So technically Katsuhiro Ôtomo‘s 1988 anime isn’t a “film”. Worse still, it’s an anime movie. But this cartoon’s got it all: double-breasted suits, 1970s Tom Verlaine/Richard Hell get-ups, and lots of stuff for the leather daddies out there. This Film Friday, let’s take a look at Akira.

Singer Ayumi Hamasaki has been named the Asia “image character” for Rimmel London. I’m assuming that “image character” is just another way of saying she’s the new face of the brand. But maybe not, maybe it’s some subdue dig that Hamasaki looks a bit like a real life Anime character.

Remember back in the day when carrying a purse that looked like your dog Fifi was all the rage? Those days are dead. I saw a woman uptown last week carrying a bag that looked like a Scottish Terrier and I almost vomited. Well, let’s just say I shook my head in disgust Peter Jensen Horse Purse on Daniel Jenkins’ site. Yeah, it’s cute…for a six year old girl carrying her library books. Honestly, if I ever saw anyone over the age of, let’s say 14, sporting one of these horse purses, I’d think it was a joke. Over the age of 20, then they’re just plain special (and not in a gifted child prodigy kind of way…). Really people, this is almost as bad as those anime kids who insist on wearing cat ears 24/7.

I was looking at one of my fave blogs today, and found this illustrator Sas Christian. Her work very much resembles anime and is very realistic. Although, being very Japanese inspired, it reminded me of something I saw the other day on BuzzFeed; extra wide contact lenses that make you look more anime. Check out the comparison.
