Art Basel has come and gone and so have my dreams of Hirst and Murakami inspired bacchanal revelry. I was motivated enough to start my art collection, but then I checked my bank balance and realized Cafe Americanos and taxis really do add up after a while. The plus side? A segment of the art industry is paying attention to tomorrow’s buyers, and it’s getting easier to become a collector at a lower price point. Here’s how.

Celebrating its 10^th birthday this year, the festivities at Art Basel Miami almost outshined the actual artwork. With 18 other local art fairs simultaneously going on around town, over 260 galleries showing the works of over 2000 artists and 50,000 creative enthusiasts from around the world, South Beach and downtown Miami’s Design District were the country’s creative mecca this first week of December. Our week was jam packed, with back to back versions of “the most fun party ever”, sandwiched between “the best art exhibit ever” Here’s a rundown of our favorite events:

The Fashion Guide to Miami Art Basel 2011

It’s that time of year when fashionable snowbirds fly south for annual art extravaganza Miami Art Basel. With hundreds of events to choose from, it’s sort of like rummaging through fashion week invites. But we’ve done the searching for you and compiled the most sizzling art and fashion fusion events to heat up your winter.

The Vogue Lounge

Thursday Dec. 1 and Friday Dec. 2, Noon – 7pm

Sagamore Hotel, 1671 Collins Ave

A two-day shopping event with Vogue featuring art and fashion collaborations from Keds x Opening Ceremony, Bond No. 9, Dee & Ricky and Lexus. Lexus will host a fashion workshop on the transformation of luxury auto parts recycled into fashion accessories. Since you’re in Miami, grab some beach accessories from the 2012 Artist Towel Series, designed by Barbara Kruger and Rirkrit Tiravanija.

Art Chic: Cartier’s New Show Space

Cartier is a classy bunch. Yes, they make insanely cool watches. But they also rep a strong commitment to the art world – their new Art Basel show space says just as much.

The Art Basel show space was designed by Japanese filmmaker and TV presenter Beat Takeshi Kitano. He also doubles as a comic and TV celebrity.

Excellent move, Cartier! This is the perfect space for showcasing cool contemporary art.

Mark Ronson for Gucci Sneakers

The Gucci sneakers by Mark Ronson will be available at the first Gucci flash sneaker shop in NYC (Crosby St) on Oct 23, the other stop will included Art Basel Miami, London, Berlin, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
