I work with Sam Jones, The Leather Queen. She has great taste and instincts when it comes to leather. Libra Leather has been pioneering leather trends in New York for decades. They provide the selection designers conceptualize their entire leather collection from. They are best in the biz.

The Feather Spray Earrings seem like a big deviation from some of your previous designs. What was the inspiration behind those?

When I launched my line in October 2009 I used feathers in the fabrication of many of those epaulet designs. The feather was lying on my desk at a certain angle and it came to me.. that should be attached to an ear. I guess it’s all the nature videos I watch.

What celebrities have you worked with?

I grew up in NYC so Mary J Blige, Lauryn Hill and Beyonce were the soundtrack of my life. I attended borderline ruff schools and their music was uplifting and their voices strong, I adored them. Now as an adult, this entire experience as a designer has been transcendental for me. I often can’t believe who I’ve turned out to be. Just three years ago I was the most unhappiest girl in the world. I’ve designed for all them. I’ve also created custom accessories for Lil Wayne’s and Prince’s musical tours.. I used to make out with posters of Prince. I’ve designed for Alicia Keys’ Freedom tour.  Lauryn Hill just bought my entire collection for her European tour.

What’s your favorite part about being a designer?

The actual design process is probably my favorite part of being a designer. I often struggle between concept and application.. I’ll think about a construction for months before I even attempt to piece it together.. My own thoughts intimidate me. There is an element of anxiety I experience and I know that I’ll figure it out eventually. There are some designs I’ve constructed, not many, that I will never share with the world. I hoard special pieces.

What are the biggest challenges as a designer?

Figuring out which tradeshows to do make me pretty dizzy.

Three must haves to have in your wardrobe?

Combat boots, a black fur and a balaclava.

What is your best moment that you’ve experienced in your career?

All of them have been extraordinary. Getting picked up by Nordstrom, a tour order from Alicia Keys, selling at Patricia Field and having my mom and dad say that they’re proud of me.

What advice do you have for aspiring designers?

Organize yourself. Have a decent website, take good pictures, get a press list, don’t get tired, get motivated.  Surround yourself with good people that want good for you.  Love yourself and visualize yourself in the place you want to be.

How would you describe your personal style?

My look changes drastically, often. Recently my style is Le Femme Nikita.. assassin chic.

What is the inspiration behind “in love and good fashion” and “good taste must be shared”?

I tend to curate everything. My friends, my wardrobe and words.. I love language and assembling words together.. In Love and Good Fashion fell into place in the first weeks of creating my first collection.. it represents the head set I was in at the time..

Good Taste Must Be Shared is a personal philosophy.. Good taste crosses over into all aspects of living.. food, clothing, jewelry, travel and all of earths spoils.. Everything that is good about anything should be shared and enjoyed.

What’s currently on your iPod?

I don’t have an Ipod but I have been listening to Amy Winehouse, Wu Tang Clan, Florence and The Machine and Lauryn Hill recently.

Describe Mary Had A little Scam and the other short films you are working on based on your line?

I decided to make a short film when the concepts in my head began to move and could only be expressed through video. I’ve watched enough documentaries and films to understand the shooting style I like.  I titled the film Mary Had  A Little Scam to represent the duality between innocence and  a calculated menace. I wanted to create a sexy film that captures the private moments strong women experience when alone.. the awkwardness, paranoia, struggle, uncertainty and ultimate perseverance.  The character Mary in the short film Mary Had A Little Scam has a public persona of  a fierce rebel leader with the American Accessories Coalition for Good Taste (AACGT). Her mission is to collect rare jewelry from around the world, sharing good taste with the masses.

What are you currently working on for your line right now?

I’m preparing a trip to Paris, meetings, meetings, meetings!

Where do you see Seville Michelle Anastos 5 years from now?

I’m excited for the future.  Nothing I’ve done has been planned, my line has swept me off my feet!

The event was originally scheduled for mid-July until President Obama was distracted by the debt ceiling crisis. This dinner sounds way more important, but to each his own I guess.

Tom Hanks, noted maniac Tom Cruise, noted maniac Madonna, Dakota Fanning, Halle Berry, noted coma victim Katie Holmes, scissor sisters Queen Latifah and Rosie O’Donnell, the Pinkett-Smiths and BFFs Gayle King and Maria Shriver — who had a brave face put on for her last minute as her husband had just admitted that in addition to iron he was pumping the help — all showed up to “surprise” and pay tribute to their queen.

Sidebar: Oprah is omniscient, like all deities, so there was no pulling the wool over those bag-ridden eyes.

Surprise performers included Beyoncé (who had to perform “Run the World (Girls)” twice at the behest of producers), Patti LaBelle and Josh Groban (“Over the Rainbow”), Stevie Wonder and Jamie Foxx (“Isn’t She Lovely,” and Stevie even wrote a new song for Oprah that will no doubt be adopted as our national anthem), as well as Kristin Chenoweth, Alicia Keys, Usher and another queen in her own right, Aretha Franklin, who took everyone to church with “Amazing Grace.”

Someone even let Stedman out of his cage to make a little speech!

And of course what tribute to Oprah would be complete without national treasure and global renaissance woman Dr. Maya Angelou? The 83-year-old offered up a poem to honor O. Luckily a box of tissues was on hand for each audience member, tucked knowingly under their seats.

Oprah clearly doesn’t fuck around and considering these were her second and third-to-last shows, I can only imagine what the final episode will  be: disaster.

Let’s take a look at the Best Dressed of the night. This category has quite a bit of people, as it should, for fashion’s biggest event. These were the As and high Bs, the working girls.

Shalom Harlow is my pick for BEST DRESSED in Marchesa. This is what the Met Ball is all about – she looks breathtaking in that gown.

I almost fell over when I saw Christina Ricci in Zac Posen. She never ages a day and looks super sexy in this sheer number.

I found Mary-Kate’s dress underwhelming, but Ashley Olsen looks ravishing in vintage Dior Haute Couture. The whole look is perfect.

Elle Fanning looks like a little couture doll in Valentino. She is so outshining her sister, it’s not even fair.

Rihanna has been looking haggard lately, so I was pleasantly surprised at how elegant she was in this striking Stella McCartney gown.

Iman, also in Stella McCartney, turned it out in a metallic gold jumpsuit. A little draggy, a lot amazing.

Karolina Kurkova in a spring 2011 Jean Paul Gaultier lace legging-dress creation. If the models can’t do it, who can?

I love this Prabal Gurung gown and funky jewelry on Ciara. White could be difficult to pull off at the ball, but she did it right.

Even though Crystal Renn is too skinny for my taste, she is an absolute vision in Alexander McQueen. I need my hair to look like this.

After getting ready in a Barneys window yesterday, Daphne Guiness showed up in McQueen. Perfect, amazing, stuns.

I loved Ginnifer Goodwin‘s look from the moment  I saw it. Then I realized it was custom Topshop. Damn she makes it look good.

Naomi Campbell looks like the queen she is in custom McQueen. She wears the sedatives well too.

Hamish Bowles looks like a true gentleman in custom McQueen. Love it from head to toe.

I always wait with baited breath to see what Blake Lively is wearing. She obviously did not disappoint in a Chanel toga.

New York’s best couple showed up looking better than ever. Beyonce is working that Emilio Pucci gown like whoa.

Queen Bitch Anna Wintour gave her best smile to the camera and looks like a shiny grandiose statue in Chanel.

On to the Most Boring of the night. On any other occasion, these folks would have looked great (probably). Unfortunately, this also means they’re the Cs of the Met Ball.

I’m sleeping. Zoe Saldana is usually among the best dressed. Why did she choose this boring Calvin Klein for the biggest fashion night of the year?

Leighton Meester is amazing, but she has trouble getting it right. Different shoes and hair would have done this Louis Vuitton dress more justice.

I love this Michael Kors dress on Emma Roberts, but she has the body to wear something more over the top on a night like this.

Madonna, the Material Girl herself, definitely could have done better than this Stella McCartney dress. Pretty, but boring.

I’m actually quite obsessed with this Miu Miu dress Michelle Williams is wearing. But I would wear this to a nice dinner, not a gala.

And now ladies and gentleman, the Worst Dressed of the night. These are the Ds and Fs of the Met Ball, the creme de la creme of mistakes.

ARGH! Christina Hendricks used to dress so well! This Carolina Herrera gown is an unflattering fit and color on her.

Oh dear. Hate to say it Alicia Keys, but it looks like you’re wearing a giant turd instead of Givenchy. Brown jacket AND dress is NOT fly.

Jennifer Lopez looks like a halfway plucked bloody chicken. Matchy-matchy lipstick, bag and Gucci is a no go.

I thought Chloe Sevigny would make McQueen look good, but I was wrong. The hair is awful and the dress fits like she grabbed it off some rack.

Sorry to say it Kate Hudson, but this Stella McCartney is not a cute pregnant lady dress. And whatever is on your head isn’t working either.

Nooooo! In the rush of preparing for the gala, Lucy Liu forgot to get a wax! Oh wait, that’s just her looking blech in Vionnet.

The Grammys really don’t reflect what’s going on in music today therefore they don’t matter. Hell, I can’t remember the last time then was the Grammys did matter?

I am very passionate about fashion and admit that I’m not impressed after many things that build the industry but I appreciate what it seems to be something very rare in Romania – designers down to earth, concerning fashion as a lifestyle, love it and like to talk about it at any time. I don’t see that in the eyes of many local designers but I admit that I was more than impressed with the way of thinking of some of them. Maybe those who have “tasted” many cultures and they smile when they see an passionate person. That’s the way Adriana Marie Quaranto is. An American designer who made me smile when I read every response to my questions and that certainly will impress you, too!

Nicoleta Bujor: What do you want to express with your collection?

Adriana Marie Quaranto: I want to express with my collection the simplicity and inspiration of positive thoughts and how once you change your thoughts, you change the results of your life. We become what we contemplate whether it is good for us or bad for us and I think it is important that people understand
that.

N.B: You had the courage to go to New York and try your luck. How was born this idea?

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
Well, I wanted to be a designer since I was 20, but different life circumstances came my way and my dream was put on hold for a few years. But the moment I saw my opportunity to follow my long time dream, I
took it. When I moved to New York it was actually very spur of the moment. I bought my one way ticket just a couple days before I left. I sold everything I had, broke my lease and packed my clothes and shoes. It was an easy decision because New York has always been the fashion capitol of the world and I knew I needed to plant myself where I wanted to bloom.

N.B: What fashion houses have worked and what things you learned from each?

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
I first worked for a swimwear company called Lila Nikole. I learned an incredible amount there. I am still close friends with the designer to this day. She was definitely a huge inspiration because she was, and still is, doing everything by herself. She sources the fabric, makes the bathing suits, ships them, runs her website, puts on fashion shows, gets magazine editorials, has celebrity endorsements… the list goes on. So when I saw that she was doing this and was successful, I said to myself, my dreams and goals really are possible. It does take a ton of work and all my time. But it is worth every second and I’m so happy she gave the experiences I was exposed to.

I also worked for
Christian Francis Roth which is a cross between contemporary street wear and young Missy. I got to see secret showrooms all around the city and really get a feel for how garments are made. I got to see all of the processes of the business from conception to production which was very rare because most fashion houses outsource everything.

I also
worked for Tory Burch. What a spectacular work environment. The aesthetic was cheerful and stimulating. I really enjoyed working there. The majority of employees were younger maybe late 20′s to late
30′s and every knew their craft and worked hard. It was very inspiring.

I
work for another fashion house, currently, but the name will remain confidential. I love working here because it’s such an mature company but so new at the same time. So it’s great being part of a new concept and fresh ideas with the structure and vision already pinned down. It’s the best of both worlds.

N.B: How did you manage to get to work with such fashion houses?

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
Wow, great question. Most of these were internships. I had to take a step back to take a step forward and I am glad I made that decision. I was basically working night and day just to be in the industry

N.B: How was the Adriana Marie brand born?

Adriana Marie Quaranto: As I mentioned before, I wanted to be a designer when I was 20. But
what really created the idea for the Adriana Marie Brand was my
background on positive thinking, motivation and inspiration. I grew up around this and learned at an early age that our thoughts become our reality. I felt that our society needed to get a dose of this. In school they don’t teach you the fundamentals of life and personal development rather you learn information. But in those early years of grade school, it is fundamental to teach positive personal development and growth. I felt that I had so much to give back to society which was
positive and rich so I combined that with my passion for fashion and created the brand.

N.B: When did you meet first the success with your own brand?

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
I would say that every day I get to touch people’s lives in a positive
way is a success. Every day I am striving to build the name and image of the brand so it’s always a work in progress. A good friend of mine once asked a very important question. She said, “Adriana, how do you measure success”? I said, “By how many lives I touch and by how many people can relate to the message of Adriana Marie and make their life happier because of it. I put my life into this. My heart, sweat and soul are inside each seam, each label and each design.

N.B: How do you get your ideas?

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
My ideas come from my family. They are the ones that have taught me to think for myself, value my beliefs, stand up for what I believe, inspire myself, never give up, continuously be the best person I can be, create my own reality with positive thoughts, and to have faith and hope in something bigger than me. I get most of my quotes from my mom and some of them from my dad and my sister collaborates and brainstorms with me on photo shoots and styling.

N.B: What is your style statement? Define it!

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
My personal style is boho-chic mixed with refined uptown girl. I don’t really have a pin pointed style. I dress differently all the time with many styles. So one day I might be all business and the next day I have on my Adriana Marie tee with a blazer, boyfriend jeans, heels and a scarf. It really just depends on my mood. I wear my heart on my sleeve.

like you. What advice would you give to become a designer in New York?

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
Never give up, keep pushing, stay focused, be passionate about it but also make some time for yourself. 90% of people who fail aren’t defeated, they simply quit. No one is going to make it easy for you. I have been blessed by making connections but not too many people are willing to help. So you have to be ready and determined enough to find the answers on your own.

N.B: What is your biggest dream in fashion?

Adriana Marie Quaranto: My biggest dream is the one I am creating right now! The Adriana Marie Brand will be a household name. We will have licensing for everything from shoes, accessories, cosmetics, bags, men’s, home and more. That is the vision.

Adriana Marie Quaranto: Jennifer Lopez would be my first choice. I have always been a fan and I really respect her drive, dedication, and quest for love. Her natural beauty is the essence of our Brand. Being and feeling beautiful naturally and being comfortable in your own skin. Another would be Alicia Keys, Kim Kardashian, and Reese Witherspoon.

N.B: What are your favorite designers?

Adriana Marie Quaranto: Alber Elbaz for Lanvin. For reasons other than him as a designer. For reasons as him as a person. He is truly a divine man. I would love to meet him and pick his brain and talk about life and love over a cup of tea in France.

I also admire Ralph Lauren for his journey in the
industry. He started off making and selling men’s ties and today he has an empire. This is where Adriana Marie is headed.

N.B: What are the must-have outfits in New York? What carries the most?

Adriana Marie Quaranto: Anything
black. It is always changing but here are the basics… Layers are
great. Goose down coat for winter and rain boots for spring. Shorts and tee shirts for summer with sandals. Sweaters and leggings for fall.

N.B: Do you want to do something else besides t-shirts?

Adriana Marie Quaranto: I want to create a Brand.
Which means, household items, cosmetics, shoes, bags, men’s clothing, children’s clothing and accessories. I want the name Adriana Marie on everything.

N.B: Might you get involved in other projects outside your own fashion brand?

Adriana Marie Quaranto:
Yes absolutely. I am already involved in much more than just my brand. I also am helping create a non profit organization that helps women of Haiti that are victims of domestic abuse, colonialism, industrialism, and natural disaster. We make garments and hold shows to create awareness. All the proceeds of the hand made garments go to the foundation in Haiti.

I have always been involved in charity
events. I run races in support and I even volunteer at dog shelters from time to time. I am a huge believer in giving back to society. That is the basis for the Brand itself.

as much support for Adriana Marie! Always believe in yourself, even when it seems no one else does. Sometimes following your dreams can be a lonely road but in the journey you find comfort in honoring yourself and in time, you will have the people around you that believe in you, and always did.

With all of the hype surrounding Lindsay’s “Fuck You” manicure during her court appearance, it seems to come as no surprise that some people would want to replicate the style. Naomi Yasuda, who has done the nails of Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, and countless other celebrities, says that Lindsay’s tie dye manicure was definitely airbrushed. Here’s a vid of the VMA ‘oops’ that no one cared about. Lil Mama jumped onstage at the end of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance at the end of the VMAs last night, it’s kindof funny because Jay-Z tries to push her out of the way a little bit..no one has really commented on this issue as much as the Kanye one, but there is a Twitter topic going around about it (#lilmamais).
