Kloss takes a dip with swimmer – and cover boy – Ryan Lochte, has hoop dreams with Dwayne Wade, gets hurdled by decathlete Ashton Eaton, monkeys around with pint-sized gymnast Jonathan Horton and  juggles some balls with tennis players Bob and Mike Bryan.

Fashion editor Tonne Goodman outfits the model and admitted sports nut  (“you name it, I’ve played it!”) in looks by Victoria Beckham, Atelier Versace, Stella McCartney, Vera Wang, Lanvin, Oscar de la Renta, Haider Ackermann, Bottega Veneta and Alexander McQueen because this is Vogue after all — where tracksuits and cleats are never sensible.

Sorrenti is actually the first Italian to photograph the Pirelli Calendar, whose past lensmen have included Herb Ritts (1994, 1999), Richard Avedon (1995, 1997), Bruce Weber (1998, 2003), Annie Leibovitz (2000), Mario Testino (2001), Peter Lindbergh (1996, 2002), Patrick Demarchelier (2005, 2008), Mert and Marcus (2006), Inez and Vinoodh (2007), Terry Richardson (2010) and last year, Karl Lagerfeld.

For the shoot in Corsica, Sorrenti chose mostly women with whom he had previously worked, including supermodel among supermodels Kate Moss, whom the photographer has known for some 20 years — the two worked together on the iconic Calvin Klein “Obsession” campaign when Sorrenti was just 21 and Moss was practically still in diapers. In the “Making of ” short film that preceded a Q&A with Sorrenti, he remarked that he “couldn’t do this without her.”

Gaga said of her experience, “I walked in and said, ‘Well Tony, here we are’ and I dropped my robe and I got into position. I felt shy and thought, ‘It’s Tony Bennett, why am I naked?’”.  The two know one another from recording The Lady is a Tramp together for Bennett’s Duets II album, and have developed a strong kinship.  Bennett remarked that “there is something special about her” as Gaga praised him saying “he’s so handsome…so charming and such a gentleman”.

This is Kloss’ eighth international Vogue cover, though she has yet to score that grand daddy of covers — American Vogue. However, the S.S. Karlie is blasting into outer-space considering her recent strut down the Victoria’s Secret runway.

And then there’s the guaranteed seal of supermodel approval – the not-at-all-creepy attentions of noted supermodelizer Leonardo DiCaprio.  Come 2012 — mark my words —  Anna Wintour will render her in some disappointing cover story shot by default photogs, Mario Testino or Annie Leibovitz.

From there, next stop: world domination.

Fashion editor Camilla Nickerson outfits Theron in Alexander McQueen, Marchesa, Christoper Kane and Salvatore Ferragamo for the aquatic-themed shoot. I’m assuming the water represents rebirth and all that jazz — considering Theron’s split from  Stuart Townsend and her new film with director Jason Reitman, Young Adult – but Leibovitz comes up dry once again.*

And what’s happening with the underwater shot? Looks like Leibovitz employed the same Photoshopper from those Kardashian Kollection Sears catalogs.

Annie Leibovitz – fresh off a tour in KardashianLand — shot the cover in anticipation of Michelle’s movie, My Week with Marilyn, coming to theaters November 4th. The movie documents the tense relationship between Monroe and co-star Sir Laurence Olivier during the filming of The Prince and the Showgirl. Those two kids did not get along at all, mostly due to Monroe’s boozing, pill-popping and constant lateness, so clearly Anna Wintour heard Oscar’s bells ringing for Michelle this third time around. - And speaking of people selling out for the Kardashians, Vera Wang is selling knock-offs of the wedding dresses she created for the publicity stunt people refer to as Kim Kardashian‘s wedding, to be sold through her David’s Bridal diffusion line. [E!]

- Catherine Malandrino has cancelled her presentation this season, claiming that the brand is “in transition” and “refocusing.” [Page Six]

- Reportedly the only celebrities invited to the  Marc Jacobs runway show are longtime hag Sofia Coppola and campaign gurls, Elle and Dakota Fanning. I guess Tara Reid and I will both be standing outside in the cold this season. As usual. [Fashionista]

- According to his lawyer, John Galliano won’t be in court next week when the verdict in his racist rant case is handed down. [Fashionologie]

- Snooki‘s coming out with a fragrance and being the classy broad she is, she says it will be “flirty and bubbly, you know, like my personality, and obviously something DTF.” (for those out of the Jersey Shore loop, that’s “down to fuck”) So it will smell like a used hot tub, greasy hair extensions and stale lube? Aah, eau du Guidette. [Us]

- André Leon Talley ranks Beyoncé in Emilio Pucci as his best dressed from the Met Gala last night, though he modestly put himself at the lowly position at #12 when in reality he was the only lady to really turn it out on that carpet. [Vogue]

- Livia Firth, wife of this year’s Best Actor Oscar winner Colin Firth, had a meeting in the ladies room at the Met Ball with Stella McCartney, Lauren Hutton, Yoko Ono, Salma Hayek, Rihanna and Hilary Alexander and was gracious enough to tweet pics of it. [Refinery29]

- Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, also known to commoners as Kate Middleton, wore White Gardenia Petals by Illuminum on her special day, thus ensuring that White Gardenia Petals by Illumnum will sell-out in a matter of minutes. [Grazia]

- Joining La Jolie on the Do-Good Express is great-caped crusader André Leon Talley who describes his efforts thusly: “I do make trips to the Dumpster. And I am proud of that because it’s far from my house. But I make a special effort to go to the Dumpster and put the cardboard with the cardboard, and plastic with the plastics.” Mother Teresa who? - Supermodels just can’t keep it in their pants these days. And by it I mean their nuptials. Anja Rubik will be the next catwalker to jump the broom and, in typical model fashion, will wear Pucci when she marries longtime boyfriend Sasha Knezevic in July. [Fashionologie]

- The Black Eyed Peas have finally realized what I’ve been saying for years: “My Humps” is a god awful song. [The Boombox]

- Dior will debut a few dresses from its upcoming couture and/or Spring 2012 collections at the Cannes Film Festival when French actress Melanie Laurent wears the iconic label to the fest’s opening and closing ceremonies. [Elle]

- Grace Coddington‘s 70th birthday was a who’s who of fashion royalty, with a guest list including Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs, Naomi Campbell, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein, Annie Leibovitz,  Helmut Lang, André Leon Talley, Liya Kebede, Karen Elson, Stefano Pilati, Hamish Bowles, Karlie Kloss, Nicolas Ghesquière, Bruce Weber, Patrick Demarchelier, Vera Wang, Edward Enninful, Riccardo Tisci, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez from Proenza Schouler and Laura and Kate Mulleavy from Rodarte. - Another image has “leaked” from Beyoncé‘s video shoot — either B has awful security or we’re just the pawns in her little chess game of pop supremacy…either way I couldn’t care less because she’s wearing Alexander McQueen. [Red Carpet Fashion Awards]

Regardless of the fact that the Wintour’s Bone is more or less alive, I’m almost always disappointed with every American Vogue cover…the last exception being Natalie Portman‘s stunner three issues and an unexpected baby ago. However, the editorials are usually better since they don’t have to sell the entire magazine.

This shoot was photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz who, let’s be honest, has been treading water for the past 10-15 years. Once prolific, her work comes off stale or a bit cartoonish nowadays and Rihanna’s resemblance to Jessica Rabbit certainly doesn’t help matters.

Sure, Rihanna’s a beautiful girl, but instead of playing up that beauty her face is obscured in nearly every picture; by her hair on the cover, or by her head being tilted back, or by that terrible maroon shag wig someone clearly needs to get fired for.

Simply put, this spread could have been a lot better, especially when Rihanna gives fairly good editorial. This is Vogue, for Coddington‘s sakes. The arbiter of all that is good and stylish and unattainable. And these photos don’t even belong in Marie Claire….

This is tiptoeing dangerously into Cosmo territory.

Annie Leibovitz shamefully put her name on these photos from next month’s Vogue. The fact that Anna Wintour let this monstrosity anywhere near those hallowed pages, in Dior no less, proves what I’ve been saying for years: that Anna Wintour’s been dead for the past ten years and staffers have just been dressing up a broom in a bob and giant sunglasses to keep up appearances.

How else can you explain this?

Every August, Vogue’s annual Age Issue comes out, and this year the theme is “Second Acts.” The issue is all about transformation, whether that means a new career, or some other new direction in life. The women featured were photographed by Mario Testiono and Annie Leibovitz and include 26-year-old Alexa Chung, 37-year-old Gwyneth Paltrow, 46-year-old Christina Norman, and 78-year-old Lady Antonia Fraser.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour notes in her Letter from the Editor that transformation is inevitable in a woman’s life, partly because women “invariably inhabit numerous roles at the same time.”

Whether it’s becoming CED of Oprah Winfrey’s new television network (as Norman did), surviving bladder cancer as did 54-year-old Patti Hansen, or dealing with the changes after a husband’s downfall (as Japan’s First Lady Miyuki Hayotama had to), transformation is a chance to come out better for the challenge, regardless of age.

Louis Vuitton is well-known for its creative collaborations. Stephen Sprouse, Annie Leibovitz, Takashi Murakami and David LaChapelle are just a handful of people the fashion house collaborated with.

This time, Louis Vuitton teamed up with illustrator David Huges to create these beautiful mannequins. It’s specially made for the new Louis Vuitton store in London.

The styling is done by Katie Brand. She selected some of louis Vuitton’s most famous and iconic outfits from the archive.

The 15,000 sq ft store is designed to reflect the 21st century mood of London and bring together innovation, heritage and fashion – “all values that are important to Louis Vuitton,” M. Carcelle said.

Confession: my dislike towards LV bags…

I have to confess…I’m not a fan of the Louis Vuitton bags.

In the beginning, I really liked LV, the logo was catching and cute.  But now I see it everywhere. In the streets, in schools, at work etc. Practically every single person has a LV bag. Or at least, more then average. Even normal, non rich, school girls have a LV bag. Now don’t get me wrong, every person deserves to get what he or she wishes. But what’s the point of being different and feeling special when every single person, rich or poor has the same bag as you..?

Another thing why I dislike LV, is that it’s getting popular with the hoochie momma’s. It’s really making the brand look cheap…ridiculously cheap.

When I saw this new LV ad shot by Annie Leibovtiz, I was really surprised to see the French national soccer hero Zinedine Zidane and two other popular soccer players, Diego Maradona and Pelé! I really like the travel theme on the last LV campaign with tennis players Steffi Graf and André Agassi, but I’m not a big fan of this one!

Not quite sure what went wrong here, but Annie Leibovitz or Anna Wintour really fucked up this month. Maybe Vogue couldn’t afford to get all of these actresses to this mountain beach scene at the same time (or at all?) so they thought photoshop would be a good alternative. The results? SO BAD. I’m thinking it was Anna, because Annie scored bigtime on the inside:

However, Annie Leibovitz is known for making composites, but normally they’re pretty believable. Who do you think is the culprit?

I had the opportunity to snag a copy of Dolce & Gabbana’s collaborated photo compilation, Extreme Beauty In Vogue, before it hit’s shelves in October, and I must admit, I feel like a child staring at a picture book, completely mesmerized by every photo. Featuring two centuries of work, the evolution of cultural attitudes on women is exposed in this coffee-table must have. Shove your Beatles anthology to the side folks, because this $55 investment is what your dinner guests should be snooping through!

The latest Core Values ad campaign has hit the web. This time the folks at Louis Vuitton decided to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing by having Annie Leibovitz shoot astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell and Sally Ride.

Shot on the high plateaux of the Californian desert the campaign features a beautiful shot of the moon as the three spacemen/women gaze longingly. Louis Vuitton’s Icare travel bag in Monogram canvas also makes an appearance.

It’s amazing what a little contorted posing and photoshop (I’m assuming) can do for an overweight songbird. Adele is the latest chunk monster to get Voguefied. Annie Leibovitz shot this image of the recent Grammy winner, creating a shape that is a far, far cry for her normal build. Arms stretched, laying on the bed angularly while wearing all black and holding your cheek chunk back while trying to look comfortable is not a shape, it’s a yoga move, but it’s definitely not a shape.

Why can’t Vogue take the route of a soon to be more successful magazine (LOVE) and just shoot the fat girls like their fat? What’s so wrong with showcasing a couple rolls?

To celebrate “Two Decades of Glamour” Badgley Mischka has recruited some of their Hollywood favorites.

Eva Longoria, Carrie Underwood, Brooke Shields, Lauren Hutton and Anjelica Huston will appear alongside the designers in an ad campiagn for Badgley Mischka’s 20th anniversary.

The ad campaign, by Annie Leibovitz, will debut in April magazines.

The Obaminator has been gracing the cover of mags for some time, but now Annie Leibovitz (active supporter of King Kong blacks and putting non-whites on the inside flap of Vanity Fair) gets her chance to shoot some iconic “That’s My President” imagery. The cover isn’t anything special but the shot of him and Michelle walking down Washington is pretty CNN worthy if you ask me.

Annie Leibovitz worked her magic on the already sufficiently magical Cate Blanchett for the February 2009 issue of Vanity Fair.

Lavazza calendars have pretty much set the bar for all other calendars. It’s all about making Lavazza seem like it’s at the epicenter of the coolest of affairs. The 2009 calendar is out and in keeping with Lavazza’s tradition of picking great photographers, it was shot by Annie Leibovitz. The theme for this year was Italy and the passion with which Italians approach life.

Sir Sean Connery, the original James Bond, is the picture of masculine cool as the latest celebrity to be featured in the French luxury giant’s “core values” campaign underlining its travel roots.

Photographed on a beach near his home in the Bahamas, the iconic actor is propped on a wooden dock next to a waterproof version of Vuitton’s Keepall bag. The photo Annie Leibovitz submitted was actually a test, before he was handed over to the hair and makeup crews, Bernard Arnault said. “In this case, we had the opportunity to work with a legend,” he added. “He’s been on our list for a very long time.”

Arriving just in time for the November release of “Quantum of Solace,” the latest Bond film starring Daniel Craig, Vuitton’s Connery images are slated to run for roughly a year, in tandem with other personalities from the series, including Keith Richards and the duo of Francis Ford Coppola and his directing daughter, Sofia.

In my opinion, Leibovitz career has been tarnished by her brazen attempt to objectify African-Americans as wild, King Kong-ish beasts, but photos from her over 14 years at Vanity Fair suggest that maybe the lack of love for brownies started a long, long time ago. Check out the photos below from some of Vanity Fair’s most famous Leibovitz cover shots. The first panel is the front page which is what the buying public sees. The second and third panel are usually tucked away from the viewers eye. It’s called the Annie Leibovitz Black Bump and it’s the perfect way to include a darker skinned person in a photoshoot (allowing Annie and Vanity Fair to maintain their “We Love Black People” stance) without giving them prime real estate on the front cover.

By now everyone and their grandmother has seen this non-controverisal, controversial Miley Cyrus photo, photographed by that smut-peddler Annie Leibovitz. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a ‘real’ Inqusition post, but this incident has pulled me out of hibernation.

I couldn’t help but become irate that while watching my half-an-hour of real news, from 6:30-7, all they seemed to talk about was this photo. And then it went to the hour of entertainment shows, and it was all about the photos. And then the news at 10 and 11, and so on and so on.

Am I the only person seeing someone’s semi-emaciated back? I kept thinking a boob had popped out and I had just not noticed. But no. At a time when you can see Miley with her day-glow bra exposed all over the internet, that photo is controversial? If there was going to be a semi-nude photo of me on the internet I would rather it be taken by Annie Lebowitz any day.

And another thing, what’s the deal with blaming Annie Leibovitz? Is that really fooling anyone? From the press I’ve heard, you would have thought it was Terry Richardson taking the photo!

Does she realize that Leibovitz shots every other photoshoot that appears in magazines? In a few years when Cyrus will inevitably shot one those obligatory GAP Icons ads-who do you think is going to shoot it? Let’s just hope she doesn’t piss off Inez and Vindooh.

Why is this photo such a big deal? Because Miley does not own herself, no she is the property of The Walt Disney Corporation. She is their commodity and that commodity is innocence. And they are going to hold onto that till she marries her elementary sweetheart in Vegas for 52 hours and effectively loses all her fanbase with increasingly erratic behavior. It’s the tried and true Britney formula. And another thing she isn’t the first celebrity to mix her youth and innocence with risqué, suggestive photos.

The truth is, this is such a none story. I don’t mind Billy Bush talking about this photo with the same gravity as if it’s the war in Iraq, because that’s his job-to talk about nothing as if it’s something. But when Charlie Gibson starts speaking about the scandal like it’s Iraq, we’ve got problems. So CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and FOX NEWS back off of the Miley Cyrus photo-semi-nude-back-gate and leave it to the professionals-us bloggers. Who else has nothing better to do than take an hour out of day to write about Miley Cyrus? Now if you don’t mind I’m going to watch me some CNN. And Miley, if you think that photos is embarrassing at least you haven’t posed for an American Apparel ad yet!
