Talbots is trying to reinvent itself, going from Ann Taylor‘s dowdy step sister to a vibrant, modern label for women not in need of support hose. The transformation began with a series of ads featuring supermodel of the world, Linda Evangelista. Now Julianne Moore is taking over, but I almost didn’t recognize her since she was fully clothed and not hysterically weeping.

Those four lovely lines written on a wall at the LOFT summer 2011 preview last night helped me forget about the treacherous New York City winter and took me to a hammock on the sandy shores somewhere between Westhampton and Montauk. The young and glamorous LOFT girl can feel carefree while looking elegant and polished in this collection full of airy knits, bold prints and big, beautiful jewelry. They think that summer dressing should be effortlessly beautiful, and I couldn’t agree more.

And by Tom Cruise I mean Katie Holmes — everyone knows Tom Cruise is a crazy pants who runs his marriage with a black hand. Katie Holmes for Ann Taylor could be a super successful campaign (if Cruise lets Katie out of her cage).

My colleague and hetero life-mate Josh Linam and I stormed Fifth Ave to check out the new digs and also designs from the finalists of CFDA/Vogue’s Fashion Fund Design Challenge. Photos beloooooow.

This ultra-feminine and sophisticated new fragrance, appropriately called Ann Taylor Chic, is a modern mix of violet leaves and verbena top notes; middle notes of lavender blossom, cyclamen petals and white tea; and an irresistible dry-down of liquid honey, musk and white woods. Sounds divine!
