On 4:00 PM on a Friday back in January, Clemons received the call that Lady Gaga wanted him to play on a her new album. He replied saying which days he was available. But no, that’s not how the Haus of Gaga conducts business, “No, she needs you in New York City right now!”. Clemons, being a self proclaimed Gaga-ite, he hopped on a plane from Florida and raced to the studio, where he met Lady Gaga for the first time.

She wanted Hair to have this Springsteen vibe. ”She said ‘we’ll put the tape on and you just play,’” Clemons says. “She said to me, ‘Play from your heart. Play what you feel.’ It was all very pure.”

He’s on that entire track, but just epically solos in Edge of Glory. And thus his stoop sitting cameo in the video will be watched forever.

The scent, La Lopez’s 17th — I hope there’s a FiFi buried somewhere in there — is a “sparkling floral, woody fragrance” that purports to show off the diva’s softer, more sensual side.

Besides shifting uncomfortably in her chair and trying not to burn down the HSN studios for their unflattering lighting, what can viewers expect of J. Lo in those 8 long, grueling hours? “She lives fashion. She sings about and says it’s the most fun thing about getting ready for Idol. Her eyes light up when you ask her what kind of shoes she’s wearing.” So says Tommy Hilfiger, who’s working with La Lopez on her newest line for Kohl’s.

If you remember, in the heady days of Bennifer when Jenny purported she was from the block, she started JLO and its allegedly higher end line, Sweetface. It made sense, she was a bona fide fashion icon, scoring more hits on the red carpet than at the box office.

That dress made Jennifer Lopez’s career — and coincidentally revived Versace which was struggling under Donatella Versace after the death of her brother Gianni three years earlier in 1997 — and propelled her to fashion fame (and infamy).

So it made sense for her of all people to start a fashion line, but she apparently “didn’t understand the business well enough.” Now with a new Hilfiger on board — Andy, Tommy’s younger brother, was J.Lo’s JLO partner — the old girl’s ready to give it another go.

Sure, Kohl’s isn’t a runway in Milan or a luxurious presentation on the French Riviera, but J. Lo’s going to be getting that J. Simps money.* Coupled with her cushy gig on American Idol, a hit dance song (the gays will take anything) and DVD sales from Selena, La Lopez has mounted a comeback!

And I couldn’t be happier.

There are so few real stars left since reality TV and the Internet has ruined fame for everyone (p.s. follow me on Twitter @LesFabian). Sure, she’s not the most talented singer, or actress, or dancer, or fashion designer, but hey — she’s the best at pretending to do all of them. And that’s called star power, kids.

Let’s start with the best of the derby, a hats off to those who tried their very best.

ESPN reporter Erin Andrews has my vote for best dressed at the 2011 Kentucky Derby. Her hat is spectacular, and she looks stunning in black and white. Give me a fitted top with palazzo pants any day.

I’m getting a little drowsy looking at Niki Taylor‘s nude and white outfit, but at least she looks elegant unlike some of the other heathens in attendance. Love the hat, but wish I could barf all over those sandals; they are pretty atrocious.

Look at Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas turning it out on the red carpet! I love that she wore a floral dress and matching pink shoes. I have a hat exactly like hers, and she has inspired me to dust it off and wear it this summer.

This is my favorite type of look for the Derby, and Kate Walsh got it just right. Neutral dress, nipped-in waist, sexy shoes and a single feather hat – Perfection.

Pepa & Salt are out of control, and I adore them. The ridiculous matching hats and dresses are priceless, love seeing them on the carpet together.

Now on to the worst of the derby, examining the “celebrities” that need serious fashion, and perhaps even mental, help.

If Aubrey O’Day was going for best stripper personality, she would have won for Little Bo Peep. But it seems she was trying to look good at the Kentucky Derby, which was a complete fail. I would pick apart the outfit and tell you why this is bad, but that would be wasting everyone’s time. This look is 100 percent awful.

THIS is why American Idol is a bad idea. I actually feel anger towards Jordin Sparks and her terrible outfit right now. Did she stain her dress at the last minute and have to borrow this from one of the horse stables? Or maybe her dry cleaners burned down? Whatever the excuse, apology not accepted.

I dig the fascinator, Maria Menounos, but the dress appears to be crafted with tissue paper by children. I don’t understand this craze with the extremely childish dresses, but it’s really time to grow up.

And here it is, the absolute worst outfit of the 2011 Kentucky Derby. There are dozens of things wrong with Miranda Lambert‘s look, but those cowboy boots should be burned so they never hurt anyone ever again. The slutty saloon girl wants her outfit back, and Lambert better oblige before my corneas combust with utter horror.

How dare the judges bash Haley like that?! And whilst doing Mother Monster’s obvious bidding? Atrocious. The song choice was ballsy and impeccable.

In other Idol news, Jacob went oddly pitchy in the much anticipated No Air, but then took it to church on Love Hurts. James Durbin’s tears for Without You was only matched my my tears of him doing a slight injustice to Harry Nilsson. Though I’m no country fan, when Scotty hits those low panty dropping notes…. well… NO he’s only 16! But he worked that stage last night like a pro.

Meanwhile, Haley closed it down with her heart stopping rendition of House of the Rising Sun. Judges recognize.

- With only three days left to the Royal Wedding, Kate Middleton‘s dress still remains the best-kept secret since the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. If the Royal Family has its way, and it will, we all won’t find out the name of the designer until 11 am GMT, at which point  www.officialroyalwedding2011.org will release the details as Kate saunters down the aisle at Westminster Abbey. I won’t be surprised to find that bin Laden’s been quietly sewing away in his private atelier — a literal hole in the ground — all this time in eager anticipation. [WSJ]

- Adweek has named the “10 Most Successful and Influential Magazines of the Year” and Vogue is nowhere in sight. The rankings were based on a number of criteria such as ad pages, ad revenue, overall circulation, and allegedly a “product quality measurement.”  Considering the 10 magazines chosen (Food Network Magazine ranks #1!) we are a nation of overweight, not particularly stylish, celebrity-obsessed nerds. - Dolce & Gabbana revealed some behind the scenes images of their Fall campaign via Tumblr. Liu Wen, Maryna Linchuk, Constance Jablonski, Monika Jagaciak, Isabeli Fontana, and Kate King will star in the gender bending ads next season. [Modelina]

- Looks like somebody finally made a comeback. Jennifer Lopez has been named by People as the “World’s Most Beautiful Woman,” landing the cover of their annual “Beautiful People” issue. After years of subpar rom-coms and so-so albums, La Lopez has struck gold, not only as an American Idol judge (does anyone still watch that crap?) but as a spokesperson for anything that will have her. From Gucci to Venus Razors, J. Lo is shoving herself down our collective throats, and I couldn’t be happier gagging on her. [People]

- And a Happy Belated Birthday to our favorite creative director and cat lady, Grace Coddington, who turned 70 years young yesterday!

The Swedish superstar’s Body Talk series was one (or rather three) of the best albums to come out last year and her epic ode to the self-samba, “Dancing on My Own” has yet to leave my iPod rotation. It warms what’s left of my heart to see her getting some much-deserved attention, especially after being snubbed this year at the Grammys.

Sidebar: I mean, really, Teenage Dream? But I promised myself I wouldn’t get too upset about it, especially after that incident last year with Taylor Swift.

Joining Robyn in Elle‘s “Music Issue,” out April 12th, will be the Messiah also known as Beyoncé, Florence Welch (of the Machine), hair-whipper Willow Smith, American Idol judge and apparently-still-a-”singer” J. Lo, the baddest bitch in the rap game Nicki Minaj, multi-hyphenate supermom Gwen Stefani, blue-eyed soul songstress Adele, Oscar and Grammy-winner Jennifer Hudson, the incomparable Stevie Nicks and the Queen herself, Aretha Franklin.

That’s quite the line-up and the cover is quite a get for Robyn, who will also be performing April 11th as part of  Elle‘s second annual “Women in Music” event at the Music Box in Hollywood.

So West Coast gays, I expect you all to rally in support. After all, good pop music must be treasured and nurtured like the sequin-clad bird of paradise that it is.

RPDR:3 is basically what happens when you take the bastard child of America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway and American Idol, throw a wig on it and let it run free in size 12 heels on subscription cable.

Last night’s episode, “The Queen Who Mopped Christmas”  introduced us to the 13 queens who would compete for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar.”

Before they could even put down their purses, Ru showed up to give them their first challenge: a photo shoot with super hunky photog  and A-Lister Mike Ruiz. The queens had to jump for their love, posing on a trampoline while making it look both easy and sexy. The winner of the challenge was Raja, a lanky lady whose style will make you go Gaga.

Tyra would be proud.

The contestants were then given $50 and 10 minutes at a thrift store to find pieces that would go into creating their best holigay couture. Amidst a sea of shade and despite a breakdown or two, the queens got their tucks together in time for the runway.

Wilhelmina Slater herself, Vanessa Williams joined PJ Runway alum Santino Rice, Michelle Visage (Ru’s old co-host on 90′s relic, The RuPaul Talk Show) and Mike Ruiz (with guest Santa, Bruce Villanch) to judge the queens on who best embodied the principles of CUNT – Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent.

Raja won again, this time with a look reminiscent of Vivienne Westwood and a walk that would put most supermodels to shame. Meanwhile Venus D-Lite and season 2 cast-off Shangela had to lip-synch for their lives to Vanny Williams’ own “The Right Stuff.”

Things got a little ugly — eyelashes and wigs flying everywhere — and though Shangela was the first to be eliminated the last time she hit the stage, she proved the better woman this time around and Venus had to sashay…away.

Raja is clearly the front-runner for RPDR:3, but my money might be on one Ms. Manila Luzon who gives epic face.

This promises to be a fierce season, full of the backstabbing, weave-pulling and bitch-slapping that the best of reality TV can only aspire to. Welcome back, Ru. And may the best tranny…

Although we did not hear him sing, we did get to hear him say that he is a combination of Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle.

I’m concluding that he was rejected and might be slightly addicted to appearing on reality television.

The next VMAN Magazine is the “How-To” Issue (#17), featuring five of the hottest pop stars, including Justin Bieber, Adam Lambert, Gerard and Mikey Way from My Chemical Romance and Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship. Each pop star was shot by Mark Abrahams, including Bieber, who arrived on shoot after the VEVO launch party still sporting the now famous lipstick mark he received from Rihanna. VMAN #17 does not hit newsstands until January 28, 2010.

I know that guys wearing girls clothes is a huge trend right now, and has been a huge trend for a long time. I know tons of guys that wear girls jeans (I have a friend who stole a pair of my jeans…a guy friend),  and sure, there are still guys out there that think they look better in eyeliner than I do, but really Adam Lambert?  Performance calls for different attire than a regular day, and I know he wants to look like a real “rock star,” but I’m sorry, I can’t get over those mud-colored platform boots. And metal angel wings (or whatever the hell those are)? He’s been said to be the male-version of Lady Gaga, but this look really isn’t new. Just go to a suburban mall and wait outside of Hot Topic, or a nightclub on Industrial Night.  Sorry if you love this look, as I’m sure many girls, and guys, will soon have his posters plastered all over their walls.  I’ll admit the one on the left isn’t that bad, but I am not too crazy about a guy that spends more time getting ready, and getting into his flared (ew)  jeans, than I do.

I don’t know that anyone would ever expect American Idol loser Kellie Pickler to be a “do.” But this has secured her a throne in Fuck-up Land for a good long time.

Pickler walked in last night’s Dressed to Kilt charity fashion show (benefitting the Friends of Scotland organization) looking mad hagged-out.  With all that make-up and ’80s hair, she’s not far behind Pamela Anderson when it comes to hitting the wall — but Kellie’s only 22.  Ouch.

Has anyone noticed that Kanye has been rocking a ton of denim jackets lately? Or maybe it’s the same one. I though the cardinal rule of wearing a denim jacket was that you could NOT wear it with jeans? Well, what do I know, I’m merely a blogger and he designs for Louis Vuitton.

Performing his hit song ‘Heartless’ on American Idol, Kanye rocks the denim jacket, and even has an extra t-shirt in his back pocket in case he needs to change.

Really, REALLY!!! Are those girls really swooning over McPastey Legs there? I’m glad I don’t have a TV, cause performances only let the terrorists win. What sucks is that he’s probably famous now and will continue dressing like he was raped by Dov Charney’s closet.
