Hudson’s emotional performance was one of several poignant moments during the telecast, including Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt paying tribute to the late Etta James and Amy Winehouse‘s parents accepting their daughter’s trophy with Tony Bennett for their duet, “Body and Soul.”

While Adele had to hitch a U-Haul to her limo to take home her six trophies, the Foo Fighters walked away with five including Best Rock Album for Wasting Light while Kanye West won four, including Best Rap Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Best Rap Song for “All of the Lights.”

Last but certainly not least, one Ms. Diana Ross was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, her first Grammy after 800 years in the business. The supreme diva took to the stage in a cloud of hair at the end of the night to present Adele with her Album of the Year award. And while the show featured countless moments that would best be forgotten — I’m looking at you Katy Perry and Taylor Swift — the symbolic passing of the torch from Whitney to Jennifer and Ms. Ross to Adele made this a night to remember.

“The family was upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock,” Papa Winehouse elaborated. “We’re still grieving for her loss, and we’ve had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy’s death. To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on. We’re proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorises [Brit talk] some of the more upsetting times in her life. That’s upsetting for her family.”

Gaultier, for his part, was trying to do right by the chanteuse: ”She was an icon of fashion and truly, the sense of how she mixed the clothes – it was great. It was very Eighties but we did it in a very modern way. It is very joyous.”

Personally, I thought it was a very fitting tribute and it’s not as if LPG had models stumbling out with a bottle of Jack Daniels in their hands. As I would’ve done because I’m a trash bag. Rather, it was a pretty tasteful homage — as tasteful as Jean Paul Gaultier can possibly get —  that I was glad someone in fashion finally made.

Yet, I see Mitch’s point as a grieving father and perhaps a donation to Amy’s charity would have softened the blow. Speaking with the Sun, i.e. the trashiest tabloid on either side of the Atlantic, Mitch vented his righteous indignation, “No one asked us for permission or offered to make a donation to the foundation. This is purely about Gaultier making money, and that’s wrong.” Just sayin’, wouldn’t hurt to open up those purse strings, Jean Paul.

While in the City of Lights, the singer will attend a fancy shmancy dinner to celebrate the cosmetic collaboration as the special guest of Estée Lauder group president and MAC AIDS Fund chairman John Demsey and MAC global president Karen Buglisi. When and how did your line begin?

I launched my accessories line in the Fall of 2010 with a concept design of epaulets.  I created a small collection in different styles and they ended up in the hands of some fashion influentials. I’ve since introduced earrings, bangles and eyewear.

What inspires your work?

I watch a lot of nature documentaries. I’m in love with the beluga whale. I watch the same documentaries over and over.. I’ve seen the Blue Planet series over a hundred times and I now watch Microcosmos fanatically. Have you ever seen ladybugs make love? It’s a fascinating and a gentle experience.

Where do you finding the amazing leathers and animal skins that you use on your accessories?

I buy my leather at the same place that Helmut Lang, Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar De La Renta buy from. Its expensive and the best in the city. Libra Leather. I work with Sam Jones, The Leather Queen. She has great taste and instincts when it comes to leather. Libra Leather has been pioneering leather trends in New York for decades. They provide the selection designers conceptualize their entire leather collection from. They are best in the biz.

The Feather Spray Earrings seem like a big deviation from some of your previous designs. What was the inspiration behind those?

When I launched my line in October 2009 I used feathers in the fabrication of many of those epaulet designs. The feather was lying on my desk at a certain angle and it came to me.. that should be attached to an ear. I guess it’s all the nature videos I watch.

What celebrities have you worked with?

I grew up in NYC so Mary J Blige, Lauryn Hill and Beyonce were the soundtrack of my life. I attended borderline ruff schools and their music was uplifting and their voices strong, I adored them. Now as an adult, this entire experience as a designer has been transcendental for me. I often can’t believe who I’ve turned out to be. Just three years ago I was the most unhappiest girl in the world. I’ve designed for all them. I’ve also created custom accessories for Lil Wayne’s and Prince’s musical tours.. I used to make out with posters of Prince. I’ve designed for Alicia Keys’ Freedom tour.  Lauryn Hill just bought my entire collection for her European tour.

What’s your favorite part about being a designer?

The actual design process is probably my favorite part of being a designer. I often struggle between concept and application.. I’ll think about a construction for months before I even attempt to piece it together.. My own thoughts intimidate me. There is an element of anxiety I experience and I know that I’ll figure it out eventually. There are some designs I’ve constructed, not many, that I will never share with the world. I hoard special pieces.

What are the biggest challenges as a designer?

Figuring out which tradeshows to do make me pretty dizzy.

Three must haves to have in your wardrobe?

Combat boots, a black fur and a balaclava.

What is your best moment that you’ve experienced in your career?

All of them have been extraordinary. Getting picked up by Nordstrom, a tour order from Alicia Keys, selling at Patricia Field and having my mom and dad say that they’re proud of me.

What advice do you have for aspiring designers?

Organize yourself. Have a decent website, take good pictures, get a press list, don’t get tired, get motivated.  Surround yourself with good people that want good for you.  Love yourself and visualize yourself in the place you want to be.

How would you describe your personal style?

My look changes drastically, often. Recently my style is Le Femme Nikita.. assassin chic.

What is the inspiration behind “in love and good fashion” and “good taste must be shared”?

I tend to curate everything. My friends, my wardrobe and words.. I love language and assembling words together.. In Love and Good Fashion fell into place in the first weeks of creating my first collection.. it represents the head set I was in at the time..

Good Taste Must Be Shared is a personal philosophy.. Good taste crosses over into all aspects of living.. food, clothing, jewelry, travel and all of earths spoils.. Everything that is good about anything should be shared and enjoyed.

What’s currently on your iPod?

I don’t have an Ipod but I have been listening to Amy Winehouse, Wu Tang Clan, Florence and The Machine and Lauryn Hill recently.

Describe Mary Had A little Scam and the other short films you are working on based on your line?

I decided to make a short film when the concepts in my head began to move and could only be expressed through video. I’ve watched enough documentaries and films to understand the shooting style I like.  I titled the film Mary Had  A Little Scam to represent the duality between innocence and  a calculated menace. I wanted to create a sexy film that captures the private moments strong women experience when alone.. the awkwardness, paranoia, struggle, uncertainty and ultimate perseverance.  The character Mary in the short film Mary Had A Little Scam has a public persona of  a fierce rebel leader with the American Accessories Coalition for Good Taste (AACGT). Her mission is to collect rare jewelry from around the world, sharing good taste with the masses.

What are you currently working on for your line right now?

I’m preparing a trip to Paris, meetings, meetings, meetings!

Where do you see Seville Michelle Anastos 5 years from now?

I’m excited for the future.  Nothing I’ve done has been planned, my line has swept me off my feet!

Adele is up for the biggest prizes of the night, Album (21), Record and Song of the Year (“Rolling in the Deep”) — I mean, the RIAA might as well just start engraving her name on those golden gramophones now and call it a day. Kanye’s masterwork, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was somehow snubbed for an Album of the Year nod (god save the assistant who had to deal with that fallout), though Ye will go against himself in the Rap Album of the Year category — Watch the Throne, his collaboration with Jay-Z and Fantasy are both nominated.

Rihanna‘s Loud (no comment), Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way, Foo Fighters‘ Wasting Light, and Bruno Mars‘ Doo Wop & Hooligans are also up for Album of the Year. Joining Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and Kanye’s “All of the Lights” (both highly deserving) in the Record of the Year category are Bon Iver‘s “Holocene,” Bruno Mars’ ”Grenade,” Mumford & Sons‘ ”The Cave,” and Katy Perry manages to sneak her way in yet again with “Firework.”

Shockingly absent from this year’s mutual admiration society is Grammy staple, Beyoncé. 4, in my opinion her best solo effort to date, received only one nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Party” — not the video version, but the good one with André 3000. Of course, Queen Bey has 16 Grammys already and she’ll probably be busy giving birth to her alleged baby come Grammy night anyway.  Her chief rival for diva supremacy, one Lady Gaga, only came out with three nods this year, and not even one for music video (if not for “Born This Way,” at least “Judas,” kids).  Meanwhile, late chanteuse and 5-time winner Amy Winehouse garnered a posthumous nomination for her duet with Tony Bennett, “Body and Soul.”

The last category anyone could possibly care about is that combination gift/curse, Best New Artist. Nicki  Minaj is the frontrunner based simply on popularity and record sales, and is the only female solo artist nominated this year. She will face off against Bon Iver, The Band Perry, J. Cole, and Skrillex.

The sale benefits the Amy Winehouse Foundation, an organization the late singer’s parents set up to help kids in need of assistance. ”I can’t put into words how grateful I am to Kerry [Taylor Auctions] and Disaya for their support and hard work,” said Winehouse’s father, Mitch. “We are just over the moon and this is a wonderful start to the foundation. We are off to visit a homeless charity in Euston tomorrow and so the money will go to a good cause straight away.”

Among other items auctioned off yesterday was a beaded fall 2007 Alexander McQueen evening gown — sold for $127,000 — and a replica of Princess Diana‘s wedding dress made by Elizabeth and David Emanuel for Madame Tussaud’s, which sold for $78,300. [WWD]

Amy’s parents started this charity after her not-quite-shocking, but deeply saddening death back in July. Proceeds from the Amy Winehouse Foundation go to helping vulnerable kids do things like not say No No No to rehab.

As for the dress, it was winehouse’s stylist Louise Winwood who sought out the Disaya for the frock, and paired it with the iconic leopard peep toes and red leather belt. Remi gave a few select journalists — our invitation, like everything else, was clearly lost in the mail – a listen to seven of the album’s tracks, based mostly on demos and early takes of songs. Winehouse recorded a reggae version of Ruby & The Romantics’ 1963 classic, “Our Day Will Come” in 2002, while “Between the Cheats” — purportedly about ex-enabler ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil — was recorded six years later.

“Tears Dry” was the first version of Back to Black‘s swinging “Tears Dry on Their Own” recorded in 2005. For “Like Smoke,” rapcon — i.e. rap icon — and one of Winehouse’s favorite artists, Nas, dropped in after the song’s recording to add his verses. Remi also tapped The Roots’ ?uestlove for some percussive accompaniment to “Halftime.”

Closing out the listening session were two covers, “The Girl from Ipamena” and “A Song for You.” Recorded in the singer’s home in London in 2009, the latter track may or may not make the final cut since, according to an Island Records exec, ”It may not be the best song technically.” However, the actual recording of the song was clearly emotional for Winehouse.

“She was just lying down on a couch,” Remi relates, “with the mic in her hand and by about halfway through the song she was crying, really weeping, with makeup running down her face.”

Not included in the preview were “Best Friends,” an early version of “Valerie,” a demo of “Wake Up Alone,” a cover of The Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and Winehouse’s duet with Tony Bennett, “Body and Soul.”

While her record label might try to milk her ghost for all its worth, Remi was adamant about staying true to Amy Winehouse’s legacy, saying “We want this album to be good enough to exist on its own merits….Whether you can hear every lyric on every song or not, you can always hear the emotion there.”

A pathologist discovered that Winehouse’s blood-alcohol level was 416 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood; the level considered lethal, by the bye, is 350 mg per 100mL. Fred Perrywill leave the decision of what to do with Amy’s future collections up to her family but said, in a statement released yesterday:

“We had a great working and personal relationship with Amy during the design and development of the collaboration. Amy’s unique sense of style and attitude pervaded the entire collection. She was a pleasure to work with and will be deeply missed by the entire Fred Perry team.”

She”s a user and an abuser, but she’s also extremely talented. It’s no surprise that she actually could have been good at designing this line for Fred Perry. Her sense of style, which she describes as an “old (Jewish) black man,” is smart and chic, and for the current times, refreshing.

What’s most surprising is that Bryan “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” Adams is not only still alive, but also an alleged photographer. Who knew?

Hopefully this is a big joke, and due to the source it just might be, but British paper the Daily Star is claiming that Amy Winehouse is in talks to launch her own perfume. She would be joining countless celebrities and although I don’t really want to smell like them either, at least they are clean. A namless industry insider seems to agree with me saying: “Frankly, she doesn’t look like she smells that nice, so doing some positive publicity to prove it doesn’t just smell of stale booze and fags would be vital.” Well, I guess if you want to smell like a bum you can begin lining up now. I won’t be joining you, but I was nice enough to pick a flattering picture of Amy.

7. Agyness Deyn- Sometimes I really like Aggy’s hair, sometimes I don’t. This looks a little Warhol, back to the drawing board for this mop-top

8. Carrot Top- I know it’s natural, but this is a little too carrot-y and disheveled.  And wtf is up with his eyebrows?

9. Celebrity sons that look like daughters- Cindy Crawford’s son is literally the most beautiful kid I’ve ever seen, but his hair makes him look like a girl. Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker’s sons also look like they could be daughters. Haircuts, please.

10. Betsey Johnson- I love her designs, but have always hated her hair. 

11. Robert Pattinson- Not my choice, I love him and his crazy hair, but I do agree, it’s a little too talked about.

12. Rihanna- Time for a new hairstyle, please. I still like it, I always liked it, but it’s getting old.

13. Victoria Beckham- She pioneered the bob, but that was years ago.

14. Katie Holmes- Same story as the two above. Moving on.

15. Zac Efron- The surf look is a little too grown out for Zefron, just a little bit shorter, please.

16. Brett Michaels- I’m not sure what bothers me more, the fact that Brett Michael’s lips look like a woman, or that I can’t wear a headband or scarf around my head without being called Brett Michaels.

18. Katy Perry- I loved Katy Perry’s hair long and curled. Grow it back out!

19. Adam Lambert- I know he’s trying to be the epitome of a ‘rock star,’ but scene kid hair is very 2006.  He probably takes longer to straighten and tease his hair than I do to shower and put on a full face of makeup.

20. J.Lo- Everyone’s saying it’s a wig, what do you think?

Amy Winehouse has been told to keep her clothes on. Apparently, she’s been enjoying some streaking while on vacation/extended rehab/downward spiral. It should be illegal to look so crackish when you’ve got her moneys.

RUMOR ALERT! RUMOR ALERT! AND I AIN’T TALKING ABOUT THAT UGLY CHIN WITH THE LAST NAME WILLIS EITHER! There are rumors swirling that Kris Van Assche is getting the boot from Dior Homme after his consistently poor performance over the course of the past couple seasons. Who is he rumored to be replaced by? Well if you’re that slow and haven’t realized that all the buzz is pointing to the Men’s “IT” designer of the year Gareth Pugh, then just stop reading this now and head towards the kitchen for a knife and begin cutting slowly.

Since the hype around Pugh is swirling without any signs of dissipation, Dior Homme is apparently bringing him in for some consulting work, thus resulting in the departure of Van Assche. Word has it that the rumors began when the daughter of LVMH owner Bernard Arnault was spotted front row at the Pugh show. 

It was also said that Pugh’s show this season was his “audition” for the job. If this is the case Van Assche has the same chance of keeping his job as Amy Winehouse does at getting sober.

Could this be the resurrection of Dior Homme? Let’s hope so!

It kind of looks like what Amy Wineshouse would look like if she was forced to do her hair in space while freeballing hits of acid. The acid wouldn’t really have too much of an affect on her doo, but I’m guessing the zero G environment might.

Christian Siriano released magnificent product, taking his spot as a candidate for fashion’s future but this season’s Project Runway sucked man-berriez like eager back alley prostitwats.

Fashion Indie’s Fashion Week Brooklyn was the toast of New York but Marc Jacobs continued to flash bystanders that malnourished little peen from under his crushed velvet man skirt………..NYPD did nothing, PIGS!

Daniel Saynt and Rebecca Alexander joined in matrimony, filling the world with love and beauteously raunchy married relations but Spencer and Heidi threatened us with the possibility of producing offspring, filling the world with fear and horror, sending some into suicidal fits of madness.

Sasha Fierce killed in Grace Jonesesque chic but made stinky poo glitter all over music.

Kanye West pushed the limits of urban fashion but Kanye West pushed the limits of urban fashion…………..and yes he’s still ‘IGNANT’, his brain’s still in his ass!

Fashion Indie got more awesome-er but Annie Wintour is still in power devouring the souls of our young, all whilst enjoying high tea.

Oh Amy Winehouse, when will you realize no one cares anymore? If you remember a couple months ago we had the When Will Amy Winehouse Die? post in which the members of Fashion Indie guessed when this walking mummy would spare us all and call it quits. Well in an exciting turn of events, Amy has been put on suicide watch after she was caught with a knife to her chest saying she wanted to kill herself. Though none of us had her going quite so soon, I will say my Halloween guess is starting to look rather positive. Of course we would never wish death upon someone, the end seems inevitable for Amy, especially when she recently shared her aspirations of dying young like the infamous Sid Vicious.
