Happy Day of Birth to Cher Horowitz Alicia Silverstone and her new son Sonny Bear Blu. Okay, Bear, cool name because it makes me think of Bear Grylls, but his middle name is Blu… I wish him luck with adolescence. It doesn’t really matter where you are or where you’re going, what they say is true you can find fashion anywhere, or at least inspiration. From everyday life to the hours of television we might spend watching, throughout time it’s always a good way to go back a couple years and review all the pop-culture and bizarre fashions of our past style movie favorites. Whatever, like, duh I’m going to the midnight showing of Clueless at the IFC Center in the West Village tonight. But you think I’m going to dig through my closet for something to wear? As if! People sometimes ask me who my first fashion influences were as a young girl. I am proud to say my mom and aunt were two of my biggest icons. But as I grew into my wacky character throughout middle school, there were three other ladies I looked to for unique style ideas. Yes my friends, I admit that Cher, Dionne and Amber were my first huge fashion influences. Those Clueless girls would waltz through Beverly Hills in plaid mini skirts, thigh-high socks and marabou everything. My favorite purse- I bought it in honor of my favorite movie and tv show- was lavender patent leather with huge metal zippers and matching wallet on a chain. I carried it for years. So next time you see someone who could appear in the “DONTs,” just ask him or her in the words of Cher, “Do you prefer ‘fashion victim’ or ‘ensembly challenged’?”
