3. Cheap Monday- Tons of crazy prints and colored washes. Made in Sweden.

4. Replay-Great skinny and ‘boyfriend’ style, in a bunch of interesting washes. Made in Italy.

5. Acne- A ton of variety in mens’ fits, and repeat winner of ‘Designer of the Year’ by Swedish Elle.  Made in Sweden.

6. K(T)subi- Formerly Tsubi, currently Ksubi, this brand invented themselves based on fit, and has continued to outfit surfers in super, super jeans ever since. Made in Australia.

7. Nudie- Made from the best Italian, Turkish, American, and Japanese qualities using the best techniques. Made in Italy, with the only con being they don’t have a women’s line (yet?).

8. Diesel- I know people that swear by Diesel, mostly skinny guys who can never find sizes small enough for their 26 inch waists and still long enough for their 6’0 tall frames.  Diesel has always been known for their high-quality and long lasting denim. I may be impartial because I love everything Diesel makes, not just their jeans. Made in Italy.

9. Levis- After coming out with the 510 and 511, Levis seemed to have redeemed themselves as every hipster and musician’s best friend. Made in the US!

10. G Star- ‘Raw’ denim. Prides themselves in being about nothing more than the product itself, keeping it fashionable and well-fit. Made in the Netherlands.

It looks to me like the coolest party in town, second to Fashion Indie’s “For The Love of Marc” shindig, of course, was clothing and record label, April 77‘s,  party at The Jane Hotel. With an appearance by the ever amazing Kate Lanphear, style director at Elle, and Fashion Indie’s own Desarae McCaffrey (that’s her, above right!)  landing a spot on Refinery 29, I’d say the bash, in all its fashionable downtown glory, was a total success! Wish I could have made it!

April 77 is one brand that definitely hasn’t lost focus of their roots, as they started off as a record label back in the day. The “Records” collection focuses on just that too, the music. The collection is inspired by the different cult music followers known across the land. You could be the most expensive looking Kurt Cobain out there.

Holy wow! April 77 is blowing every other collection for Fall 2009 out of the water right now. The Americano themed collection first knocked me off my feet during last season’s (Capsule) trade show, and now seeing it again on models has me drooling on my keyboard. If anyone over at April 77 is reading this, I would love to be sponsored by your for the entire year, and as a result I promise to wear only April 77 everyday for the year. The collection is insane! I love the old native american looking prints on the capes and scarves, and the fringed look is huge!

Want to get a jump start on your Spring shopping? April 77 launched their Spring 2009 collection into stores this week. I am a huge supporter of this amazing brand, I really do love everything they produce. I really love this collection, and  I am going to be buying some of this gear for sure. Pricey? Maybe, but that’s not stopping me.

Now I don’t agree with the not wearing leather thing because it is my favorite thing to wear, but I will say I have to support these new boots from YMC and April 77, mostly because they are two of my favorite brands. These great looking new boots are 100% synthetic suede, and have a leather substitute for a sole as well. Who would have thought a faux leather boot could look so good? Don’t quote me on that PETA!

I popped into New York for a quick minute over the weekend so that I could attend my second season of (Capsule), which has quickly trumped New York Fashion Week as my favorite event of the year. With some amazing designers like Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Denim & Thread, Buckler, Chronicles of Never and April 77, (Capsule) provides buyers and writers the amazing opportunity to see what the hippest designers have planned for the upcoming season. This season featured some of my favorite designers in the industry, and I will be featuring them all week as the pictures roll in from their press offices. 

Chronicles of Never Shoes

I was lucky enough to meet and talk to some amazing people and designers from labels like Wrath Arcane, Velour, Naked & Famous, Lova and S2VS. Another season another great success. I can’t wait to see these collections on the shelves in 2009/2010.

It was raining yesterday, so I decided to shop from my couch rather then break out my umbrella and trek through the rain. While I was surfing the web (haha), I came across these really cool April 77 jeans at Revolve Clothing. The jeans are a slim fit black jean covered in subtle polka dots. We’ve seen plaid pants, colored jeans, and all different types of washes, but I’m willing to change it up and go polka dots. The thing I like most about the polka dots is that it is an easy way to break up monotone coloring. I would love to see these with a solid black shirt or jacket. I’m saving my pennies now, and I can promise you I will have these jeans soon enough. If you’re looking to beat me to the punch (and possibly make me jealous), head over to Revolve and order away. For $186 dollars you can wow your trendy friends!

April 77 has released their Spring 2009 look book, and the former record label has done it again. I have always loved their denim, and every year the denim stays consistently good while the rest of the collection gets better. The tees and button up shirts look great this year. This is definitely a collections to get excited about.

April 77 is gearing up to launch their Fall/Winter gear, and I would say this is what I expected. Their always quality line of denim is a must have for the denim cravers of the world, while their tops are basic and reminiscent of their record label days.

April 77 is really an anomaly of sorts. It’s a clothing brand and music label, which interestingly enough, produces really cool clothes and houses some listen-worthy independent artists. Straight outta Paris, April 77 evokes the spirit of old-school rock and roll in an East Village sort of way, with a touch of European chicness. What you’ll find is a definitive collection of emaciated jeans, all of which are named after a rock legend, and a plethora of music-inspired pieces which for some reason makes me think of David Bowie during his androgynous reign. Maybe it’s the unisex display of pointy-toe loafers, and semi fitted suit jackets found in both the men and women’s collection. “Our clothing is music and music lives in our clothing”, is the overall message according to the brand.

As for April 77 Records, whose motto is “Dance Tonight, Revolution Tommorrow”, one can easily find some obscure bands to brag about. From the indie rock punk band, Red Hearts from L.A., to the psychedelic glam-rock trio, Niels Children from England, the sound is eclectic and progressive. Despite the superfluous usage of nonsensical quotes, I’m impressed. Who knew great clothes and cool music could be achieved on the same plane?

The line between fashion and music get blurred a little bit more this month as French jeanswear label April 77 introduces April 77 Records, a collaboration between fresh bands and the clothing company. Each month, April 77 jeans and merchandise will feature special codes which can be used to redeem free music on their site from some of the world’s best up and coming bands.  This month, THE RED HEARTS…

THE RED HEARTS are a household name in the Los Angeles indie rock and punk scene. They are lead by Lenny Pops, who formed the band in 2004 after having played in the Brian Jonestown Massacre. The guys have shared the stage with cult icons such as Silver Apples, The Avengers, as well as playing with many of todays top bands including Black Lips and Lords of Altamont.

I first saw Lenny on New Years Eve of 2007. With his jangling Rickenbacker, striped shirt and curls, he stood apart from his garage rockin mates. This boy was pop-incarnated. As I danced my ass off I couldnt help but wonder what his story was. Where did this guy come from? Obviously not Lala, the land of garage psychedelia.

And so it goes, his name is Lenny Pops, hes from Detroit and spent a chunk of his youth in Atlantic City, which explains his intense fondness for Lucy the Elephant (The Amusement Park). His beating red heart is shared by Punk and Powerpop and, of course, his lovely wife.

When he started THE RED HEARTS, their first single – More and Faster – manifested itself as a proper punk anthem best described as raw. But I thought they were a Powerpop band… At least thats what their MySpace said!

Being the snot nosed, MySpacin’, Powerpop victim that I am, I was immediately up Mr. Pops ass about this. Are THE RED HEARTS a pop band or not? Four drummers later, and then there was light!

Their next single, Let’s Get Lost – out as APRIL77RECORDS first release in April – is a fucking gem. A perfect balance of everything we love. Gary Valentine meets Elvis Costello on Adderall with a Farfisa! Punk, Powerpop, whatchamacallit, its a mover!
