It really is the little things in life that make the days pass. The changing colors of the fall leaves, a lady in high heeled rain boots taking a slippery tumble and crushing her umbrella, you know the standard moments of beauty we all look out for day to day. So here’s a big thank you to APC for making their little things really count, and if anyone asks why- fuck ‘em!

SHOP: The SartoriaLUST Pop-Up At Barneys On Madison Ave.

Picture 7

One of our favorite street photographers Scott Schuman, better known at the Sartorialist, has organized his own pop-up at Barneys! Full of lust-worthy items, Schuman displays his luxurious taste at the ‘SartoriaLUST,’ which includes pieces from Maison Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten, APC, and Ralph Lauren, among others.  Prices are high, but isn’t that the point of lust-worthy?

THE INNER-VIEWS OF FASHION: Mitra Khayyam Of Blood Is The New Black

Sadly, the ‘RIP YSL’ shirts by Brian Lichtenberg are out of print, but I’ve been in love with them ever since I first spied them in some band’s photoshoot.  I discovered they were first sold on Blood Is The New Black, and after going to their site found out they feature a ton of awesome designers.  I had a chance to chat via email with owner Mitra Khayyam to find out what BITNB is all about:

Fashion Indie: How did you start Blood Is The New Black?

Mitra Khayyam: The concept for blood is the new black came from my thesis paper from Parsons. After college I had many jobs, and after being a disgruntled employee, I decided that I wanted to start my own company and be my own boss. And with that I pulled out my thesis paper and decided that I could actually start an artist based t-shirt company. We were lucky, Keren Richter had already been approached by Urban Outfitters to design tees for them, but they wanted to pay her just a tiny fraction of what the tees would sell for. Instead we ended up selling them Blood is the New Black x Keren Richter shirts. Win-win!

FI: What do you look for in the designers you feature?

MK: I love art that can evoke all sorts of emotions. I love to collaborate with different types of artists, because each one can add a different mood to the collection. Generally I love irreverence and humor so if an artist can make me smile it goes a long way. But I also feel a connection with ones that make me question everything and anything and hit me deep. I guess it depends from day to day.

FI: Who is a designer you’d really like to collaborate with?

MK: I think Brooklyn based designer Maya Hayuk is amazing, as is Aurel Schmidt

FI: Are you a designer yourself?

MK: I am not a designer but I greatly appreciate the aesthetics abilities of people around me. Due to my lack of art skills I love finding new artists and introducing people to them.

FI: Where do you hope to take your company next?

MK: Blood is the new black is a company that introduces our customers to new artists; I want to be able to expand this knowledge online and well as on print. I can see Blood is the New Black as a way for people to read about new art, find out what is up and coming and own a piece of that work.

FI: Any advice for other artists/designers out there hoping to ‘make it’?

MK: It will take some sweat, hard work, and determination to make it. You have to believe in your product. You also have to surround yourself with people who believe in your vision as well. Don’t think you’re going to make it overnight, or that you can coast off any success. Always try to take it to next level. And love every minute of it.

FI: If you had $1000 to blow on a shopping spree, what designers would you buy from?

MK: APC and Alexander Wang. With a few of my own t-shirt blanks thrown in for good measure.

Check out Blood is the New Blacks site for more info on which designers they feature, and to shop online.  Follow them on twitter for a 25%  EXCLUSIVE discount to followers until July 9th!

Maiden Noir: Spring 2009 Collection menswear designers

Maiden Noir is proving that simple is sometimes best. The latest Spring collection has a great mix of colors and patterns placed on very traditional, every day pieces. The collection has me thinking a bit about A.P.C., but then again it could look like a ton of other brands as well.

A.P.C: Spring 2009 Collection menswear designers

A.P.C. is spreading the word about their new Spring 2009 collection that is due in stores next Thursday, January 22. The collection reminds me of a refined indie-rock look. The collection features Wafarer-esque sunglasses pair with cardigans, slim suits and a more fitted slim pant. The pieces are great for someone who is looking to put and edgy feel on a nicer look. I could see myself in everything A.P.C. has to offer this upcoming Spring. I would even wear the khakis, despite the fact that they bring back the horrible thoughts of my mother making me wear khakis to church and the country club when I was growing up, it was awful!

Random (NOT!) Cool Shit: A.P.C Olive Oil emerging fashion

I don’t know who came up with this idea, but what the hell. I feel like I’m wasting my money when I buy some stupid designer hair product, but I am not dumb enough to buy this crap. If I cared that much about what olive oil I was using I would go to the grocery store and buy the best one they had. This is like going to Compton to figure out who the next big country music sensation is. Unless there is some new cool cosmetic use for olive oil that would cause A.P.C to do this I am deeming this the dumbest collaboration (?) ever. Combine this with David Beckham’s fish sticks, and Ivanka Trumps new microwavable meals and you have the most fashionably pathetic heart attack.

*Please note, this is in no way related to the fact that I hate food. I was recently accused of being anorexic by a reader, and I want to clear it up that due to the economic climate I can’t afford food so LAY OFF!

Thanks to Selectism.

Oh no APC, wide of the mark on this one. Unfortunately for APC this line is less than impressive. If you ask me this is just a slightly glorified version of a Gap line. The ugly Ugg-like boots and the lack of patterns just don’t do it for me. What’s with the creepy model too? Hopefully APC learns from their mistakes. Sorry!

Thaks Hypebeast for the images.

The A.P.C. Fall/Winter 08/09 collection has been released. Lookbooks have been arriving at homes across the board for all to snatch a glimpse. The line features a laid-back approach to style at its best. After all, isn’t it best when intricate style adapts so well to the individual that it looks completely effortless? The extensive collection is composed of straight-legged pants, jackets, shirts, hats, bags and even scarves. Each look is put together with the perfect touch; simple outfits with a fur lined jacket, or the perfect hat to complete the well-said statement. Whatever the outfit, all are created with a swift take on a fashionable presentation.
