The 2012 SAG Awards took place last night, and our applause goes out to all the big winners. As always, we were super excited to see what everyone was wearing on the red carpet from the couture dresses to the 6-inch high stiletto platforms. See what all the Screen Actors Guild talent wore to the awards in our gallery after the jump.

Hollywood’s wildest night was a bit on the tame side as the 2012 Golden Globes lapsed into occasional coma. Host Ricky Gervais was more well-behaved and seemingly less drunk this year than last — a bad decision on both counts — though there was some well-played shtick regarding Jodie Foster‘s Beaver. The stars, however, came prepared with their own jokes with the best comeback of the night courtesy of Best Original Song winner, Madonna. After being introduced by Gervais, Madge quipped: “If I’m just like a virgin, Ricky why don’t you come over here and do something it? I haven’t kissed a girl in quite a few years…” A collective snap arose from the Beverly Hilton after the Material Girl dropped that sass bomb, though to be fair, she’s been on a roll as of late. The rest of the night was a series of mild shock — mostly thanks to Angelina Jolie‘s ~~inspiring~~ scary skeletal frame — and even milder surprises thanks to a few upsets in the TV category where shows no one watches nabbed some of the top prizes while in the film category. No one was shocked, however, when Meryl Streep won Best Actress in a Drama, except Meryl Streep, who garnered another Globe for that reaction on her way up to accept for The Iron Lady. Sugar Lips: How To Make A Homemade Lip Plumper

Let’s just say that not everyone is gifted with Angelina Jolie or Rosie Huntington Whitley status genes aka big plump lips! And although you could go to your local make up department in your town why not take the next two steps and six simple household ingredients to make your very own personalized lip plumper!

Things You Will Need:

Cinnamon leaf oil
Aquaphor
Liquid Niacin (Vitamin B3)
Liquid Vitamin B6
Liquid Cayenne pepper (aka “Capsician”)
Clove oil
A clean, empty lip gloss pot

1. Use Aquaphor as a base, or carrier, for the balm. Squeeze a decent amount of it into the pot and add five to six drops of cinnamon leaf oil to your base. Cinnamon leaf oil is responsible for the ‘burn’ that you feel, which in turn plumps up your lips.

2. Then, add all of the active ingredients. Mix in a few drops of liquid Niacin, or Vitamin B3, a few drops of liquid Vitamin B6, one drop of liquid cayenne pepper(be careful, a little goes a long way!), and clove oil. Mix thoroughly and boom!

Human After All: Angelina Jolie Shows Her “Silly” Side for Marie Claire

Angelina Jolie covers the January issue of Marie Claire with her usual sultry stare, but breaks out a few goofy faces — while still looking frustratingly gorgeous — for Alexei Hay‘s camera, proving that beneath that movie star exterior and those brittle bones beats an actual human heart. Or at least a reasonable facsimile.

Alison Edmond handled the styling duties, though according to fashion director Nina Garcia, Edmond didn’t have that much work to do: “[Jolie] is the utter professional,” Garcia told New York Mag. “[She's] opinionated, she knows what she likes and what she doesn’t like…Very simple and classic shapes.” Cut to some Salvatore Ferragamo pajamas, an Elie Saab dress, and a DKNY slip and we’ve got an editorial.

The Photoshop Is Closed: New Tool Measures Amount of Airbrushing

Photoshop can work wonders. Miracles really. How else can you explain Kristen Stewart appearing almost human and nearly interesting in W‘s September issue? But as much as it can be used for good, Photoshop is more often used for evil; subtly — and sometimes blatantly — erasing the imperfections of models and celebrities. Now that a computer science professor at Dartmouth has introduced a new software tool to distinguish, on a scale from 1-5, how much a photo has been altered — your tax dollars hard at work — is this the end of Photoshop fakery?

Remember that time the UK banned Julia Roberts’ Lancôme ad for tryng and failing to convince us that the Oscar winning actress hadn’t been Photoshopped into oblivion? The Brits, it seems, don’t care to turn a Botoxed cheek to computer-generated enhancement; nor do the French and the Norwegians. Feminist legislators from those European superpowers — and Norway — want all digitally-altered images to be labeled to avoid giving girls the wrong impression.

It was exactly this impression that the American Medical Association wanted to protect when it passed a policy in June to “discourage the altering of photographs in a manner that could promote unrealistic expectations of appropriate body image.” But was this enough? Would that stomp the scourge of rampant Photoshop mutilation?

Enter the dashing Dr. Hany Faid, riding up on his microscope of justice, his pristine lab coat effortlessly billowing in the wind. Along with PhD student Erica Kee, Faid enlisted hundreds of people to compare before and after photos (see below) and then determine the level of digital alteration on a scale from 1-5. They then used this research to train the software to mimic human perception.

Faid hopes this tool will be used to regulate and reduce retouching. He suggests, “Models, for example, might well say, ‘I don’t want to be a 5. I want to be a 1.’” Perhaps this new breakthrough will prevent anymore unfortunate airbrush mishaps and won’t result in the complete devastation of the women’s magazine industry. [NYT]

Hedy Lamarr: Orgasm Pioneer, Hollywood Bombshell, Wartime Inventor

They just don’t make movie stars like they used to. The Elizabeth Taylors of the world are all gone and we’re left with the Lindsay Lohans, the Bradley Coopers and the occasional Angelina Jolies, sandwiched somewhere between the Snookis and the Kim Kardashians. But back in the good ole days of the Hollywood studio system, you couldn’t throw a tantrum without hitting a genuine movie star. And that star could legitimately sing, dance and act — none of that half-assed Jennifer Lopez business. In the case of Hedy Lamarr, not only she was a gorgeous screen siren — but she escaped the Nazis, was the first woman to simulate an orgasm on-screen and basically invented the basis for Bluetooth. Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan can’t stay out of jail long enough to simulate a career.

In his new book, Hedy’s Folly: The Life and Breakthrough Inventions of Hedy Lamarr, the Most Beautiful Woman in the World, Richard Rhodes dips his quill into the actress’ inkwell of kookery to detail her long-neglected contributions to modern science…and badassery.

At 18, Lamarr starred in 1933′s Ecstasy, a highly controversial Czezh film featuring a nude Lamarr and filmdom’s first depiction of a female orgasm. Around that time, Lamarr unhappily married an Austrian arms dealer — it’s just something you do once breaking down sexual taboos before hitting legal drinking age. The Austrian arms dealer husband would invite Nazi generals over for a little tea and tyranny where they would discuss weapons — and Lamarr eagerly listened.

Perhaps not too keen on being a Nazi war bride, the time came for Hedy to escape her marriage. She claimed she dressed up as a maid and jumped out the window to freedom, but in truth she hopped a steamer that had one of the most, if not the most influential man in Hollywood at that time — MGM’s Louis B. Mayer. By the end of the trip, she had a seven-year, $3000/week contract with the studio. Sure it’s no $20 mil per film, but that was big money then…hell, it ain’t that bad now.

According to Rhodes, Lamarr “was keenly aware of the coming war. She was glued to the newspaper, reading the stories. … When German submarines began torpedoing passenger liners, she felt at that point, ‘I’ve got to invent something that will put a stop to that.’ ” Along with the avant-garde composer George Antheil, she conceived and patened a frequency-hopping torpedo guidance system in 1942. Seven years later Hedy accomplished another equally-impressive feat when she won the Sour Apple Award for Least Cooperative Actress at the now defunct Golden Apple Awards.

Antheil and Lamarr gave their invention to the U.S. Navy, which was openly unimpressed. Those swarthy sailors buried the invention for a while and the patent eventually expired. Then in 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Navy resurrected George and Heddy’s idea, but by then Antheil had already died. Finally in 1997, Lamarr was recognized by the Electronic Frontier Foundation — she died three years later at age 86.

Although Lamarr doesn’t enjoy the same level of esteem given to many of her contemporary movie stars, her frequency-hopping invention is the basis for a lot of wireless technology including WiFi, cell phones and Bluetooth. When you think of “supermodel,” you can’t help but think of The Big 3. Or The Super Six. Or my favorite grouping, The Legion of Doom. Spawned from the decadence of the 80s, these gals became more than supermodels — they became divas. From Linda Evangelista refusing to wake up for less than $10,000 a day to the phone-throwing, blood diamond-wearing, catwalking behemoth known as Naomi Campbell, there have never and will never be supermodels the likes of these ladies. Yet their dominance over the zeitgeist was short-lived as they were replaced in the mid-90s by a series of bland waifs whose personalities would not detract from the clothes, i.e. they got knocked from their high horse. But you can’t keep a good super down and they are as in demand today as they were 25 years ago.

Fashion producer Chico Lowndes curated the exhibition that will feature 30 large-scale works and 30 original Polaroid shots from Klein’s collection. Among the pieces include images of Madonna, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Tom Ford, and Justin Timberlake.

The Iguatemi Photo Series is a cultural initiative sponsored by Iguatemi Sao Paulo and part of the largest chain of luxury shopping centers across Brazil, that aims to present the public with photography that goes beyond their typical mindset. on. Iguatemi Photo Series at MuBE has previously sponsored works by artists such as Guy Bourdin, David LaChapelle, & John Rankin.

The exhibition will run from Aug 11^th-28^th.

Forbes Ranks Hollywood’s Most Overpaid Actresses

Forbes Magazine, which clearly has nothing better to do than feed into society’s insatiable appetite for celebrity by enumerating their incomes based on conjecture, scientific (I’m guessing) estimates and good ole hearsay, has come out with its list of “Hollywood’s Highest Paid Actresses.” The list, which reads like a “Really? Her?” of A-list “talent,” is topped by supermom and noted bare-faced adventurer Angelina Jolie who ties with the “actress” formerly (and forever) known as Carrie Bradshaw, one Ms. Sarah Jessica Parker. Angelina Jolie Eschews Glamour, Shoes for Louis Vuitton

Angelina Jolie‘s latest ad for Louis Vuitton is not your usual “actress as the face of” campaign. She’s in Cambodia, wearing her own clothes, not wearing a shoe or a stitch of make-up (I’ll believe that one when I see it) and she’s carrying her very own LV bag, which isn’t even in production anymore.

The new ad, shot by Annie Liebovitz and debuting this Wednesday, is part of Vuitton’s “Core Values” campaign. Starting in 2007, “Core Values” attempts to reach a broader audience while emphasizing the luxury brand’s travel roots.

Other celebrities that have showed their values for Louis V include Sean Connery, Keith Richards, Bono and Catherine Deneuve. Jolie’s ad will run for at least 18 months and will include an interview online at louisvuittonjourneys.com/cambodia in which she will talk about Cambodia, the plight of the Third World, blah, blah, blah — I get it, you’re better than all of us.

Meanwhile, it looks like LV basically shelled out a reported $10 million just to hang out with Angelina Jolie on a wooden boat in the middle of nowhere. An “undisclosed portion” of which, naturally, went to charity. [WWD]

9. A pair of Louboutins I lifted from FI‘s Editor-in-Chief Sam Lim. Barring the fact that I’m about six shoe sizes bigger than she is, Sam’s long hours in the line at the Christian Louboutin sample sale should be celebrated. Celebrated with a unbearably painful walk-off.

RED CARPET REPORT CARD, CANNES EDITION: Angelina Jolie in Versace

Okay, don’t panic, Angelina gets an A for the way she looks in this dress, 100 percent. But, I am a little thrown off by the shoes and hair. I think a lighter shoe would have worked better, and I am really wishing for bigger, more dramatic hair. Absolutely not opposed to her wearing it down with this dress, but it could have a little more volume to balance out her skirt.

Iconic Fashion Mag Egoïste Debuts 16th Issue in 34 Years

Founded in 1977 by 26-year-old French eccentric Nicole Wisniak while living in her bed at her parents’ apartment and rolled out every few years since, Egoïste finally returns with Keira Knightley on the cover of issue Number 16.

Knightley is just one of two cover stars, the other being James Thíerrée, a French performer who counts Charlie Chaplin and Eugene O’Neil as antecedents. The current issue — well, really the only issue since the last Egoiste with a naked Natalia Vodianova on the cover came out 5 years ago — also features a wide range of interviews and collaborations from Roman Polanski, Beth Ditto, Diane von Furstenberg, Yoko Ono and others.

Besides coming out when it damn well feels like it, Egoïste is different from other mags in that all of the ads therein are the brainchild of its kooky editor, Wisniak, who now works from her own bed in her Parisian apartment.

To wit, the ad for Louis Vuitton sounds better than whatever they’re planning with Angelina Jolie:

The Louis Vuitton ad took Wisniak and her deputy, Eleonore Therond, a full year to create. It features a lost polar bear on an adventure with a monogrammed Louis Vuitton trunk. He embarks through the tundra with it; clings to it like a buoy in frigid waters, eventually finds shelter on a boat bound for civilization—and then, trunk in hand, crashes onto the stage of a lecture given by Al Gore on the perils of global warming.

A true rarity in fashion, in publishing and just in the pace of the modern world, Egoïste has become a collector’s item with the December 1977 issue featuring Mick Jagger recently selling on eBay for $1,100. In collaboration with artist Dean Landry, Anna Sui has created the “Japan We’re All in This Together” tee for men (in black) and women (in lavender). Both sell for $20 each and will begin shipping April 15th. All proceeds go to Japan Relief Effort.

Rebecca Minkoff will donate $100 from each sale of their red handbags to the Red Cross while deciding on a “larger initiative.” The bags range form $295 to $495.

For the Brits, Simeon Farrar is giving away a free Kate Mouse T-shirt if you donate at least £20 to Save the Children by the end of March. To put this into context, there’s been a 300 person waiting list for the tee since December.

Tory Burch‘s Japan Relief T-shirt retails for $29 with all proceeds going to the Red Cross through Sept. 15th.

Monocle and Brooklyn Tokyo are releasing a special edition Support Japan Bracelet for £10 or $18 USD with 100% of the proceeds going to Japan’s Civic Force, a non-government organization that responds to domestic humanitarian disasters.

How to Wear Green on St. Patrick’s Day (without Looking Like a D-Bag)

St. Patty’s Day is tomorrow which means three things: 1.) Dave & Buster’s is going to have their busiest day of the year 2.) My own all-day drunkeness will be masked if not completely eclipsed by everyone else’s and 3.) There will be a sea of green flooding the streets…followed by a sea of vomit. Sure, the Irish have only so much to be proud of* — a potato famine and Bono, I mean, I get it — so they want to show off their pride the only way they know how: by wearing head-to-toe green and getting sloshed beyond comprehension. I’m all for that. But there are ways to wear green — even in a head to toe fashion, which, not gonna lie to ya is tricky and best left to the masters. How many ways, you ask? Let’s say 5…and discuss.

1. Accessorize. Sometimes subtlety goes a long way. But it never really goes long enough, so if you choose to wear a simple green pin or earrings, make them as fabulous as possible. After all, thousands of leprachauns died to make this holiday possible…that is what St. Patty’s is all about right? The St. Patrick’s Day Massacre of 17-whatever?

2. Layer. March is a notoriously tricky month to dress for because it’s torn between two seasons. It’ll be 60 degrees one day and will snow the next — this kooky global warming. So a good trick is layering. Bundle up for the cold morning, shed a few layers for the afternoon sun and reapply after sundown. For St. Patrick, stagger your green for when you stagger out of the nearest tavern or pub.

3. Mix Shades. There are as many shades of green as there are voices floating around in Charlie Sheen‘s head: emerald, chartreuse, turquoise, forest, hunter, neon, lime, jungle, kelly, mint…and in listing them it’s clear that they all have the gayest names possible. So why not mix a little kelly with a little spring bud and top it off with a shock of marijauana. That’s not technically a shade of green, but it’s my favorite kind, nonetheless.

4. Patterns. The more green you incorporate into your look, the more inventive you have to get. And thus, the more fun! Throw different patterns together: prints and polka dots, stripes and stars, this and that, etc. It’s totally easy to O.D. on too many patterns, however, so in these situations it’s best to follow Coco Chanel‘s simple rule: remove one item before leaving the house. And since it’s St. Patty’s, that item can easily be your panties. Just sayin’…makes things a lot easier come nightfall.

5. Go Big or Go Home. You know how I said how tricky it was to pull off head to toe green? Well when in doubt, fair people of Ireland (and I really mean fair — it’s like the Irish are literally allergic to the sun), look to national heroine Scarlett O’Hara. She needed to make a statement so she just took down some old curtains and sewed them into a gown (or rather, had her maid take down some old curtains and sew them into a gown). Sure, the gown bordered on bad taste but isn’t that what the holidays are all about? Getting drunk, embarrassing yourself, your friends, your family and then laughing it all off so no one suspects your rampant alcohol problem? So, wear those goofy green beer glasses and those goofy green top hats and those goofy green athletic jerseys — let your d-bag flag fly! Bad taste is a look that the Irish have been pulling off – and pulling off better than anyone — for centuries. Celebrate it.

Mila Kunis has stepped out from behind the voiceover and back into the spotlight to remind us why Ashton Kutcher‘s character got it on with her for so many years on That 70′s Show. Miss Black Swan understudy, you are number 2.

Numbero Tres is hands down the hottest mom on television. Sofia Vergara flaunts her assets, like that Colombian accent, on Modern Family once a week. Men are turning their TV on in droves every Wednesday night for at least a couple of large, well placed reasons.

The rest of the results may surprise you. Scarlett Johansson dropped to number 7, and men love her. I mean, have you seen, like, every other issue of GQ? Emma Watson ranked #17, which is amazing for a girl who’s just played Hermione Granger for a decade. And can you believe that Angelina Jolie didn’t even make the top 20? So, the Top 99 Women (of ?) have been judged. Men can still go on and decide whether these ladies deserve to be moved up or down on the list. Let’s see if anything changes.

Welcome to the Red Carpet Report Card, Golden Globes addition. So many dresses, so little time to grade them all. First, let’s take a look at the best dressed of the night.

My best dressed choice was tied between three different beautiful ladies, but Anne Hathaway stands just a bit above the other two in Armani Privé. For a tall beauty with perfect curves like this, a structured shoulder is the best thing you can do for your body. She looks so graceful and statuesque in these beautiful rose sequins.

The back is to die for. It’s provocative, feminine and lovely. Anyone else, I would have said the hair should be worn up, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Anne looks. She is a goddess. She gets an A+.

Green was the color of the night, and no one wore it better than Angelina Jolie in Versace. Again, we’re seeing a beautiful padded shoulder that opens up the back and draws attention to her tiny waist. She looks glamorous without that “going to prom” nod that so many celebrities decided to do. I love the top to bottom sparkles and her elegant and unfussy hair. Grade A.

Now let’s talk about a big chest. Scarlet Johansson has a gorgeous, very voluptuous rack, and this dress enhances in a different way. Instead of spilling her cleavage all over the red carpet, Scarjo chose this demure and elegant Elie Saab gown in a lovely dusty pink. I commend Leighton Meester for trying to take fashion risks, but lately they’ve been backfiring hardcore. I was pleased to see her looking so elegant and sophisticated in Burberry Prorsum on the red carpet last night. Her makeup is absolutely gorgeous and those Jimmy Choo shoes are fab-o-rama. It’s not my favorite, but I do love the dress and her. B

I’m not used to putting Eva Longoria in the best dressed category for her red carpet looks, but she looked ravishing last night in a fitted, black Zac Posen gown. What I Learned from the Golden Globes

Last night’s Golden Globes ceremony was a master class in awards show etiquette, or rather, the lack-thereof. Between the magnums of champagne on each table, host Ricky Gervais‘ ever-present glass of beer and the air of forced pleasantries, the Beverly Hilton was teetering on the verge of a knock-down drag out brawl all night. Somehow everything managed to go off without a hitch, and along the way some wisdom was imparted.

1. Ricky Gervais will never be asked to host anything ever again, short of a Bar Mitzvah on Long and/or Staten Island. Gervais’ brilliant and acerbic monologue had me in stitches, but you don’t make fun of Angelina Jolie, Scientology and Cher and expect to get away with it. What made Gervais opening monologue and openly drunken interludes so great was the fact that he was spot-on. But as Hollywood has proven time and time again, it takes itself far too seriously.

2. Michelle Williams might actually stand a chance at the Oscars. Front-runners Natalie Portman and Annette Bening both took home Best Actress (Drama and Comedy, respectively), however, the Oscars don’t separate performances by genre. Portman and Bening have been splitting the awards down the middle this awards season, leaving me to wonder if Michelle Williams might just slip in should they divide the Academy’s vote. Or, even better, what if there was a tie à la Kate Hepburn and Babs Streisand in 1969?

3. Peg Bundy is amazing. There’s nothing I love more than seeing an actor or actress finally get her due. Katey Segal is perhaps best known for her role as Peg Bundy on classic 90s sitcom, Married…with Children, in addition to 8 Simple Rules and as the voice of Leela on Futurama. In short, she’s been working her ass off for years with little to no recognition. So when she won Best Actress in a Drama for Sons of Anarchy, I couldn’t help but feel not only happy but proud of that leopard-print spandex-wearing, big-haired, chain-smoking angel from on high. 4. Glee is the best thing to happen to the gays since the birth of Liza. Best Supporting Actresses, Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch delivered two of the best acceptance speeches of the night; the former a heartwarming and inspiring message to gay teens and the latter a comedic tour de force ending with Lynch thanking her wife and kids. When Glee finally won Best Comedy, you could just hear all the little gays around the country squeal in pitch-perfect delight.

5. Robert DeNiro can continue making Meet the Fockers movies til he dies. Watching the montage of Bobby DeNiro’s films over the past 40 years (which for some reason included The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle), I was reminded how prolific and amazing an actor he is. His legacy will remain in tact with such films as Mean Streets, The Godfather – Part II, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The Last King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Cape Fear and Casino. Hopefully time or excessive drinking will erase the past 15 years or so from our collective conscience.

Broad Shoulders & Sparkles Win at The Golden Globes

My favorite look of the evening came by way of Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway: each a sparkling tower topped with broadening shoulders. The emerald vision of Atelier Versace on Angelina gathers at the waist for a 30′s reminiscent silhouette, while Armani Privé on Anne Hathaway gets it straight all the way down. Long, luminous dark tresses lay over the shoulder, down, sleek like the dresses themselves. Perhaps it’s a dark-haired siren kinda thang. From the front they look perfectly demure, but from the back…

…it’s more of a seductive story. The hint of back from Angelina is enough for us to see her inked stripes of words. The deep, almost bum-baring scoop from Anne Hathaway gives us a hint the skin she shows in Love and Other Drugs. Both the dress and the film done in sexcellent taste.

Leighton Meester attempted the look in Missoni, but didn’t nail it quite like Anne & Ange. It’s almost there, but the shoulders only half commit to the broadness, and the lack of glimmer leaves her less than luminous. The muted neutrals wash her out on the carpet, and I vote open back over thigh high slit.

Obviously, the ridiculously good-looking couple can’t keep their hands off each other.

“We were at a party the other day at my mum’s house and I was sitting on his lap. We’re very affectionate,” Victoria recently told Marie Claire. “And I looked at him and thought after being married for 11 years! We were the only couple who were even near each other at that party. We’re soulmates.”

Seems like the Hollywood Foreign Press couldn’t help but steal the Critics’ Choice Awards thunder and announced the nominees for the 2011 Golden Globes a day afterwards. Let’s delve into what may or may not be the best in film of 2010.

Despite scathing reviews and dysmal box office returns, The Tourist and Burlesque were both nominated for Best Picture – Musical/Comedy, which just goes to show you that…actually I’m not really sure at all what that goes to show anyone. Other nominees include Alice in Wonderland, Red and The Kids Are All Right, which has already won by default.

Both Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were nominated for Best Actor and Actress, respectively, in the same genre, however Cher is conspicuously absent. Now, who does the HFPA think they’re fooling? They can nominate Depp and Angie for sleepwalking through a movie no one saw, but snub Cher after wielding a crowbar in her first film in over 7 years? Someone call the AARP, the Globes are abusing a senior citizen.

Elsewhere, the Globes mirror the CCAs in their unabashed hard-on for Black Swan, The Social Network and The King’s Speech, each receiving multiple nominations in the acting categories, as well as a nomination for Best Picture – Drama. They’re joined in that auspicious category by Inception and The Fighter, with Danny Boyle‘s 127 Hours mysteriously snubbed.

The flick’s star, James Franco, is however nominated and released a statement to MTV about how “grateful” he is. And he also released a statement to Matt Lauer of the Today show about his love of texting pictures of fat animals.

I’m seriously excited about his various award speeches in the coming months.

Marky Mark Walhlberg (The Fighter) replaces Jeff Bridges in the competitive Best Actor – Drama category, otherwise, the nominees are exactly the same as the Critics’ Choice. Meanwhile, the nominees in the Best Actor – Comedy section will be getting drunk on the free champagne while Johnny Depp chuckles to himself at getting nominated twice for essentially the same character he’s been playing for the past 15 years.

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that the race to watch this year is Best Actress. Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lawrence all re-scored the nomination, with Halle Berry somehow sneaking into the Drama category. Annette Bening has already engraved her name on the Best Actress – Comedy trophy, as her only real competition coming from her Kids Are All Right co-star, the incredible Julianne Moore.

When Angelina Jolie showed up to her fitting for The Tourist with her tootsies in Salvatore Ferragamo, costume designer Colleen Atwood immediately declared Ferragamo exclusive shoe designer for the film. That’s how a polished metal stiletto pumped Angelina walks on water in Venice.

Salvatore’s streamlined shoe shows up in kid leather, luxury suede, sequins, satin, platformed and in muted tones that reflect the antiquity of Venice. Ferragamo has sculpted a shoe most befitting of a jet setting undercover secret agent, which is probably why Angelina already owned them. The new versions are available under her Tourist guise “Elise.”

Seems like every celeb is getting her Hillary Clinton on and wearing pantsuits lately.

Leighton looks pretty cute with the taper trousers and slightly undone tie, but Winona went a little masculine for a look that was totally asexual and Halle’s suit was a little too…tragic. As for Kate Winslet, let’s just say the picture with her arm around Michelle Williams feels very right. Ellen Barkin went for a classically tailored suit paired with a deep blue top that was flattering, if not too flashy, and Ms. Jolie rounds out the group of suited ladies in a tame black velvet pantsuit and sequined top. All in all, we think that women’s power suits are a tricky thing to pull off, but with the right fit and a little sex appeal, ladies, you can work it.

Ms. Rai has been inspired by the people and culture of her extensive travels. The International influence has helped her to create her laid-back and edgy collection. The bohemian touches and humor of her collections have made fans of Halle Berry, Ricky Martin and Angelina Jolie.

Mariana Leung had the opportunity to ask Kiran about her design and work philosophy:

MsFABulous: What piece of the collection is your personal favorite for the upcoming season?

Kiran Rai: My favorites are the “I’m Free” Peacock Caftan, and the Tie Dye Wrap in pink. The caftan is a wardrobe staple; it’s flattering to all body types and is wearable all year round. I was inspired by the Rolling Stones in this collection, and this pattern evoked their “I’m Free” hit for me. The Tie Dye Wrap in pink is hot; it’s got the same softness our wraps are known for, but the pattern and color lend it some edge for the Fall season.

MsF: Plenty of celebrities have enjoyed the carefree elegance of your pieces. Is there one in particular that you feel embodies your style philosophy the most?

KR: Julia, Julia, Julia! Everything about Julia Roberts is true to our style philosophy. Her style, her SMILE, her timeless beauty, and her love of India.

MsF: The global soul of the Satya Rai collection seems to be right on point with the spirit of upcoming Eat, Pray, Love movie. Where is the most inspiring place you have traveled yourself?

KR: India is hands-down the most inspiring…and funny enough, Italy is my second favorite! I understand Elizabeth Gilbert choosing the countries she did for her journey. India is my motherland, and I lived outside Milan in Lugano in boarding school. They both hold different inspiration for me: Italy means love, fun, food and wine, and in India, I find bravery, peace, color…and it’s always a different journey.

MsF: The commitment statement on your website states “You can feel good that the clothes you buy today are helping enrich the lives of the people who helped make them”. So few fashion consumers ever pause to think about the human beings who make the product they wear. Can you tell us a little about the people you employ to make your collection?

KR: Two words: HAPPY, and RESPECTFUL. I have the best crew; they’ve been with me forever, and they really do embody our truth…both in their personal and professional lives.

MsF: Your label’s message is one of peace and wisdom. Rare for the often cut-throat world of high-fashion. What is your personal mantra for navigating the stressful garment industry?

KR: BREATHE…when I can!
