RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Konstantina Mittas Spring 2010

57309632G’day mates! As you know, the Australian fashion week is well underway and from the depths of the outback have emerged some really great indie designers. Konstantina Mittas really caught my eye for her awesome structural pieces and bold use of color. A lot of indie designers have a bit of trouble with cohesion in their collections, but Mittas hit the nail on the head, her array of yellows and golds evident throughout and a confident attitude that practically screams “Yeah, I’m wearing neon drop-crotch pants. You got a problem with that?” The makeup is equally as awesome, the gold foil disk giving off a superhero vibe that compliments to the confidence nicely. Overall, a very solid collection by an up and coming designer.

Is that a low-fat juice box?

WWD is reporting that “Australian Fashion Week organizer IMG Fashion Asia Pacific said Friday that it will ban models who are under 16 years old.”

We’ve been going back and forth on the age/size model discrepancies for some time and we are uber happy that this ban is in place. Firstly, it is completely wrong to have women set a standard of excellence based on chicks that haven’t hit puberty yet. Secondly, it puts extreme pressure on girls who are too young to realize that sticking a finger down your throat to stay thin is not okay.

Bravo to Australia for kicking them young’uns to the curve. We hope that everyone else follows suit and enlists some size requirements pronto.
