Charlie May is a London girl about the world. A fashion design student with a desire to reveal emerging talent to the world, she started her blog Girl a al Mode back in 2008 to do just that. We caught up with Charlie about what to do and where to shop when we’re on her turf, and she gave us an indie gold mine for fashion scoping in London.

In its third season to date, the Spring 2012 Brood collection is simply mesmerizing. Showcased the basement of a Chelsea art gallery, designer Serkan Sarier presented 12 ethereal looks on models surrounding a partially deflated metallic silver hot air balloon, an art installation portraying the reflective lights and shadows his pieces were designed around.

I have been observing the evolution of Haider Ackermann for several seasons, as he is one of my favorite new designers when it comes to womens’ clothing. In my humble opinion, his last two seasons in Paris outclassed all of the other Designers’ Women Collections by a long shot.

The graduation show of the Antwerp Academy fourth year students and smaller catwalk collections from all the years’ students is running every night for three nights to a packed audience of over 800 people. It’s like a fashion circus, with each designer or act followed by another in quick succession. The talent level is high but it would have been hard for early students like Dries Van Noten and Anne Demulemeester to imagine it growing so big when they pioneered this small college course years ago.
